Class players. Though they can really get on your nerve sometimes. Watchging the first quater of Doggies Port Tanking match. Farren just wouldnt man up on Rodan. He does this very often and so does Eagleton. Both great in attack but thier defensive side:thumbsd:. Also they both turn the ball over a lot. Ecspecially Farren

Did you ever consider that they are attacking players and never asked to play defensively? Their strengths are their run and carry after all.

You considerd letting players loose. like Ray and Eagle have done all year will kill us when we play a class outfit like Geelong. Rodan smashed us up in the first quater. And if Port had the winning abilty like last year. Who knows what couldve happened

That will be the coaches call. It's working for us at the moment. I think a lot of Eagle and Ray's hard running goes unnoticed. I'll admit though, Ray's 'my boy' so i will stick up for him.

Dont get me wrong these guys are abosulete stars.
I think Ray can be an elite player in the AFL if he was just a tad more cleaner with his disopsal and if did a bit more defensivley

Eagleton sucks and Im growing more disappointed with Farren by the week. Hes not accountable, and his disposal and decision making arent up to it. Hes had 5 years to get comfortable at this level, and I'd rather see Hill, Ward or Higgins (when fit) play in September.

What an insiteful comment

Beg to differ. Give me Ray and Eagleton over Hill and Ward. At least in 2008. Eagle might be in trouble next year and i expect Ray to take another step. Remember he broke his leg during the pre-season games and had a late start to the year.

How hypocritical

You bag Ray for not being accountable. When the only thing Hill was chasing was the Water boy looking for a drink

Also get the tape out of the 2006 final against the pies

Ray one of the best on the ground

And here I was thinking there would be no Ray and Eagleton bashing this week as they both played well on weekend and the bashers wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

People like to think back to the 1 or 2 bad mistakes and forget the other 18 that hit the target perfect. The stats simply do not support you, since Ray came back into team, he has improved every week and last two weeks has been in better players. Taking out his first two weeks back, he has one of the highest effective disposal rates at the club in the last month.

Eagleton has also been very consistent over the last month as well. These two players are not taggers, they are wingers and there job is to run hard down the lines to create opportunities, not to shut down opposition players

Ray
17 - 23 posessions at 87% effective
16 - 20 posessions at 85% effective
15 - 22 posessions at 77% effective
14 - 17 posessions at 88% effective
13 - 21 posessions at 76% effective
12 - 12 posessions at 75% effective

Eagleton
17 - 23 posessions at 78% effective
16 - 21 posessions at at 71% effective
15 - 25 posessions at at 64% effective
14 - 22 posessions at at 81% effective
13 - 21 posessions at at 71% effective
12 - 17 posessions at at 88% effective

I agree that the critisism on Ray is unjust, but surely 1 good game he played nearly 2 years ago, can be a legitimate defence.

I actually think that Farren has done quite well since he has come back into the side. He a provided us with some good run but for god sake would Rocket please ban him from using that left foot....pleeeeaaaaaase

Eagleton and Ray both have their place in the team. They both get in to space and generate run and forward thrusts.

Eagleton is more a running player who provides a link (usually outside) in passages of play. Ray does the same but is a bit harder than the bald one and great overhead. Granted his kicking and vision can be woeful at times, but the same could be said of plenty of other players on the team and in the competition for that matter. He just has some hard work to do to make improvements in that area. I'm sure he will. He is most definitely required and in our best 22.

Eagle usually only plays about 75% of game time, however he is also generally in the top 5 to 10 possession getters.

Yes, they are not always heavily contested - but he is a wing guy - he is the link man - he does that very well.

Defensively - he has improved considerably.

Can be very frustrating though. Still in the top 22 by a long way.

His role has changed noticably this year.

He is being used in a pinch hit role off the bench and picks up the bulk of his possessions in the second half of quarters, his fresh legs through this period has been handy.

He still has a role to play, but I wouldn't say he is in our best 22 by a long way, would sit in our best 19-22 range.

Ah...:o

Did you mean 22-25 or something

100% correct!!

I've noticed (I'm sure everyone else has too!)...this year he seems to be kicking on his right foot most of the time.

Last year was a horror...he went onto the left every single time!!...but he;s been so much better at steadying on the right...and clearly had been told to do so.

I never really "understood" Eagelton's kicking power until I saw him live this season...impressive.

(Same as about 3 years ago I saw Wheatley playing a VFL game against Tassie and was absolutely bloody impressed with his kicking. Amazingly good! :thumbsu:)

ever thought the reason why eagle gets so much uncontested possession is because his gut busting running mean his opponent can't keep up?

it's not like he's getting cheap possessions, he's running hard into space and quite often in the middle of an attacking thrust.

Ray has often been used in a tagging role to good effect of late. He is also commonly looked to, to run forward and create the free man. His role involves a huge amount of gut running, and not many others at our club could do it. It's one of the most important roles in our team as far as setting up our forward movements.

Pretty poor week to take a shot at him. WAAAAAAAY off the mark.

Exactly, I swear we've played better with him in our team. He's only going to get better as the season goes on.
