I'm not even sure why you're trying to engage here with this argument (help me out) because I don't see the equivalence in the incidents, other than they both occurred in the United States.

When the state kills people without due process that is straight up wrong. (Or with due process imo, except maybe in defensive wars.) It doesn't matter what your politics are, that''s an abuse of state power. That's why I think what happened at Waco was so bad even tho I have no sympathy for David Koresh who was a sleazebag child abuser.

When an individual acts like that then there's a whole different series of judgements at play. Were they acting in self defense? Did they have some other justification they felt was worth breaking the law for? etc etc.


(In Charlie Kirk's case it appears Tyler Durden Robinson was acting in a way that .... well ...

If you knew what Hitler was gonna do in 1927 and publicly murdered him in Germany no one would believe you if you said "I've seen the future and this bastard starts a world war that kills 80 million people and murders 15 million other people many of them Germans, including half of you lot" to the people who put you on trial for murder. There is no way you'd have a legal leg to stand on.

I think Robinson saw that Kirk would make the future worse, particularly for trans and gay people, and acted to prevent that.

So when you compared my attitude to Kirk's death with my attitude to Renee Good's death and asked if Kirk had been murdered by the state would my attitude be different then I said yes, even tho I think he's a piece of shit and wouldn't have mourned him.

The power imbalance between the state and an individual is so great that an individual has a chance to answer for their actions but the state is usually beyond that sort of accountability.

Unfortunately the world really does have a mid 1930's feel at the moment. I hope we are smarter enough not to end up in a global conflict like they did, I say this more in hope than expectation.

the whole insinuation of 'collective punishment' screams loud to us. Had it been a message of solidarity to my mind it would have read "one of you, all of us" which would have insinuated that all the uniformed forces stood behind every single civilian.
