**** me.

A CONVICTED drug trafficker who calls himself Dr Ageless supplied the Essendon Football Club's sacked sports scientist with potentially illegal supplements.
Biochemist Shane Charter is alleged to have provided Stephen Dank - a central figure in the scandal - with supplements sourced from Asia.
It is understood Mr Dank worked closely with Mr Charter to provide players with supplements, which are believed to have cost as much as $30,000. Mr Dank is believed to have been sacked after the club discovered unauthorised expenditure.

I liked this bit though.....

While it has been confirmed that Essendon medical staff, including veteran club doctor Bruce Reid, raised questions about the controversial supplements, the Essendon players have confirmed they signed consent forms that stated the substance administered was acceptable under the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Code.
The assurances were sought by the leadership group and notably David Hille and skipper Jobe Watson.

What does ASADA expect, that the players test the supplements themselves?

Okay, assuming the above is true, the question becomes are these peptides illegal to both import and administer, or is importing them the only illegality?

I remember reading before on the main board that one of the rumoured peptides was illegal to import but not on the banned substances list provided by WADA/ASADA.

this is just not going to good places..

how the hell did our great club get caught up in this crap??!!! Surely it isn't worth it..

I don't think we have even begun to get to the bottom of what was going on last year... no way this doesn't effect our performance in 2013... and to think we were two weeks away from potentially our best season in ten years!!

A question, assume for a second that Dank - whilst working for Essendon - is proven to have imported drugs illegally and/or administer illegal substances to Essendon players.

Essendon have made steps to a) sack Dank (likely for other reasons) and b) report the issue.

If the ASADA find that Dank has done wrong, yet Essendon management and players were unknowing where does that leave us? Is ignorance (as found through an investigation) a defence in this instance or not?

Not a defence.

This reminds me of what happened to the Storm, now that the media are baying for blood this could snowball very quickly.

They still need to prove guilt. Which would be exactly the same if no one had picked up the story.

Thanks for the info hdecure :thumbsu:

There is no out clause when you're a professional athlete, but IF they were all deceived by a person trying to get results and hide it from the club, I can see leniency being given. Am I just being optimistic?
you're just applying common sense. whether the ASADA applies it...

Last post in your page- seek apologies in advance.

Sorry, with no reference to Jobe or any player here, but comments like "He just seems like the kind of guy that would have absolutely nothing to do with this"

Come on, are you that naive?

They aren't beating a woman here. They're just doing what every other AFL player has done for the last 25 years to get through a game, sticking somesh*t into themselves and being team players
I'm just saying Jobe seems like an honest guy and one that wouldn't cheat.

Sports scientist at centre of Essendon drugs probe, Stephen Dank, claims jabs were clean

http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport...-jabs-were-clean/story-e6frepf6-1226572105326

Asked directly by the Herald Sun yesterday: "Did you give the players banned/illegal/performance-enhancing drugs?"

Dank said: "No."

Herald Sun: "You didn't?"

Dank: "No."

But investigations are under way, as revealed in the Herald Sun yesterday, with the Australian Crime Commission heading a probe into sports, organised crime, Customs and performance-enhancing drugs.

It is understood the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority, in conjunction with the AFL, will make a major announcement today about drugs in sport and its infiltration by organised criminals.

Suspicion grows about other players

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/suspicion-grows-about-other-players-20130206-2dywz.html

PLAYERS from other AFL clubs are expected to be implicated in the Essendon drug investigation.

Individuals from other clubs are believed to have used the same substances that Essendon players used, but did so independently of their club's medical and fitness staff.

Sources indicate the Bombers expect other clubs, and sporting codes, to be drawn into the scandal.

Ralphy, the same guy that ****ed up his massive scoop with Sandy Roberts has now come out and said that players were FORCED to take injections against their will.

But Kyle Reimers says he didn't take it. I don't know who's lying anymore..

Just because dank bought these drugs with our money doesn't mean he gave it to our players, could mean he bought them to sell on the black market....

Surely the consent form protects the players in the event that they were misled.
Consent forms wouldn't protect them. It's still the players prerogative to ask what is being administered and check the WADA list for themself.

The ONLY out clause I see (assuming illegal substances are involved) is this.

Player: "So this is drug x, the one you told us was safe and legal?"

Dank: "yes, no problems mate"

Player: "ok, sweet as, go ahead"

*Dank nods to the nurse*

*Nurse administers drug y, a banned substance*

"UNQUESTIONABLY, James Hird would have asked himself in recent days whether he should resign as Essendon coach.

The answer is no. Resign for what?

That Hird even contemplated the question tells us the weight of responsibility he feels.

No one who knows this iconic Essendon figure, a champion player and budding coach, would believe Hird knowingly was involved in the use of performance-enhancing drugs"
What the hell is Robbo on? How the **** does he know what Hirdy's contemplated?
