"WCFC CLUB STATEMENT"

The West Coburg Football Club wishes to share with our broader community the following statement that has been issued to our members and supporters following an incident at the Division 1 Senior Grand Final on Saturday 16th September.

Dear West Coburg Football Club Members and Supporters,
We wish to address an incident that occurred during the Seniors Grand Final on Saturday at Windy Hill that resulted in a West Coburg player being sent from the field. We are providing support to all the affected parties with their well-being at the forefront of our concerns.

We condemn the incident and want to assure our community that the act in question does not reflect the spirit and principles of the West Coburg Football Club. We also wish to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the fundamental values that embody our club. Values that focus on respect and fair play.

We are working with the EDFL (Essendon District Football League) and expect that the incident will be reviewed in accordance with the league’s guidelines and procedures. Simultaneously, we are conducting an internal investigation, and following this, will take the appropriate actions. These actions will include intensifying our efforts to educate our players on the need to live our values and ensure the way we play reflects them.

We thank our members and supporters for their continued loyalty. Together, we will emerge united and resolute in our commitment to the values that have always defined the West Coburg Football Club.

Sincerely,
Ian Allen
President - West Coburg Football Club

Gloury’s unprovoked act was a disgrace and weak, one would assume a big penalty to be come. There was sniping and cheap shots from both sides throughout the game, not a good showcase for the league.
It was a Grand Final.....not condoning the act that has people talking, but saying it wasn't a good showcase is a tad extreme. With what's at stake in a GF, emotions run high and that's what we love to see. Hard footy that tests even the bravest.

Nothing hard or brave about what he did, doesn’t matter what’s at stake throwing 2 unnecessary cheap shots is disgraceful and cowardly.

I think I am going to vomit. Values went out the door on Saturday Ian Allen. Who would accept support from anyone at West Coburg after reading that dribble?. If they were serious they would sack the assistant coach Gloury and make it clear he is not welcome at the club in any form for a minimum of 12 months. If you watch the footage it is apparent a number of West Coburg players themselves were not condoning of the behavior of Gloury and stood and watched matters unfold.

Understand where you are coming from but he doesn’t have to put in the statement I’d they have or will suspend Gloury

Investing in a quality coach is a good thing. Plenty of money goes wasted on overrated players that don’t train or buy into the club.
He’s Ex AFL, EDFL premiership coach and VFL head coach. He’s resume is very good, character is more in question by some.

What’s a really good Senior Coach worth ? Believe he might be doing it full time as well. $60k would be at the high end of Premier but that’s probably where they are aiming to be in 3-4 years. Senior coaches do a lot of work and hours and can have a huge influence on a club. No one comes close currently coaching in Div.1.
Holland will need to bring Glenn Allison back if hes any chance to repeat the success he had in his first stint with Marby.

When the player is leaving your club in 2024 and the league hasn’t handed down a decision what else can the president really say

I've spoken with two people close to the club and I can tell you they're gutted by what happened on the weekend. I feel for them. It's a start and I think it was Gremlin77 who said it's really what they do next which will be the telling part in all of this.

Has anyone heard anything from Phil Cleary yet?
Other than the punch from Saturday's game, no doubt had West pulled off a miraculous win, he would have been claiming all the credit. Wouldn't surprise me if he's blaming Dale May for the loss.

I feel for both his two sons.

Bored and have gone early. What is everyones ladder predictions for 2024.

Mine is
1.Rupo
2. St albans
3. Roxy
4. Marby park
5. Hillside
6. Cragieburn
7. West coburg ( pending on the rumours of the club imploding after the granny)
8. Oak park
9.moonie valley
10. Keilor park
11. Tulla

You're probably one of those flogs who said Tulla would get relegated midway through the season. If Tulla finish on the bottom in 2024, I'll run a lap of Windy Hill in the nude come GF day.

Someones a little bit touchy over Tullamarine. Dare to say involved or around the club? 🤣🤣🤣

Just a discussion, dont have to get so offended over an opinion. They what won 4-5 games last year ? And 4 of them were against the two bottom sides from this year.

I agree there should be something relating to the player and the act.

I’ve watched the vision so many times and I’m still disgusted to see those weak spectators get involved. Never seen one WC player or official react to them. Surely a player or offical would go over and say that’s disgraceful and a further blight on our club.
Onto another point what if the DP player reacts and goes at them. To me his within his right to react but then he probably gets carded.
Seen too much of idiot spectators at senior and junior games! Had enough of these idiot cowards ruining the game for the majority.

How good and tough was Dorgan to bounce back up after that bump/elbow. To me it appeared Gloury wanted to throw his weight around. That can happen in GFs and not the first time. But the second act is a horrible look and very old school. Once again the DP player McKenzie is tough as to bounce back up from that. Agree you can see many WC players close by that don’t want any of that stuff. They look a bit bemused in fact. Played the whole year to get there and then see that from your assistant coach. That’s what gets me in all this that he is a leader at WC being appointed assistant coach. It’s what makes it difficult for WC to defend after all the publicity about coward punches, concussions, violence etc. Community clubs should be a safe place and set examples!

the statement refers to "an incident that occurred", this implies there was only 1 incident, so is he referring to the king hit or the WC spectators assaulting DP players?... I appreciate the club putting out a statement but they have not helped themselves by not addressing everything which further implies they do not think the disgusting behavior of their supporters needs addressing ..

EDFL statement just released:
The charges against a West Coburg player arising from the match reports made in the Grand Final between Deer Park FC and West Coburg FC have been dealt with by the independent Tribunal.

As both parties are considering their respective appeal rights, the EDFL will not make announcements on this matter until it is finalised either on the hearing of the appeal (if one is lodged) or if no appeal is lodged on the expiration of the period of time allowed for the lodging of an appeal.

The EDFL has been informed that personal attacks and threats have been made on social media against the player charged and his family.

The EDFL condemns the making of threats against any individuals and points out that such actions are contrary to the EDFL policies, in particular its media policy.
