Wouldnt mind a bit of discussion on Zaharakis, J.Kennedy and R.Gray as forwards. They all just about have the requirements to have a breakout season and the potential to be that 6th or 7th forward.

All 3 are quality players, obviousily Gray has a bit of durability problems but probably more upside than the other 2.

All 3 boast as unique picks that could sepearate you from the field if you happen to hit the correct one and them become a keeper. I would almsot be happy to say that one of these 3 will avg keeper numbers next year, which one i dont know??

Two under the radar that no one seems to be talking about:

Bargain forawards ->

Cam Richardson (Nth)

Marlon Motlop (Pt)

One? or Both? or Neither?

Best of luck to all this season :thumbsu:

Gray I don't trust. Almost picked him last year but so glad I didn't. Can see Port bottom four this year so won't be touching him.

Kennedy I like as a player but not often a key position forward gets good numbers in a shit side. Jack Riewoldt won the Coleman last year, but still barely averaged enough to be a keeper.

Zaharakis I like, and he's been in and out of my team. In my opinion the one most likely to get to an 85 average, but there's been some word of him 'managing' an injury of some sort (groin?) which is turning me off him.

More Z's and less X's this year, i heard that was a rule!!

I think Gray is such a better player than a 68 avg, his team may finish bottom 6 or 4 but that still means he can avg 85 (keeper number). The thing to look for or research is his fitness, havnt heard bad things with injury yet this preseason for him.

How many CHF's have been in bottom four teams with any decency though. Essendon, Richmond, Port couldnt have one if it him them in the face. Also look at Brown last year, he was bottom four and avg well. Yeah he is a gun but i think Kennedy will be one day aswell. He is more your Riewoldt, gumbleton type player who will lead and burn ppl with endurance and ability to keep going.

Also another that is worth talking about is Porpus. Midfield time and injury free, we know he is class. avg 68 only and underpriced - very capable of keeper numbers.

These guys are NOT under the radar at all. What do you want us to say?

Apparenly had a big and injury free pre-season, he's in my team. He seems a very good price, I think he can avg 95ish if he doesn't break down, which is what I'm banking on.

Yeah his price has tempted me. He's been in and out of my team but hearing that he is having a good preseason, I think he'll be coming back in.

I've persisted with him for the past 3 seasons which have been frustrating - I haven't completely ruled him out but I just can't bring myself to take a risk on him. Worst case scenario he might be a trade target in the second part of the year.

this guy burnt me bad last season, he is off my radar

ANGUS Monfries is set to become the latest small forward to make the move to the midfield.

Priced at $292,400 Forward only

Was a under age midfield gun could be a bargain buy if he cracks out some big numbers playing mid/forw for Essendon.

past years dt numbers
2005 - avg 44
2006 - 67
2007 - 67
2008 - 74
2009 - ???
2010 - 70.4

so a avg of really 70 for someone who don't normally get much midfield time could say avg maybe 90 ? extra 20pts for going in there n get few more touches.

Thoughts ??

Zaharakis has an added bonus - FWD/MID

...and Monty likes Z players this year

Get on board!

Doing a similar thing with Andrew Strijk, a clearence god in the WAFL who is strong overhead and can kick a goal. His biggest hurdle has been endurance.

He's dominated the high intensity running drills at Westcoast.:thumbsu:

Browny is looking good for the price i think. Clark is more than capable of kicking a bag, so will draw a good defender. The lions byes are well spread in the year and should see big JB get a rest when needed. Hasn't been pushing himself to much in pre season like last year, club aiming to have him right to go round 1 this year, instead of the pre season comp.

Really? I'm sure I have heard somewhere that Brown has had an injury interrupted pre-season.

I'd like to discuss Leon Davis.

Yes I realise everyone who had him last year was burnt badly paying premium price for him coming off the back of his 2009 average of 99.

My question is, with the new sub rule and the drafting of Krakouer, can Leon reinvent himself as a defender/mid in 2011? He is clearly thought of highly enough by the Pies coaching staff to be in the Pies best 21, otherwise he would have been dropped a lot earlier last season. With Dick over his injury concerns and with Krakouer as another small fwd option, where does this Leave Leon in the scheme of things in Pieland?

Averaged 99 in 2009 as a mid/fwd and 84.4 as a Fwd in 2008, he is clearly better than his 66 average from last year and 266k his current price tag would suggest. Much better fwd option as a speculative pick (only if he's assured job security and doesn't play in the fwd pocket) ahead of the likes of Petrie & Knights IMHO as they are both coming back from injuries where as Davis has been quite durable.

Big risk reward factor here, but quite a unique pick if he can find the ball again and recapture some of that 2008, 09 form.

Am I MAD?

Am I MAD?

In a word, yes. He has Buckley's to none (see what I did there with the Collingwood joke :p) regarding his job security. I would think that someone like Chris Yarran (similar price) has far greater JS and potential to improve considering a role change onto the HB flank and heading into his 3rd year. That said, IMO this is a bit of a moot point because I'd rather go all the way down to a rookie or up to a premium.

Any thoughts on Jack Anthony??

It would seem that Freo might play Pav through the middle again a bit this year and he looked in pretty good touch on Sunday.

At $220k definately could go up a good $100k and be a good 7th fwd although consistancy could be an issue.

Leapt on to my radar on the weekend. Worked very hard, got amongst it and will play all games which is hard to find at that price.

Consistency might not be there as you say but I reckon he is worth considering.

Really? Maybe its just me but I wasnt at all impressed with John Anthony while watching him.. seems to be a bit fumbly and was dropping marks he should have taken, made quite a few mistakes and the goals he did kick were relatively easy gimme goals...
Keep hearing alot of people from my section of the ground kept groaning and moaning when Anthony got near it, so maybe that highlighted his flaws more which could of course just be first game nerves.

Also seems like the type to only score well if he kicks a bag, hell if you want that might as well pick up Mark Williams!
