Re: Essendon list changes

Cheeses, remember the last time Welsh played on Mitchell? F*** me dead!

P.S. The game has gone way past McVeigh.

Rd 6? I thought he did a ripper job.

Re: Essendon list changes

Whoops, I skipped a whole year!

God, years just roll into another the older you get! :(

Round 22, 2009. That's the game I was thinking! Hahaha

All I can remember of that game is standing up to abuse Campbell Brown as he came off the ground (right in front of me!) and Hurley's amazing left foot goal.

May need to [strike]download[/strike] purchase a DVD of it.

I'd previously never seen Mitchell make someone look slow.

Re: Essendon list changes

I'll take your word for it, because I have literally no recollection of the actual game bar a couple of moments.

I wasn't even drinking.

His jobs on him in 2008 and possibly Rd 7 2009 (can't recall the specifics, but we mauled them all over the park) were exceptional.

One tactical change Knights implemented which actually worked.

Not much hope for EFC if the game has gone past McVeigh.

Has the capability to shut down an opponent in the worst defence in the AFL.

Re: Essendon list changes

The way Hird goes with the defensive back & run with / tagging rolls are going to be very interesting.

I can't see him looking at McVeigh, Welsh, Slattery and NLM and picking 3 lockdown options out of them.

It wouldn't at all surprise me to see Hocking given a Cameron Ling roll which I think he could do well.

I still see McVeigh as being our best small defender if fit. Despite this, he my have ideas around Slattery (hope not personally), NLM or more untrieds like Atkinson, Reimers, Hardingham, or god forbid.... even little Quinny.

Surely Hird is more inventive and has more vision than to run with McVeigh, Slattery, Welsh and NLM as the key defensive roll players. It's time to move to the next frontier. The McVeigh, Welsh, NLM era didn't cut it.

Re: Essendon list changes

Hocking was tried as a tagger, was woeful.
What screwed us wasn't the 2-3 guys actually given hard run-with/pocket/tagging jobs, it was the other 18-19 gleefully running away from their man at every opportunity and not really bothering (or not being physically able) to get back onto them when we (inevitable) turned it over. Then got targeted and their man used as the link time and time again.

Instead of 3 all-out defenders and 19 attackers,
Let's have 3 all-out defenders, 1 or 2 tasked specifically with attacking, and the rest playing a much more balanced, rounded game, rotating through the attacking spots.

Will dominate.
Seriously in the top 2-3 most talented Essendon players I've seen.
Has been captain-coaching somewhere in the EDFL the last few years, has done well I hear, should be good.

Is Courtney Johns still going around out that way?

Re: Essendon list changes

No, I don't remember him playing up here at all, actually? Certainly not in the last three years, anyway.

Re: Essendon list changes

Must have the wrong league, saw Border Mail link, thought it was out there.
Deano would have to lose roughly 7 tyres in the old Jenny Craig measurements, but he'll rip it up.
Few wonderful Essendon alumni mentioned there alongside the enigmatic D-Mac, Kade Klemke!

Agreed.

Cupido was also another exceptionally talented player, but Rioli not only had the skills, but perhaps the smartest football brain I've witnessed (if you can do such a thing). Smarter than Hird, IMO.

A few of my mates played under him last year.

Not sure how he was as a coach, but they said he's a really nice guy.

Re: Essendon list changes

Just to clarify, that's just from the EFC 'senior' list, right?

This disclaimer was at the top of the article. Why would'nt they ust say retained rookies at this stage.

Movements on your club's list so far this season. Please note: rookie elevations are not permanently elevated until the national draft
