John parrone is a name that is getting thrown around ? Is this true ?
If it is didn't his son get dropped for the GF. ? How will this go with bugden re appointed by someone else ?
Or have they all put it aside and agreed to move on as one ?

Sorry if it has been chatted about Ben Davies and David Stretton have signed at GVFL club Shepparton Bears

Any idea how these go?

If you are from that club Carbs I'd be very concerned about the reasons they gave their teammates for leaving Avondale. Obviously want to be well paid for playing without doing the hard yards with the rest of the team during the week . They have both been good players in their time and can still play but I found the older you get the harder you have to train. This won't be the case with these two from all reports. Country clubs IMO need to be all over what's going down in Melbourne with these highly paid players.

You sound dubious about them both at best Bully. Shepparton are a side that finished 4th in the GVFL with a gap to make up to top 3 sides so maybe they are 'reaching' knowing they are close without the necessary due diligence regarding things like training programs. In my experience most Melbourne blokes who collect top dollar in the country prepare professionally. We had Marby's Brendon Hollow at Rochester for a year and you would never question his preparation.

Yeah the Melb based boys used to train at Goshs paddock and they had trainers, physio's and all. Think Josh Fraser was doing it a few years back when he was playing at Mansfield. Not sure what they do now other than ask a local club.,

Davies is still pretty good off half back. Gets plenty of the ball and sets it up from the back half. Still has his customary dash!
Stretton goes ok but hasn't set the world on fire in the EDFL.
I'm sure both on good coin so hope for the Shepp Bears they can deliver. Both would know Wong as well..

I know most blokes receiving top $ from country clubs would prepare professionally but the operative word here is most . These 2 sent a group text to former Avondale teammates stating their reasons for going bush. They both mentioned more time at home and no preseason or training requirements. One of them trained only a handful of nights preseason for this season and his form suffered. All I'm saying is if I was the Shep Bears I'd be keeping a close eye on them . And Turbo Davies is James Wongs cousin.

What is going on at Avondale? Very quiet, no news on coach and it seems that some players are on the move! It will be interesting to see what happens with the rest of the group. If they don't get a coach sorted soon i fear that they may lose a few more.

The rest of the comp also seems fairly quiet on recruiting news. GF was played over 2 weeks ago now and still no big announcements on any new signings for any clubs

The bottom of the ladder is likely to be just as interesting as the top in 2017.. No stand out weak team with Craigieburn likely to do everything possible to stay up, Avondale would want to recruit wisely or could find themselves in trouble, West Coburg usually do enough at home to stay safe but still would want to improve there list to be sure.. Any side who has a bad run with injuries and form could find themselves in trouble.

Yeah spot on!

The worrying thing for all 3 clubs is at least two of them seem a fair way behind the 8 ball. Craigieburn obviously have had their difficulties over the last 3-4 weeks. They seem a long way back from where Douttas were at the same stage last season. I'm not suggesting they can't rectify things but they will need to get in some substantial recruits to be competitive

Avondale are coachless and have reportedly lost 3 of their top 5/6 players. Worrying signs depending on how many others have re-committed.

Nothing much out of West Coburg. They have the base of a competitive side but would also be looking to maintain what they have whilst topping up to again be competitive.

We could have a relegation battle that rivals the drop of 2014 where any of Northern Saints, Marby, Douttas & Paco were a chance to go down with a couple of weeks remaining

Bully man I see David Stretton was named clubman of the year at Avondale, must be a Quality guy, hardly get that thorough lack of commitment, you questioning him seems off the mark

I'm not 'in the know' at craigieburn the names that have been dropped on this site that are rumoured to be leaving/left or not playing

Couple others I can't think of. That's not just any 5 players that's 5 of the top 6-7 players at craigieburn. That would put them well and truely behind Avondale even if they were to lose Patty Rose.

West coburg marby douttas Keilor been extraordinarily quite.

Have there been any names mentioned that could be leaving Greenvale or Airport West now that they have dropped to Div 1 ?

To be honest I question the motives of most blokes who travel 2 to 4 hours every weekend to play football. It just can't be the same as doing the hard yards for 100 or so training sessions to reach a result. These guys I'm talking about are already well paid at AH so call me suspicious but you tell me why they are moving. No don't as I've read their blanket text so I already know. Also on Strettons " best clubman " award it was in fact the coaches award . After finding out Avondales only rep in the EDFL team of the year Patty Rose finished 7th in His clubs B&F I just wonder if anyone in that club knew what was going on.

Young
Bongetti
Laffan
Mcerlain
Captain tuck

Word on the div 1 thread that Bundoora big man Matt Dennis is heading to Craigieburn.

Would be a handy replacement should Page head to Whittlesea.

He's obviously had a great career since going to Bundoora. Didn't set the world on fire when he was playing with Marby back in that 09/10 period, but would have been 21/22 at the time

They have made a number of key re-signings over the last couple of days so good on them. Just wonder why they didn't come to this conclusion on the coach a month ago and they'd be far more advanced!

25 days ago they won a grand final since then thier coach has resigned for 2 years the majority of there list has commited they have recruited arguably the best ruckman in the NFL with more recruits to come
How much more advanced would you like them to be

A lot more than they are.

They've re-signed 9-10 players? They have lost a few in the meantime. Conservative estimates mean they would need to "recruit" 10 players at least. Every other club would be well advanced in talks with prospective recruits and they would only need to recruit 3 or 4. Craigieburn need 10, that takes time and i doubt they have started that process as they've spent this whole week re-signing players that should have re-committed 23 days ago!

They are clearly behind the 8 ball

Douttas were at a much more advanced stage at the same time last year as they had a clear plan on what would happen if they won it.

Mate I don't no anymore than anyone else not directly involved up there but I'm a glass half full kind of bloke and you are obviously a glass half empty kind of person and frankly sick of hearing them get sprayed across all 3 threads, lets speculate on pacoe not signing anyone or talk about how the Ross's are considering an offer to return home to bunyip or Abers bank running low and get off CB back

I was only responding to your question as to how far more advanced do i think they should be

They have got themselves back on track but it was handled poorly up to that point. You don't see any other clubs flooding social media spruiking that they've re-signed players, especially one that played only the 1 senior game for the year!

The Ross boys going back home has gathered some momentum, far from a done deal but certainly a chance.

I don't know the ins and outs of Abers financial situation, however the reported murmurs haven't stopped and a few senior players seem to be on the move, and a few more senior players are certainly in discussions with other clubs.

Any news on Avondale? they have been pretty quiet.

Still not sure who is favourite to get the coaching job but they are trying to get someone with good credentials. Believe most of the list has re-signed except for Davies & Stretton. My understanding is Patty will probably stay as well at this stage.
