So here we are. Two weeks of junior footy left and Prelim Final time.

In Division 3 the mighty Northern Saints face the best team all year in Glenroy. I'm thinking a bit of complacency crept into their game last week too and I just can't see that happening again. As much as I'd love to see Northern win, it's Glenroy by 32 points for me.

The Division 2 game should be an absolute belter between Airport West and Hadfield. The big test for Airport West will be how to stop the effect "H" has on the game. At the end of the day, that's where this game will be won and lost. Hadfield by 18 points.

On to the Division 1 game and what an epic encounter this may well be. Douttas found out very quickly being the best team during the regular season means nothing when it comes to finals. If they don't come to play this week their stellar season will mean little.

The battle of the midfields will be a beauty. Cannons duo O'Kearney and Wunhym v Palumbo and Leaney. Tyler Vujanic will be more than a handful for the Douttas backline if he starts at full forward as expected. So much more quality across both sides should ensure the game will be close all day. I don't think there will be much in it, maybe a goal or two. My heart says Douttas by 8 and my head seems to saying the same thing.

Good luck to all teams right through the grades and especially those playing Grand Finals this weekend.

Great weekend of footy on sunday, some really big games on and the stakes are high,

In div 3, I expect a big game from Joel Cauchi and expect him to kick a bag, glenroy by 10 goals

In div 2, a rematch from a few weeks ago, both teams wanting that grand final against marby. APW will be very hungry for success after coping a thumping from marby a few weeks ago and desperate to meet them one last time but most overcome Hadfield. I expect a very close one with APW getting the win with less than a kick.

In div 1, boy will this be a great game, with doutta stars out of their comfort zone, keilor come in with a big chance to win this. What ever team steps up and is more eager for a match with Greenvale will win this. I'm going with a mighty upset and Keilor sending Doutta's home in straight sets by 2 goals.

glenroy were more unlucky than complacent there captain josh t went mid second term not to return with an elbow injury they lost alot of drive with him missing all the same avondale played well with blake laverie bog and i have heard josh t will be fit for northern saints

if josh is fit and ready to go, he will be a major difference on sunday, but i still think Joel Cauchi will kick a bag of 6,7,8 and be the dominate forward his been all year and be the one that is the difference on sunday.

In Div 3 I'm predicting a Northern Saints v Glenroy GF.

So, and without absolutely no certainty whatsoever, my tip is Hadfield v Marby in the GF.

My tip for the Grand Final: Greenvale v Essendon Doutta Stars

Not too bad. Replace Northern with Avondale Heights and just about get the trifecta.

Terrific game out at Keilor Park and really Douttas won the game in the 1st quarter with a dominating display with the wind that Keilor just couldn't replicate.

Outstanding game from Tyler Vujanic who took some great marks and was a constant threat all day either back or forward.

Well done AuckMel. I see your ladder positions were also fairly accurate. I agree that it was a terrific game and it kind of had a Clash of the Titans feel about it. The game was played hard and with great pressure. The inclusion of O'Kearney and Tyler V for Keilor certainly made for a more even contest. Tyler was fantastic playing both back and forward and presented many problems for the Douttas side. However, a first quarter blitz form douttas was enough to win them the game. Both sides had to show a defensive and attacking element as the wind strongly favoured one side of the ground. Beyond the first quarter Keilor performed well but was unable to kick enough goals.

The Keilor midfield (Zak W and O'Kearney) were well held and not allowed the contested posession that was required for them to win the match. The Douttas midfield (Laguda, Wallis, Leaney, Palumbo and B Myers) were hard working and creative and their backline was able to stop and repel many of the Keilor attacking efforts. Ntalianis, Briggs and Hobbs were particularly good and took many defensive marks and cleared the ball at critical moments in the game. The major goalkickers for Douttas (Campisi 4 goals and Stewart 2 goals) showed some incredible speed and skill in kicking their goals.

