But again Dan you are moulding the statistics to make Essendon look better. Its strange you picked 1981....er....NOT! Because before 1981, Carlton dominated Essendon like no other period in the two clubs histories. If you take out those 10 straight wins to the bombers that you had from 81 to 85, then its even again (17-17-1). And I think its fair to take it from 1986, just like you do from 1981. That's because we've both won two flags since then (Carlton - 87, 95; Essendon - 93, 2000). You see, its not hard to change stats around a bit to suit either side.
In the end, all I can say is look at my signature. Do Essendon have the wood on Carlton?....I think not!
In recent history have they? Well not if you take this year as an example (and I have just as much reason to take the stats from this year only, as you do taking it from 98 onwards, as I do taking it from 86 onwards, as you do taking it from 81 onwards, as I do taking it from 70 onwards etc etc etc etc - you get the picture.)
By taking the stats from 1986, you are just as guilty as me taking them from 1981!
I told you why I chose 1981. It is because that was the beginning of the Sheedy era, and the turning point in the Essendon vs Carlton rivalry.
If we just happened to beat you 10 times in a row, well, you'll just have to accept that, because it is part of history.
For the purposes of our discussion, which year do you honestly think is the most appropriate to choose, when deriving Ess v Carl stats? 1986 or 1981? Unbiasly.
Surely it has to be 1981, for the reasons I outlined. These days you see lots of Essendon stats from 1981, primiarly because that happened to be the year that Sheedy started coaching. It's not my fault that we just happaened to beat you 10 times in a row over that period!
Sheedy has always had a pretty good record over Carlton, and I expect that to continue, hence the use of stats from 1981 onwards.
