Eade and Selection

I would like to ask a genuine question about Eade. For those that were around when Eade was coach. The question is:
Did you find Eade's selection policy very conservative? For example we have a number of senior players out of form. Eagleton for example has been down for the past 6 weeks and does not look like improving. Eade still picks him though. While in the seconds some kids are playing well but get overlooked. Was wondering along with alot of other Dogs supporters if this was his policy with the Swans as well.

Eade like Roos was prepared to stick by those who got the job done. He's not as experimental as Mark Harvey but than your in the top 4. Though he had a young group when he started and thje core group remained stable for much of his coaching career at the swans.

Eade will stick by those who put you there Regardless of form now, as frankly his theory is the kids with no exposure to senior football are going to struggle to make an impact in September so the senior players need the time to find their form

I notice Stack and E.Wood have all got shots in recent weeks but the likes of Murphy are going to be needed for you in September. Eade will reward the kids who were there when the whips were cracking to get you there. e.g Callum Ward.

He does however have players he falls out with, his temper or whatever he clashes and that player can be left in the reserves and moved on, this can be a younger player who fails to respond to his temper, which can be very intimidating.

Thanks for that as that seems like Eade to a T. We have a player at Williamstown in Guy O'Keefe who has been in the best each week for the better part of the season yet no reward for effort. On the flip side Eagleton has been a total liability for 5 to 6 weeks now and is a proven under performer in big games, yet Eade persist with him. Very frustrating to say the least. He seems to favour certain players that is for sure and picks on potential more than form.

I did watch the Swans back when Eade was coaching but for the most part i was quite young so i didn't have a good understanding about the Swans reserves. I've always wondered (in retrospect) why Rodney Eade never seemed to have faith in Brett Kirk.

Kirk has been a amazing player for us but he couldn't really break into the Swans team until Rodney Eade left and Paul Roos took the top job.

Interesting point. Though I would say there is a lot of arrogant footballers out there. Could name a quite a few but that should not stop selection as those type of players are usually the best. Carey for example.

difference is Carey could back it up, I saw Guy play against Port early in the year and he was ok, but this is the buisness end of the season and Eade probably doesnt wanna upset the team too much regardless of form, Guy would probably get a look if they werent in the finals hunt.

There is a lot to be said for continuity especially approaching finals. Eade is conservative with selection but there is a lot goes on that supporters just don't see. Each of us is one person watching 22 or 44 players. The coaches have people dedicated to watching only half a dozen or so and reporting on whether they did their job. Many Swans supporters (including me at times) express frustration with Ablett yet watching him specifically on Sunday it was amazing the amount of work he does.

You guys are lucky with Rocket. He is an exceptional coach who appears to have corrected, at least to some extent, the volatility that eventually cost him his job in Sydney. Have faith that he knows what he is doing.

If this is the case with Guy good luck to him most of the best players like carey,voss ,buckley,brereton,browny etc have a lot of confidence in their ability which is mistaken for arrogance.
Guy is a class act & i would suggest some of his teammates at Willy would be envious that he is living the dream of some of them who are frustrated at not being on an Afl list.I doubt any would not think highly of his talent.
