HMAC only scored 24 and 23 points in his two NAB games right? or are fanfooty wrong?

I agree with the thought Goldstien offers more forward than HMAC but he also offers more in the middle than HMAC. But HMAC is a much better ruckman than forward. Ive also seen him kick a couple of goals up front but he is too easy to rebound on.

Im not sure how north fans see it, but from what i saw last year Goldy has very good/elite foot skills for a ruckman of his size. He also covers the ground beautifully and gets involved in some link up work. He by no means is a Cox but he goes alright. From watching HMAC two years ago his foot skills were pretty avg and his movement around the ground also sat about avg.

I dont think you need to take a RISK with any of the above 2 when you can get a certainty right in the rucks.

Goldstein will still be our no.1 ruck I'm almost sure of it, he has better skills but yes probably also better forward. HMAC will still work around the ground, he plays that role quite well. There was a passage of play against Richmond; HMAC mark kicked to Petrie who kicked to Tarrant (dropped the mark) Richmond rebound kick up but was intercepted by Goldstein. Was good to see the big men working together but yes if the mark isn't taken only Goldy and Petrie are useful on the ground.

Also should be noted Goldy didn't play against the Hawks.

I won't be picking Hamish.

Any point having Hmac as a 2nd ruck with Giles on the bench?

My question exactly. Was deadset on having 2 premos in the ruck all preseason, but having H-Mac as a 2nd ruck frees up so much $ to upgrade and makes my fwdline and backline look much more settled.

Plus hopefully H-Mac can do his job to be a decent stepping stone towards picking up Cox later since I would not have had Cox if I did start with my 2 "set-and-forget" premos..

If your going to upgrade anyway, wouldn't just have Giles, Orren and Redden?
Save the coin and have a premium somewhere else and "save" a trade.

I tend to agree. I think you choose Hmac with the expectation that he is a "lock" for the season, releasing a trade to be used elsewhere.

Slightly concerned about Orren's output on the weekend, looking for a big game from him this weekend to settle the nerves.

Jenkins from Adelaide is putting his hand up for selection too.

Interested on thoughts about a cash cow ruck set up. Considering rucks are rarely subbed, what are the thoughts on a ruck set up of:

1. Hmac, 2 Giles, 3 Orren, 4 Jenkins/Redden

(havent looked into byes for this yet, but unlikely to be a factor as ungrading would be likely before the byes)

Total cost of $594,200.

Currently my set up is McEvoy, Jacobs, Giles, Orren at a total cost of $1,098,200, but I only have 120k left for 2 backmen :/

Thats 500k roughly in my pocket to use elsewhere. If Hmac averages 75, Giles 70, Orren, Redden/Jenkins around 50 it seems like a good deal. Seems to me like you are sacrificing around 50 points in your starting line up to have 500k elsewhere.

Or if your balls are even bigger, could have a ruck set up of Giles, Orren, Redden and Jenkins/Derrickx. I get the idea all will play a decent amount of football this season.

Just thoughts, likely to change my mind 50 times before the season opener

I agree, Was hoping Orren had a better game and that I was confident starting premium with Giles and having Orren as back up. Now I think that I am better off with premium and Kreuz or Hmac as second ruck and using Giles as back up.

With the approx 170k a rookie ruck over Hmac releases, you could upgrade a midpricer to a premium, or a rookie to a midpicer....

Question is, will that give you more points than if Giles/Orren start scoring 25-40pts and Hmac score 80+....

Andrew Phillips looked to put in a reasonable effort for GWS in the second half against Hawthorn. I wonder if their coaching/selection committee will consider;

1) Brogan, Giles
2) Brogan, Giles/Phillips (Rotational policy)
3) Giles, Brogan/Phillips (Rotational policy)

I haven't coached at AFL level, but given that Brogan is there for a year to play and there aren't any expectations for the side to win, I think the third option will be the winner.

Brogan has question marks over playing the whole year, Phillips is a kid. Perhaps between the two of them they can cover a support role.

Anyone know why Leuenberger and Mumford had such bad DT scores? I know they only played a half but 14 and 23 for a half isn't great

Because its the NAB cup, others who have looked dismal so far include: ( not just rucks )
Goddard.
Sandilands
Jolly
Newman
Pavlich

Its very hard to judge just on the scores.

52 points in two 20 minute quarters (adjusted to 130 in the Freako) is dismal now? He looks in outstanding nick. As did Sandi in the first game against Essendon FWIW.

Calm down I wasnt getting stuck into the Freo players, i dont know their time on ground, and I dont even know what a Freako is but it sounds good. :D

I guess my point is it can be hard to work out which players are going hard in the NAB cup, which are cruising, and which are being managed.

In regards to the ruck scenario i have porps as my sixth forward and lake as my sixth back. Upgrading stephenson to kreuzer means lake and porps must be replaced with rookies.

Currently i have 3 premium defenders with 2 mid pricers i expect to improve up to keeper status as far as defenders go plus lake. I have 4 premium mids, 1 premium ruck and 4 premium forwards plus ballantyne and porps. I'm taking a fair few risks this year and am hoping for them to come off. If they do i'll finish top 100, if they dont probably around the 10-15k mark.

I challenge you to find one post which says that...your posts are of no value

Assume he is referring to someone who quoted Big O's VFL stats equating to 80.04 points per game. Also someone else claimed 70+ points.

But seems like one guy saying I told you so and another guy calling him childish.

Either way Big O has worried a few dt coaches and I'm not as confident in him as I used to be.

Think those who are using 1 Premo ruck are more concerned about Big O than those who have 2 Premo's and Big O as 4th ruck ;)
