Embarrassing Number One Ticket Holders

Geelong have appointed Daryl Somers as their number one ticket holder.

How embarrasing is that.

Do other clubs have anyone more embarrassing???

Back in the early 90s when her star was on the rise, Bronwyn Bishop tried to get the Roos #1 ticket. Thankfully, North told her to get stuffed.

The current #1 ticket holders for the Roos are Simon Crean and Singrid Thornton.

For a brief time we had Elle MacPherson as our number 1 ticketholder for during the 1980's.

I'm not sure if her appointment or our performances over the 1980's as a whole was the more embarrassing.

In defence of Darryl Somers though, whatever you think of him he has always been a passionate Geelong supporter. Something that doesn't come into consideration at some other clubs when deciding on their number 1 ticketholders.

I think we had Paul Keating? Not sure how many times he stood in the outer at Vic Park in appreciation of the honour.

Not exactly.
The widow of TW Sherrin was no 1 and it was stated at the time that she would keep the No.1 ticket until she died which I found quite admirable at the time.
I think Pauly was no.2 or somefn like that. I think his 1st year was 1990 but he dropped off when we did. No surprise there.

As for the Saints and Elle - you were embarrased?

Collingwood Football Club maintain that all members are number 1 ticket holders which would mean that all are just as embarassing as each other.

I think the idea of number 1 ticket holder really pisses me off. It elevates one member above the rest, and it often isnt deserved.

Often it goes to a celebrity or someone, who hasn't really done anything to the club. It should go to someone who does something for the club, or is a past player. Not just been on TV and support the club.

True Mark,

Tommy Sherrin was one of the most underrated figures in Collingwoods history. It has been something of a tradition that a presidents relations get the high tickets at Collingwood.

BTW,has Molly Meldrum ever been number 1 ticketholder at Stkilda ? If not,he should be.He's always plugging the club in interviews.

At least Daryl has always barracked for Geelong,unlike Flick Kennett [remember her ?].

Glad someone mentioned Flick Kennett....I thought that was far more embarrassing that Somers.

I'm not even sure if the Hawks still have a Number 1 member - it used to be John Winneke I think, but I have no idea if there is anyone now. I agree with WCE2000 - the notion of a 'number 1' member is pointless - I mean how many extra members do you think Geelong will get now that Daryl has signed on???

The only number 1 member I ever approved of was Irene Chatfield at Footscray - but am I right in saying they took it off her a few years ago?
