Is there a phantom midseason draft anywhere?
We don't exactly have a draft order, so it's tricky for anyone to do a phantom, and we don’t know who has nominated yet either as nominations close on the 25th. So I don't know of any phantoms, unless draft central has some stuff on their site (eDPS would probably know).

We do have a thread in the draft board where knowledgeable people tell nuffies about various prospects, so you could skim through that a bit and quiz dps about it;

I think I’m firming on Bailey Lambert as a small marking fwd from Frankston. Zippy and tricky, he has a few avenues to kick goals and kick them quickly.

Incredibly well mannered kid who is a likeable character. At 183cm he’s a small fwd but can take a decent Mark too whilst he was a natural midfielder growing up.

I really like him and someone we could use

Pass. Waterman is the same player but better imo.

Common sense. It’s quite good.

Nathan Freeman makes good reading.
Josh Green... not sure if we’re allowed to bid on him though. I guess GWS would be allowed to match.
Callow sounds good.
Why would we have to bid on Green if he nominated for the mid-season draft?

Um... because he’s 191cm and is being projected as an inside mid? I’m not sure I understand what you mean..
If he nominates for MSD, GWS can't match

It would be insane for anyone who is chance to get drafted to wait until the national draft. Injury or form slump could be right around the corner and you’ve missed your chance.

Has not worked out well for a few that have been picked. In fact it has pretty much been the mature aged players that have claimed their spot on the lists.

It’s about job security isn’t it, in terms of contract length and financial terms and conditions?

Says more about the quality of the kids taken. If they had shown more upside while on the list I’m sure they would have been held onto.

30% of the players taken still on a list is pretty good for a rookie draft. Dunkley the unlucky one but taken by a team with a glut of inside mids which can happen in any draft.

Would be a large part of it. For mine it’s about opportunity, maybe Edwards can take the risk but the rest who might be flavour of month might never get another chance if they let one slip now.

The other risk is jumping into the mid season without a AFL pre season. You could just as easily not be at the level and get delisted which may be a bigger kiss of death than waiting and not getting picked. There are arguments both ways but if you nominate you had better be ready to go.

Heath, Edwards and Noyle? are all projects they will need 3-4 seasons to get ready going midseason is a huge ****ing risk

You’d hope the clubs had the maturity to understand that benchmarks would have to be modified. I think they did, as 10 of 13 got a second season. Deluca was the strange one, got 6 games and no second season.
