Oh well it was fun while it lasted!
And it's still fun!

Honestly, if we closed this thread every time someone thought it was over, ... ... I guess it would be closed. It's not over until it's over, we should all know that by now.

I totally agree just going along with the fun and games :D:thumbsu:

As much as I like Martin, we couldn't realistically play him and Ziebell in the same midfield, it would only really work if Ziebell became a semi-permanent half-forward who swings into the middle as much as a Martin type would go forward. Our club has seemed reluctant to make that call and the desire to play Swallow, Cunnington and Ziebell in the middle at the same time doesn't convince me that we wouldn't shoot ourselves in the foot if given the opportunity.

Kelly obviously adds to where we are deficient, as good as it sounds to target a very good player in Martin, with the kind o cash bandied about we could probably afford two good outside options. I had the same gut feel when we chased Boak, and was happy we missed that boat.

I think Martin is a much better prospect, however, I think we would still have the same problem with our ability to go with more mobile teams both ways, one of the major boons if getting better midfield talent is the hope that we can abandon or mostly ineffective zone which attempts to compensate for our midfield's inability to defend one-on-one on the rebound.

I'm usually on board with your thoughts Tas but this ones way off. We lack midfield depth. Not only do we lack midfield depth, we lack elite talent. Martin would be perfect for us.

"Ziebell became a semi-permanent half-forward who swings into the middle as much as a Martin type would go forward."

I reckon that would be a given

Still they come up to us
another "Dusty's signed" tale and straight face
Wishing they could travel
backwards to another time in space
They're a relevant, big club
think that they are footy's master race
They're nothing but blind tragic's
Dreaming games, seasons of pain and waste
