dont agree that they're better players and can't imagine why anyone would assert that confidently. crazy talk.

easier teams to break into, now there you might have a point
fair enough. I forgot Wallis was a father-son and because Gaff and Polec were top 5 I assumed they were better.

what are peoples thoughts of the sub 100k midfield rookies,

most people will probably have 1,

guys like wallis, atley, ally smith, libba, beams, curnow, green etc..

have beams as my 9th mid, but considering investing in polec instead, good prospect for 22 games imo.

It might be interesting to see what peoples thoughts are on the strengths of the rookie positions this year.

I may do a little poll and have some discussion about it.

What order do people see the quality and quantity of the rookies this year. Are the backs and forwards stronger than the mids in 2011??

If people think this than those that are starting 2 rookie mids and only 1 down back or forward might want to reconsider, having said this, midfield rookies score better.

What about comparatively?

Midfield rookies generally/usually score better/more than forward or back rookies on a whole.

Havnt done any research into this but nplayers that are around the ball like premiums usually score better than premium forwards or backs, similar case for rookies.

Yes it doesn't take a genius to work that out. When I say comparatively, I am referring to their rookie scores in comparison to the assumed keeper scores in each position.

A defender rookie who averages 70 is far more valuable than a midfielder rookie who averages 70 despite scoring at the same level.

I think the midfield has a huge amount of GC rookies but not really sure about the others.

Polec, Conca, Gaff might get games but Heppell looks really good and ready made for AFL.

I. Smith anybody? Been a little said about him but no real idea if he will be named in round 1.

Backs and forwards look about even. I think Otten/A. Krak look the goods for easy selections if they're both named round 1.

Backs > Forwards >>> Mids

I don't like any of the sub-100K mid rookies so far. Gone with three DPPs on the mid bench.

I've also sacrificed a keeper to strengthen my depth (had 16, now 15). I figure I'm hardly ever gonna have my best team available with all the byes so might as well have stronger backups.

Bennell not really racking it up too much tonight. He's gotta justify the extra price tag and I'm not sure he can. Really think Jolly has done more than him.

Tape was excellent and I just might have to find a way to get him onto the back bench. Seems like a natural ball winner and goes hard at the footy.

Coad? In and out of teams right now but did enough to have me thinking he'll be getting games.

Matera and Prestia have been sitting on my forward bench since I put together my team last week and don't look to be going anywhere :)

Looking for a Non GC back bench player....have puopolo/duigan....

preferably like under 110k...

Any ideas juggalo balla?

Went to the game tonight and it must be said a few rookies looked really good and some looked avg to say the least. Ill have to keep that to myself though.

Puopolo, M.Watson, J.Batchelor, Duigan, (fremantle player, his name escapes me from port), Faulks, heppell, otten, Mckernan - that is all you need to look at (may have missed one or two)

Well we arnt just going to tell you everything so you dont have to put in some sort of effort.

Tape was probably the standout from my perspective.
Interested in Matera's groin now... :thumbsd: (Yes i know he came back on in the last couple of minutes for a couple of touches).
There were a few others with some really solid looking disposals that I think should be best 20 now, but I don't think most of the guys that played tonight will be best 20.

Did not rate a whole bunch of the others though. Lock looked very average. I really liked seeing Coad shepherd for his teammates nicely. Could almost drag him out of the defense to protect Ablett if no one else seems capable. Jolly was a huge **** and got some very interesting disposals. Personally i'd avoid him despite his DT ****tiness.
On a non-rookie note: Harbrow looked ABSOLUTELY horrendous. I think i rated the rest of gcs' rookies beyond him in terms of quality disposals.

Yeh agree Harbrow was horrible. Although you could still tell he was a class above his team mates.

What number was lock?? i didnt have a magazine so i struggled a litte but i know quite a few from the age group that was played.

Coad is actually putting up okay numbers IMO.

IMO you cant select to many GC rookies. Going for 3 in one position is stupid IMO, they wont be scoring to well at all.

GC however had alot of players out, paying at subi in 35+ degrees which the eagles are use to, but they arnt.

Ablett, Harris, Fraser, Illes, Brown, Bock, Toy, Weller all missing

Please tell me you saw the horrendousness (made up word to emphasis how bad he was) of Karlmichael hunt, he is actually hopeless and is only playing for marketing, you can tell he has no idea.

Not sure maybe Andrew Hooper? Micheal Hibberd? Brodie Smith?

Really depends on who gets a game or looks like getting a game soon.

I thought Tape looked good too, clean disposal and made some good decisions under pressure in the back half.

To me KH wasn't that bad.. he was caught holding the ball going to ground early but alot of players coming into the league get swamped on loose balls. It's just experience. He looked pretty composed with the ball and they spotted him up a few times from the kick outs. Provides a physical presence too.

I wasn't overly impressed with Coad though unfortunately, his defensive skills seem sufficient but I think he lacks mobility for his size. Is he a third tall?

Coad would be looking shaky when Bock comes in.

It would seem that way, can he play 3rd tall back??

Karl Michael would be the first to leave the team, but even than he is just a crowd grabber, so he may get the AFL nod ahead of someone like Coad who is very unknown to the general footy public.

I dont think ill be picking Coad now, Hutchins and Bock seem the tall backs ATM.

How many games will GC stick with K Hunt. If they give him 2-8 he could be worth a spot purely for money. He was recruited as a major signing and surely they will get games into him early to get some crowds going.
