I thought I'd start a thread where people can vent their anger over driving incidents on the road.

I will start it off. I was driving in the left lane of a three lane road today when there was a parked car up ahead. I was at least 3/4 of a car legth ahead of the car in the middle lane and I put my blinker on to indicate that I want to merge into the middle lane. I gave a plenty of time for the car in the middle lane to allow me to merge but they chose to ignore me. When it became clear that the car was not going to let me in it was to late for me to apply the brakes to avoid crashing into the parked car so I forced my way into the middle lane. It just annoys me that some people want to play funny buggers on the road and don't allow others to merge.

Not a particular instance but it annoys me that most people don't know how to use roundabouts properly. A lot of people will stop and wait even if there is nothing coming. It gets on my nerves enormously. I wonder how these people would go handling this roundabout in England:

I hate it when people try and merge at half the speed limit, or turn onto the street in front of you and don't accelerate forcing you to slow down.

SolidTiger - I can see your point but you have to give way to the traffic already in the lane. Still, he didn't need to be stupid about it.

Taxi drivers - end of thread. Stop where they want, deliberately push in, don't indicate........and it goes on.

Drivers who know the left lane ends ahead (so you have to merge) and decide to use it to thier advantage and push thier way in.

People who never indicate - it is a simple rule of courtesy more than anything.

And people who never acknowledge you when you let them in. I always do it, but so many don't. It is just rude - the road is there to share

I'll tell you who pisses me off.
Most p platers in 6 cylinder vn/vr commodores with cut springs, fully sick chrome wheels, "sports exhausts that sound like a crappy boat, seat layed back so the driver is looking out the back side window, cap on backwards, some rap shit playing on the loudest and shitest sounding stereo that rattles the panels loose.
____sticks of the highest order!

Drivers who don't pay attention to "give way to oncoming traffic". Happened to me the other day. Very lucky that the crash happened at about 30 km/h and the other driver has to pay for everything. The irony is that he's a driving instructor.

The ones that annoy me the most are the drivers who deliberately break the law and put other drivers at risk by their dangerous actions.

Some of the worst things I have seen are drivers who drive on the wrong side of the road to overtake multiple vehicles - I once saw a car drive on the wrong side of the road at considerably above the speed limit to overtake about 10 cars waiting at a pedestrian crossing, and then continue speeding right through the crossing forcing the person who was using the crossing to jump out of the way to avoid being hit.

I have also seen cars deliberatly drive through red lights, railway crossings with the boom gates down and lights flashing, and cars swerving between lanes of traffic at speed like they were at Mount Panorama and not on the Monash or Western Ring Road.

A couple of years ago I let a guy come out from a side street and allowed him to cut in front of me and he gave me the big thumbs up and had a cheeky smile and I thought that's nice, until I realised it was Nathan Buckley and then I got some road rage happening! ;)

Ask Rocket 23 about bad drivers: he had his new car 15 minutes last week when I guy rammed him up the clacker on the South Eastern and drove off!

On my way to work I drive past a primary school which has 100s of parents drop their kids off on a main road. There is about 30m from a side street to the lights they have put in.

More often than not when there is a red light ahead, I will pull up short (leaving a 30-40m gap) to allow cars which wish to turn right from the side street to come ahead - as the only chance they have to get out is from when the lights turn green the other way until the traffic covers the 35-40m (about 6-10 seconds).

Due to it being a side-street, and parked cars, etc, I've seen upwards of 20 cars (wanting to turn left) held up by 2-3 cars wanting to turn right.

For the sake of a 10 second delay in my trip, I can save upwards of 10 minutes for ALL those people.

Yet invariably if I pull up I get an idiot behind me flashing lights, beeping horn, etc. The other day I even had one drive over the kerb and into the busstop seating area to get to the red light 30m ahead.

People are incredibly inconsiderate. Of course the fact I'm in a work car (with my name/# brandished all over it probably contributes to my courteous nature.

A few years ago there was a big T intersection where everyone had to pass through to get to a town to go to work, everyone had to turn right and therefore they had to give way to the cars going from left to right and right to left. Consquently, the waiting line used to get quite long at the time when people were going to work, so about 7:30 - 8:30. One time i was in the line and all of a sudden this car comes up on the left, which is the side of the road, knocking down these side reflection mirrors ( i think they were the ones that go down when you hit them) to avoid the crew. I can only imagine it was an emergency or the guy was seriously late for work, or very impatient.

I had someone do that last year, they swerved to avoid a car who pulled out of a side street despite the fact there were cars in both lanes and he hit me, then drove off seemingly unaware that he had hit me and was more worried with the car he missed. Didnt get their rego and had to foot the bill :thumbsd:

Agree with others about people who dont indicate

Another I had today a woman was turning right out of a side street, she looked to the left as thats the lane she was turning into and saw it was clear and moved out with me coming through on her right, luckily i knew she hadnt looked and slowed down then had to swerve to the other lane to avoid her when she realised her mistake when she was already halfway out and braked. But to turn right and not even check in one direction untill moving is unbelievable

I spend alot of time on the roads and see alot of stupid things and agree with all points so far in this thread

As for roundabouts, bloody infuriating indeed, there is one roundabout where constantly cars will be in such a hurry they pull out just as you are about passing where they are stopped, one day I pulled out in front of someone who hadnt indicated so assumed they were going straight and then they turned, honked and flashed me as if they had done nothing wrong

Roundabouts shit me no end. Visor-wearing trophy wives in their massive BMWs seem to be the main offenders. They just zoom through like they're the only ones on the road.

Was driving along the other day when out of nowhere this brand new BMW pulls out of a driveway. I was doing ~50 at the time, and I managed to stop no more than a metre or two behind it.

Anyway, I slam the horn and start yelling profanities (as you do). I had no idea who was driving the car until I looked into its rear vision mirror and saw an 80-something trophy wife, obviously on her last legs, just sitting there pursing her lips like nothing had happened.

I don't think I've ever been angrier.

These P platers who think they own the world and can take up the whole road and hoon up and down streets.

Should carry a BB gun to shoot the tyres, give a good scare.

keep moving you morons and stop slowing traffic down for no reason other than looking at a dented car on the other side.

Agree! So many times, a breakdown or something that is not that exciting.......everyone stops to look at it........and that is what causes the traffic. Is it not that interesting you idiots - keep moving!!!!!!!!!

What annoys me are people that yell abuse at other drivers because they made a mistake. Just a simple beep and that would be fine. Have a little respect on the road.

Can anyone explain to me the method for turning right across tram tracks in the Melbourne CBD? I believe it's called a hook turn?

Why go out to the left to turn right? Why not stay in the right lane that allows you to just cross the tram tracks rather then the tram tracks AND another lane of traffic? Seems ridiculous.

It stops cars getting in the way of tram tracks and out of the way of through traffic and they just wait for the lights to change and go through

Drivers who change lanes through an intersection and only use their indicate for a couple of seconds....ah you're not supposed to do that!

Seems very inefficient. So you can essentially only get 1 car turning right each set of lights?

Almost invariably more cars will want to continue straight ahead as opposed to turning right.

By moving forward and waiting for oncoming traffic to pass you would be either blocking a tram or holding up traffic behind you wanting to continue straight ahead.

By moving to the left all traffic can continue straight ahead as can any tram. Once the lights turn red, you simply turn right.
