In the Western Australian today Worsfold mentioned he would be prepared to give up there first draft pick for a small forward. Thoughts.

Would be a stupid decision by west coast. From carltons perspective the only one i can see going is garlett and there is no way he is worth a first round pick.

True but he is still mighty young, suspect he is gunning for Yarran.

Good chance Carlton may trade Yarran and get a first pick and something with it.Yarran has signed but don't think he won't be offered if a deal was too good.I'm just putting it up their.

I don't understand why people are so keep to give away betts, yarran and garlett. Pick 4 will be a good pick and if we are lucky we could end up with day but our small forward will be great player in the next couple of years.

What about Eddie?

Eddie, LeCras and Kennedy working together would be pretty dangerous you would think.

Its pick 4 we are talking about here people.

Well, in terms of Return On Investment, Eddie has well and truly delivered from the PSD. I know we have fond memories of pick 4 for Hamill  but if there was a player we needed that we ranked in the top 4, e.g. a 'tall forward'* then Eddie would fit the bill. WC get an established star, we fill a need with a potential 200 gamer.

By contrast Yarran hasn't yet delivered on ROI. Unless the MC really didn't rate him, swapping a 2008 first round draft pick for a 2010 one benefits only the Eagles with 2 years in development.

* Splendini, I've heard conflicting media reports, would we be reaching for Darling @ pick 4?

Forget the reaching concept this year. WHs WILL pick a tall after researching for one all year...maybe an outside chance for a HBFer who is hard and can kick. He will then say the player is best available to all the media.

No mid as Buckley jnr comes the following year! No ruck as we have 4 and may even trade one. That leaves KPP tall or HBF with our first pick.

A pick 8-12 mid wouldn't help us at all change our current deficiencies + we have Buckley coming along the following draft. A tall def/fwd/KPP or at worst an out an out HBFer with grunt/kicking would provide huge gains in 2+ years...our new window due to lack of quality talls. Waite to exit in 3.

Disclaimer.
Only change to this scenario is if GC hand over an early pick for one of our tradeable ruckman!

PS
If we have real pick 15-20 this year...does anyone really want a best rated mid over a need tall? At this pick? I only ask as we would currently benefit more from a pick 20 tall more than a pick 10 mid.

We have the most talented small forward trio in the comp - they ain't going anywhere. Period.

In addition to a small forward, the Weagles also need - 4 decent midfielders, 4 decent defenders, 1-2 tall forwards, a replacement for Cox, a new coach, new assistant coaches and another small forward. It's basically a total disaster over at Weagleland.

It shows just how much trouble that club is in if they have found their number one deficiency is a crumbing forward.
A) They dont have a key forward
B) Le Cras is a ball hog
C) Their midfield are potatoes sans Kerr

Not being exact..just an example of the principle :thumbsu:

Would we benefit more in two years from another Bower (pick 18/19) or a Lucas (12). My argument is that we'd benefit more structure wise from a Bower type.

There is no guarantee that someone as good or that we rate as highly as Bower, or a pick 20 tall as you say, will be there. There is no guarantee that this player exists.

True.

Hopefully on WHs personal list, there are enough talls scattered through his list so he can pick one. I'd put money on it this year :)

So it's hopefully now. Well I agree, I'd love to see us adding some talented young talls to our list, but only if they are there, only if they are good enough to be taken at that pick. If they're not there and especially if there are steals like Lucas then our recruiters will make the right choice again.

Not really 'hopefully'...i just said that for your benefit to avoid a shit fight :thumbsu:

sounds similar to us..

I listened to the press conference. He said they would consider trading any pick if there was a player on a list equivalent to the draft. He cited Ballantyne as an example. Carlton supporters are renowned for over estimating there players. I doubt the eagles will be trading away pick 4 for small forwards that aren't performing i.e. Garlett/Yarran/Betts. Especially since there are some good forwards in the draft.

Yes because overrating players is a trait only known to Carlton. I am sure no Eagles fan would ever do that.

See you later.
