If Goodard had of been traded I think Saints would easily get pick 13 and probably more so the compo is justified. We traded more than that for Jolly (granted ruckman usually have a higher value) and he will only give us 4 years service. Goddard has the ability to be one of the top players in the comp - St Kildas starting a rebuild is irrelevant.

What do you think would have been a fair compo pick.

Might have got only pick 30? like Ball who knows but at least if they were offered 13 it didn't affect the other 15 clubs not involved.

The thing is, Saints might get a ten year 200 gamer with their pick 13, then again they may get a guy who gets delisted after ten games over three years.

Be interesting to see the last ten years of pick 13's and see how they've all fared.

I guess you have to average them all out, and it gets down to the luck of the draw a bit.

Goddard has a bit more currency than ball did though but i see your point of the unknown when it comes to doing a trade, is definitely a bit irritating that compo picks are created out thin air to the disruption of the rest of the draft, you would think all teams will see the benefits of compo picks eventually though.

The alternative is that players are free to move around as they please and clubs are not compensated, it comes down to whether you agree with clubs being reimbursed with a pick after losing a player.
