09' - Scully, Trengove, Martin, Fyfe will be as good a top 4 as any draft ever has produced.

Firstly you add Ziebell, Sidebottom, Davis, Trengove, Hartlett, Vickery, Banfield, Ballantyne, McKernan, Hannebery, Robinson and Sloane to 08 as well as guys who have just started to show some good signs after injury or otherwise in Strauss, Blease, Brown, Cordy, Wright, Roughead, L. Jones, Savage, etc....

And then you think why the **** is there even a poll?

Hurley and Naitanui makes the 08 draft the best.
If these 2 where in the 09 draft, the 09 draft would be the best, if they were in the 2010 draft the 2010 draft would be the best.

Stupid statement, considering without those two players the 08 draft would still have the greatest depth of talent.

take out Hurley and Naitanui and put them in the 09 draft and it destroys the 08 one. can't do 10 yet as it need a year or 2 to see other players come along.
So yes Hurley and Naitanui swing me from the 09 back to the 08 draft

This is a dumb comment. You could do the opposite by adding Martin and Fyfe into both 08/10 and it would then be the best.

08 is a lot better than 09. Top end talent is similar but 08 just produced quality. All three draft groups need more time.

Why throw in guys like Lucas, Colyer for 09 and exclude Rockliff, Johnston, Smith, Suban.

09 is far, far weaker than the other two.

In the lists provided in the OP also the quality drops away after the top 4. 08' at this stage, '10 will probably win overall.

I would still take the 08 draft.

08 easily for me. Rich and Hannebury won the rising star and Shuey almost won it this year. The second and third rounds have a lot of quality players that were ready to play in their first year whereas the others don't. AFL changed the age that you can be drafted (I think) so 09 always had a smaller chance of being as strong. I doubt 2010 will be remembered as a strong draft because quite a few top players were taken by GC. If GWS doesn't offer 4 picks in the mini draft this year we will have to wait till 2014 for a draft where the top kids aren't taken out.

Generally it's the third year that players really step up and make their mark on the competition. No suprise people rate 08 as the best so far. I'd take 09. Can't wait to see what Martin and Fyfe do in their third years. Expecting very big things from those two next year. AA not beyond them.

/poll.

Menzel, Christensen, Vardy, Duncan and Cowan all played senior footy at Geelong in 2011 and injury cruelled Vardy and Menzel late in the year.

All this group were drafted in 2009.

We cannot complain considering we never see a pick lower than #17 generally.:thumbsu:

Could be a modern version of our '99 or 2001 crop again i think!

Very good drafting by the Cats, but these players definetely perform better due to the likes of Bartel, Ottens, Kelly and Selwood around them. It'd be naive to claim that they've had a comparable start to those two magnificent crops from 99 and 2001.
