Youngest team in the finals by a fair way. the future is looking bright

We've been one of the youngest since 2007. It doesn't correlate to a bright future. I notice our club has occasionally and proudly trumpeted this over the years and it angers me because it's lead to zilch.

Depends. When you win 6 games and finish 14th it means zilch. When you beat the reigning premier away, beat up on a poor team by a triple figure margin and then run the most experienced team in the league to extra time in a final with the young guys leading the way, there are definite positives. But you're right, it doesn't guarantee anything.

Yes when the **** are we going to be the oldest and most experienced team in the AFL. Have 6 to 8 200 gamers and 8 to 10 100 gamers in the side??

Poor drafting and trading, some bad luck with injuries, too many failures, means we don't have enough highly skilled, hard bodied, hard headed players who can drive the team when things are tight.

Since we've been in the AFL we've had so many good players turn to dust as soon as they hit 30 so they just retire. Most recently it happened to Schulz, it'll happen to Monfries this year and I can see it claiming Boak in a similar fashion pretty soon.

I think if supporters could see our game plan improving, our mental toughness and resilience skyrocketing, and our conversion rate much better (leading to better results), then I think a lot of the negativity would dissipate.

Seeing no improvement over a sustained period leads to frustration - which trends to negativity.

Nah people can't help themselves and just want to point out negativity in everything (ffs some of us like to be positive and there are over 1000 threads here were you can be as negative as you want) The crows supporters were thinking they were going nowhere in 2014. I agree with the frustration about players mental resiliance as that is ny biggest gripe. When people blame hinkley for this i just go outside and bash my head against a brick wall.
The reason we are staying so young is players like young and ahchee have not progressed so rather than letting them clog the list younger players have been given the chance to develop.
I thought it was great that hinkley had the balls to go with bonner and marshall in the final rather than playing a half fit Broadbent and a failed forward in Trengove.
Yes i think the future is bright but yes the players have to work hard to make it happen.

At the moment it means sweet FA, but there is a ray of sunshine I can see with the current crop of youth versus the previous bunch (Boak, Gray, etc)

For a long time there's been a theory floating about that, for all the good Primus did by blooding youth, he inadvertently created a culture and a group who felt they were entitled to play AFL. They were never afraid of being dropped, because it never happened. This meant that while we were left with an undoubtedly talented group of footballers who had played a lot of footy together, they never developed that "hunger" required to win a flag, or even to get over the line in pressure situations consistently.

This next group, I am reliably informed, is different. Frampton, Howard, SPP, to a man they're merciless. They're tough, ferocious, and internally driven. In other words, they're "Port Adelaide". I think we've seen enough of some of them this year to see that there is at least some merit to this analysis. Whether it amounts to anything, or ends in another round of disappointment, I dunno, but there is something there that wasnt with the previous group.
