Yes, finals wins are good. and getting to a GF to lose is better than not making it.

You Bombers fans i clearly recall gloated big time when we were (rightfully or wrongfully) stripped of our draft picks and fined a million dollars when we hit rock bottom at the end of 2002 for Salary Cap breeches, which very nearly killed off the club.

A couple of very influential Easendon people (Most notably Ron Evans) were significant factors in that whack from which only now, 2020 we seemed to have fully recovered from.

Can't speak for other club supporters, but Carlton fans have every right to enjoy and celebrate Essendon's lack of finals success in the past 15 years, not to mention all the crap that went down with Hird and Dank and the Supplements program.

I have no doubt Carlton will win Flag #17 before Essendon and it will put extra meaning into the phrase "Sweet Seventeen"

It’s something Carlton fans enjoy fiddling with themselves over, but the “win a final” thing isn’t an indicator of being in the Top 4 and in the hunt for a flag.

We have won 176 games over this period to Carltons 135. We have finished in the top 8 nine times coincidentally the same number of times Carlton have been bottom 4.
I would love to see my team winning a final again (I am old enough to have seen five flags although I barely remember the first.) but at least I get to see my team winning games most years. Most years Carlton have been a basket case.

That's fair. I don't really understand the whole fascination with Essendon not winning a final. I assume it's just a easy troll for Carlton/Collingwood fans to get a dig in.

This is so funny. We were stripped of draft picks in 2013 and 2014 + fined 2 million dollars + we were kicked out of finals.
Our penalties were harsher than Carlton's.

If having pick one in 2016 for literally finishing last is considered a gift, then Carlton had a million gifts with priority picks and pick ones between 2003 and 2007. We never had any priority picks.

It was a pretty shit system of “compensation to keep players”, given Ryder, Carlisle, Crameri, Melksham and Hibberd all left.

As for fines and draft pick losses, ours were far bigger than Carlton’s. We just got on with managing our list despite them, instead of complaining for 20 years that they’d ruined us.
