The demo is out now on PC, and I think it's out on 360 and ps3 as well. Has anyone else played it yet? I found it pretty damn good and a lot better than I expected. The graphics are nice (and it's nicely optimised for pc), and the setting is a lot different from the first game (the demo is set in post-apocolyptia it seems). That was my biggest issue with the first game, the endless office building interiors, but it seems that's been dealt with.

I'll be buying it anyway...

I loved the first game - tight if uninspiring gameplay, awesome story, scary enough when playing through. By the end of it though it had pretty much shot its bolt, so it'll be interesting to see how they pull it off.

Downloading the demo now...

This demo will pretty much make me decide whether or not to get this, I am not sure if this game will work, I hope it is good, but have the feeling it might just be adequate and nothing great.

was originally scheduled for realease on the 11th of Feb

They have pushed it back.......By 2 days to Friday the 13th "cue spooky music"

Looks decent and its always good to see a game that got banned, get released after WB didn't just sit thee and take the classification, arguing that Fallout 3 was even worse for what it did get banned for.

WB 1, OFLC 0

Played the demo last night, I quite liked it.

Was FRIGGEN SCARY, going through the school hallways, always a scary moment in a game, and when those apparitions come towards you it's like WTF?!?

LOVED the powered armour machine, that was an awesome addition.

A few annoying things, I felt the controls were a little clunky, didn't like aiming with L2.

The graphics were a bit hit and miss, the textures and environments were a bit "bleh", but the bullets, killings, gore and blood was very good.

Overall the demo was alright but probably not enough yet to make me buy it, there were alot of scary moments and the action broke it up nicely, the thing I really hope for with this game is that there are the real random scares.

For example in F.E.A.R there were a few moments where you would see something in the corner of your eye or turned around for some random reason and the girl would be there, or there would be some weird scene or something would happen, that is what I really hope for in this game and it isn't all just progressive scares, I really hope that there are just those random moments.

I just downloaded the demo. I never played the original, so I have no idea what's going on with the plot, but it was pretty cool going through the school hallways and it seems to be a pretty good FPS.

I don't know if I'll be picking it up though, it hasn't really 'wowed' me but I only played through a little bit of the demo, so I might change my mind later on.

IGN AU F.E.A.R. 2: PROJECT ORIGIN REVIEW

Closing Comments

Project Origin really has two distinct aspects. One is a completely competent shooter set in some great environments that doesn't really challenge the player. The other sees you creeping down an elementary school hallway. Your flashlight suddenly stops working and you move towards the end of the corridor in almost complete darkness, save for an overhead light that flickers every couple of seconds. It's creepy as hell, but you almost wish it was completely dark when you catch a glimpse of the bloody walls and weird organic things clinging to the ceiling. A noise behind you. You see an apparition moving purposefully towards you. You fire at it and it lights up, then disappears. It soon becomes clear it's toying with you, approaching on all sides, leaving you wheeling in the dark, frantically searching for it, trying to finish it off...

Now, we need both in this game – as stated in the intro, it's all about contrast. We just wish Monolith had produced a slightly more progressive or challenging backdrop for the horror that is this game's mojo. It's absolutely worth playing, but that's the difference between a game that scores 9+ and a game that scores 8.6.

8.5 Presentation
We like the integration of the story and the dialogue. Excellent art and sound direction.

8.5 Graphics
Stylish visuals that make good use of effects. Patchy environmental destruction.

9.0 Sound
Top notch sound effects and soundtrack. Creepy as all hell.

8.0 Gameplay
Solid core shooter gameplay, fantastic horror elements. Sadly, it’s a little easy and the AI doesn’t feel as advanced as we’d hoped. Oh, and enough with ‘turn the valve’ puzzles already!

8.0 Lasting Appeal
Solid, if easy, single player game. Very cool multiplayer – Armoured Front is destined to be a classic mode.

OVERALL 8.6

F.E.A.R. was a brilliant game that I played for the first time last year. It really highlighted the end of an era of gaming where game play was considered more important than realism (released in 2005 so really post mortem). The AI in the original is the best I have ever faced. The level design was brilliant in ways that only few games have. It is the only FPS I've played that has successfully combined horror themes in a game and still maintained game play, something Doom 3 failed miserably at. If 2 is half as good as the original it'll still be a great game.

Yeah that is a quality review.. as always.

I didn't mind the demo of this game, looks a lot better than the first one but I won't be buying it. If I run out of games and get bored I might borrow it from E.B. for a week.

Warner Bros. announced today that the free Toy Soliders map pack for F.E.A.R. 2 will hit the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on April 16, and also unveiled two other downloadable add-ons.

Except for announcing a more specific release date than 'mid-April' for Toy Soldiers, the publisher also revealed details on two other forthcoming downloadable expansion packs for F.E.A.R. 2.

The second DLC pack will include specialised Elite Powered Armor multiplayer maps and is due for release in May, whilst the third, slated to arrive later this Summer, will bring more single-player levels and additional multiplayer maps.

The Toy Soldiers maps have been confirmed to be free of charge and planned for release on the PC as well, although no release date has been confirmed. Neither pricing nor platforms for the other add-ons were provided.
