Level 106, dropped 30k runes and rode off the other way.

Make It Rain Money GIF

Funny how 5k runes are flush in the first 20 hours and so hard to come by, then you ride back past those early stages and drop enemies that smashed you with one hits. Love that about From games.
I’m 40 hours in, level 65 and still finding it difficult to get enough runes to level up.

True on the Ashes of War, but I dont mean the absurdity that was pre nerf mimic tear. Even current mimic tear is absurd. Just having something to take aggro is a big deal compared to prior games.
There were OP spells and incantations in the other games which I can liken to the Ashes of War. The spirit ashes are an entirely new, game changing element.

Not that any of this is bad, it's good to have options to make things easier for those who want it. I'm just saying for Souls veterans who are finding it too easy, a good start is to stop using the summons.
Summons make it easier but I think the bosses are tuned for this. As melee, you still have to get within wipe range to hit them. Magic with summons is the op easy mode.

I agree, Margit and Godrick I've just spammed Rock Sling while my wolves took their attention.
Feels dirty.

Honestly, not sure I agree. Malenia is pretty messed up but the rest I don't feel are any different from previous games.

It's an odd argument. Like, you don't have to use AoW or Spirit Summons. So diehard Soulsbourne can still get that brutal experience. Where as for me, I've tried DS1 and 3, Bloodbourne and Nioh, and I last around an hour or so, or the first boss and give up. I want to enjoy them, I love RPG's, but it's too frustrating.
This game though, i'm 20 hours in and always thinking about it and wanting to dive back in.
Catering to all audiences isn't a bad thing, especially when your not necessarily robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Very similar to me. I got decently into the original dark souls then played DS3 a little bit. Played nioh got hard stuck at the 2nd boss with a rage inducing controller throwing uninstall at the end.

I’m now playing elden ring 35 hours in and loving it. Yes I’m over leveled and yes I’m using sorcery summon spirits (or other player summons) and moonveil to beat the tough bosses but enjoying the hell out of it and it’s still pretty tough. Just not 50-60 tries at each boss lol.

bought it the other day and about 5 hours in. this game is ******* hard.
Idk where to go and end up trying to beat multiple bosses or side dudes at the same time.

Also, i massively regret my Hero strength based build. so ******* clunky and the damage is nothing special. gonna have to change it up and move towards intelligence and arcane maybe as i progress

Tbh I have no idea how people are playing strength builds. Your armour is like paper and getting close to a lot of the bosses is asking for death.

I went in fully blind and I'm super aggressive in any game I play so it made sense for me. Only level 18/19 but already finding that I need to be overleveled to beat certain bosses that I've seen people beat with relative ease.

****ing tough but I'm committed

At level 18 the only boss you should really be fighting is Margit, and even then you're fighting at a fairly low level for a new player.

I was over 40 when I beat margit. I have just finished rahahn and I’m level 78. Overleveling keeps it from being frustrating. It’s like either grind for an hour or two in one of the rune farming spots or beat your head against a wall against a boss who can one shot you. I know what I chose. No regrets!

Once you get to a point though... I wear the heaviest Armour in the game (Lionels) with the stone shield and I'm a ****ing tank. Poise off the charts. Can parry most attacks easily. Feels so good. I am destroying bosses in NG+

Yeah pure strength builds eventually get so much poise and disposable HP they can tank most things, this has been true throughout the history of souls. Add in duel wielding and jump attacks and you can stunlock the vast majority of enemies.

117 hours and finally finished it today. Now I can finally actually go places and read about stuff without the fear of being spoiled. Great experience, will forever have PTSD from Malenia's waterfall fowl. Have seen lots of people not really like the last few boss fights. I think the last two main ones were prob my favourite as a melee player, you be dancin with them with you really get it.

As much as I love this game so much I might have to have a break from it. I’m 40 hours in and I feel like I’m getting nowhere. I’m level 56 (thought I was higher)
I only get 1 hour a night to play it. And I don’t on weekends now at all because the footy is back.
Just hope I can return to it at a later date.

Red Wolf tore me a new one a handful of times last night.
Came with a few cm's of defeating him using transient moonlight.
At level 77, it should be fairly easy but my dodge timing is still pretty woeful.