Next weeks grand final should be a beauty and again showcasing some of the best junior footballers in the Essendon district. Greenvale would be very confident after their upset win over Douttas in the Semi final. The game is scheduled to be played at Highgate Reserve. Hard to pick a winner!

well here it is a fantatsic three grand final games in the under 16s and what three games we have..

in div 3 avondale heights v glenroy..

just cant see glenroy winning ...the more polished avondale heights will have too much class and finese and come home by three goals...

best on ground medal.....josh trembearth(glenroy)

in div 2 marby v hadfield fc..

marby too balanced and widespread and play to a team plan (and well coached) that is hard to combat as valiant as hadfield has been to get to the grand final i see marby home by a huge margin..marby 42 points for mine..

best on ground medal... hisham kerbatieh(hadfield)

in div 1 .. ess doutta stars v greenvale...

douttas by a mile..

too many winners..

stewart, palumbo, myeres, leaney, ntalianis, wallis ...its a non ending gun list ..

doutaas by 50 points..

best on ground medal... bruno laguda ( eds)
good luck to all teams..

Some pretty bold predictions.

Personally and I know a lot of other parents involved in GF's over the weekend will feel the same, Sunday will be one of my proudest days. Like so many other kids my boy will be playing his first ever junior club Grand Final despite starting playing when he was 7 years old. In a kind of weird twist we'll be watching his old club, with his first coach helping call the shots, down at Jacana to kick off the day.

Win or lose we'll be celebrating. Tears will flow one way or the other. Obviously I hope Douttas win and I'll be cheering loudly and as proudly as ever, but a Greenvale win would be fitting reward for a team who've lost plenty of GF's along the way and usually against Keilor. What I would say is, if you do win, try and remember what clubs some of your boys came from before paying out on others.

FWIW, Glenroy, Marby and Douttas for me, but all by not much.

With all that said, that's me signing off on this thread wishing good luck to all clubs over the weekend. I know you've all worked hard to set yourselves up for a shot at the ultimate reward on the last day of the year.

news is that all junior divisions will be graded next year ...personally i think it will be a mess...u need to have all teams from the one club playing at the same venue on a sunday...

the edfl will base it on the last two years performance..

interesting times ahead ...they want to play grading games as well..

leave it alone....i say...

Boy what a finish in the glenroy v avondale heights game, a goal in the last 5 seconds, no better way to win a grand final. Josh Trembearth is a star and killed it all game but Josh Cauchi didnt rise to the occasion and was really quite first 2 quaters. Well done Avondale for winning and the boys going up to 18's will have a big challenge head when they take on A Grade, with Doutta's, Keilor, Greenvale, Strathmore, Marby and soon to be improved APW who are all div 1 and 2 top teams.

I know I was going to sign off on this thread, but just wanted to pay tribute to two teams who did their utmost to play an open style of footy on a pretty hard day to do just that.

At the end of the day, two great quarters into the wind by EDS was the catalyst for their win.

Shaun Stewart was adjudged BOG and it was well deserved. His blinding pace and decision making were two standouts features. He was one of many players who could have won the award. Among them were, Koolyn Briggs, Jake Hobbs and James Leaney.

And the kid that kicked the winner is my nephew....me and his old man (my brother) could not believe it. he had a shot with 2 or so minutes that looked good, till it faded with that horrendous wind, but still, just keep seeing the winner go through in my head and just smiling!

Great thread and a great way to sign off. Much deserved BOG medal to the young fella. He definitely left his best for last as it is one of the best games I have seen him play. Stood up on the big occasion.

I just want to make mention that the last junior Div 1 flag we won was Peter Wright's 2009 team. I am certain that Tangles was looking down on these boys and nudging the big Boss up there to make sure his beloved Stars get the job done. If anyone could persuade Him it would have to be Wrighty. He'll be proud as punch and knocking a few down in celebration.

Well done to all the boys and coaches on what was a long but worthwhile journey.

Anyone not doing anything on saturday morning feel free to pop down to Buckley Pk where Essendon Doutta Stars are hosting the Premiership Winning U16 Div 1 Maroubra Saints from Sydney and playing 2 games.

First game starts at 10 with the bottom age kids playing each other, then the top age boys go head to head.

Maroubra went through the season unbeaten and of course Douttas only dropped one game. Will certainly be interesting to see what sort of standard the boys from Sydney produce.
