many stouts in bottle >>>> guinness in can (& on tap in Melb.).

Cases in point - Guinness Foreign, Coopers Extra and the one I'm enjoying right now, Southwark Stout. Great value and 7.4%. SA's not good for much, but they've got it right with Coopers Extra & Southwark Stout.

Feelin' it:thumbsu:
Got a 6 pack of coopers best extra stout recently, excellent drink. Found the first one a bit rough but once i got used to the stronger stout loved it.

As an aside, the Crown Ambassador is coming out again (or someone I spoke to is getting a few bottles for his store). Has anyone tried it? It sounds like something you'd cellar, but at $95 for a 750ml it better be as good as some of the absolute pearlers that are made here/imported for half the price.
It came out on the 2/8.

Has anyone tried it?

Watched the vids on the website about the making of it & would love to try it but can't pay $95 for a beer unless it promised to changed my life.

Tried it, didn't rock my world. Still a very nice drop that is nothing like regular crown lager (thankfully). If people are looking to try something in the style of it, that is a beer that can be cellared etc. then i think Coopers Extra Vintage is a great option. Has the higher alcohol content, the almost creamy texture and if you have the patience an even greater flavour in a couple of years.

I do like the glassware though, Riedel crystal shiraz glasses. very nice.

A friend has been raving about a mex beer called Tecate recently.

Was hoping for a second opinion before I have a look for it, he tells me it's a beer no one can dislike but few will love which appeals to me since i'm looking at stocking it at a function.

I got 6 at home, they are really great for drinking wine out of (Vinum extreme shiraz).

I bought mine through a seller on ebay & they were half the cost.

Drinking a 6 pack of Redback at the moment... not sure if wheat beers are for me. Has a slightly funny taste to it.

I used to love wheat beer, but I've gone off it of late. Redback is very average anyway, try some Red Hill Wheat Beer, if you can find it, or Weihenstephaner Hefe, which is at every Dan Murphy's. You can get Schofferhofer at alot of bottleshops too.

Having said that, currently drinking Grand Ridge Yarra Valley Gold :thumbsu:

The best beer is a beer that I don't think is even available in Australia, a beer I used to drink all the time when I was living in Moscow. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you:

God bless the Russians. I would gladly move back to Moscow just for a glass of Baltika.

It's available, i thought it was pretty ordinary to be honest.

Yeah, I agree about Baltika. Tried it a while ago and thought it was pretty tasteless.

I moved to Vancouver a few months ago so I've been trying the beers around here. Granville Island Hefeweizen and and Okanagan Spring Pale Ale are probably my favourites. Both those breweries have a decent range. Got to try more of the micro breweries.

If there is one great thing about living in the US, it is the extraordinary amount of craft beers you can find. A fairly local brewery, Terrapin (based in Athens, GA, an awesome city and the home of the University of Georgia) has been churning out interesting beers lately.

Last night I tried their most recent beer - they've named it Hopzilla, its a Double IPA and rang in at 110 IBUs. Interestingly, though, it didn't have the rancid bitterness I sometimes find with very hoppy IPAs. It was actually very drinkable. Probably not a good thing since it is 10.8% ABV.

Also tried a couple of Norwegian IPAs, bit of a different flavour, milder and a little sweeter than many American IPAs. Well worth a try - one of them is from a brewery going by Haandbrygerriet. Don't know if it's available down there.

Beer is very much an aquired taste and the more i discuss it the more i find that beer snobs are in general more pretentious than wine snobs.

Im very much into heavy beers and bitters. Like a good stout, am a proud member of the 100 club (Guiness) at my local.

A few of my personal favourites and the situations i like them best in:

Everyday - VB
Special Occassion ie. wedding, family gathering - Crown
Morning Beer - Cascade first harvest / ice cold Lucky Beer
Day at the beach - Boags Premium
Writeoff - Guiness
Driving - Cascade Premium Light
Dinner - Hoegardden
