ESSENDON'S review of what went wrong in its dismal season will start days after this weekend's last game and will be run by the club's chief executive Ian Robson.

Personally, I think it's a joke that we are not getting an external party to thoroughly review our entire system of operations from board to players at Essendon.

Not quite the joke it is at Brisbane, but not far off.

This just shows to me that they are not 100% serious down at Windy Hill.

An internal review is NOT a proper review. The board are gutless!!!

Why should they get this right...
The board and the club have not covered themselves in glory, in the last couple of years.
Worst outcome would be some soft **** review that tells us nothing and leave us in the same state as we are now.

I would be happy even if they got an external review and the results were we should keep Knights and do everything we can to convince Camporeale and Prescott to stay.

Ok, maybe not happy, but at least I would understand Essendon would have given a serious attempt at having a completely unbiased full review of everything.

Robson is new to the club so brings a new perspective- he also said in the article that football spending needs to increase and we are behind other clubs in this regard.

New perspective does not mean he is unbiased.

No one can be completely unbiased if they are part of the system.

True- having heard him speak though I think he would do a great job as he seems like that sort of character but you are right.

I would like an external source appointed- I am okay with Robson taking care of the department, club etc. but they should get someone like Dean Laidley (or a past player/coach) to join Hamilton and Knights in the list/gameplan review.

If Knights in his three years has not identified the defensive failings of his gameplan (and they are terrible- the worst team in the league) and addressed them I fail to see how he will deal with them in the review.

If anything, the game style review being done by Knights seems to indicate they already have decided he will be there as head coach next year.

This is the most frustrating thing that has come out so far.

The finger can;t just be just pointed at the coach when the football department are sitting on their wallets whilst all around them other clubs are catching up and passing us by.

Under the structure of this review, would that not mean that Knights would have to sack himself?

Knight's works under hamilton and Robson.

And they make a recommendation to the Board.

Not to worry people. Internal reviews have there own advantages as do external. Dont think its weak just because someone choose an internal reveiw. External are not always the best options.

Internal can be known to gather greater depth of information as well as a respect and knowledge for the foundations which make the club sucessful (can often be overlooked in external reviews).

As long as ur coach isnt evaluating himself  ur alright

Re: Essendon Review Internal What are you complaining about ! You will have nothing to complain about if Knights is sacked at the end of the Review.

If a thorough external review concluded that Knights should coach in 2010 then I would support the result. To me it's not about a particular result but to ensure the process is as good as possible to determine the best outcome.

Internal reviews leave too much to be overlooked from fear of outcomes and egos.

Bit hard to analyse something without the thought and intentions of the man who orchestrates it not to be involved. That is what areview and analysis is ffs.

Aside from the past 6 months, he's had the previous 2 years to tweak the game plan. Surely there is no need for ANOTHER review about the lack of defense in Knights' game plan. I've been involved in internal reviews, you identify the weakness and you improve on the weakness.

Has Knights improved any of his weaknesses in 3 years? Match day tactics? Man management? Defense? That's a sign of a poor coach.

Is it true the club spent a bit of money on looking for the right coach.. Scouring the country, then gave it to the guy in the office down the hall?

Probably scared of stuffing up again, don't want to see the hard realities, the tough calls that have to be made.

Just find it intriguing that the guys who are in the gun are running the review.

Can anyone see the 'everything is alright' approach done after the 5 days it takes them..

What a joke we have become, we are the laughing stock of the AFL, and it ****ing hurts. I am a one eyed supporter and we are not even going to take a risk and get someone in to look at our pathetic list, our pathetic playing style, the football department spending is one of the lowest in the AFL (can someone confirm this, back me up?).

Why can't Essendon take a true risk and trade out "player x", or do "action y".. Just continue on with mediocrity.
