Since we can seemingly neither buy (last year) nor finish low enough (this year) to get a midfield general to backup for Buckley/Burns' ending years, I guess we need to find our own amongst Cole/ Johnson/ BShaw and friends.

So for rookie draft should we check who can release these guys for us from down back into regular midfield/onball?

* Harry O'Brien
* Ben Davies

Next year for the talls again?

Your short-priced rookie favourites?

Luke Jarrad, Heath Lawry and Jackson Barling are all in contention too, all training with the team.

I would presume we'd be looking at some of the more high profile players that missed out on the National Draft, such as Ryan Bain, Ben Sharp, Heath Grundy, Eddie Betts, Danyle Pearce, Jesse D. Smith, Rowan Nayna, Nick Becker and Beau Wilkes.

Considering all of those guys were considered, before the draft, good enough to be taken, some them rated as high as Top 20/30 picks, you'd have to figure that they'd be interesting enough for a rookie listing somewhere.

Personally, I'd like to take either Bain or Sharp with pick #4 in the Rookie Draft, as they're likely not to last. After that, we'll have 2 midfielders and a ruckman on the rookie list already, so I'd like to take a KPP, so Jackson Barling or Heath Lawry would be good.

I think because Burns is going onto the veterans list this year, we can only have 4 players on the rookie list, and Zane Leonard and David Fanning have been retained from last year, so that will leave us with 2 picks.

is fanning still on the rookie list? what has happened to crow? did he get the chop? is he allowed to be rookied for the third or fourth time....whatever it will be this time if he is selected

Crow was let go because his time was up on the rookie list and Collingwood didn't add him to the senior list. Fanning is still a rookie listed player as this was his first year on the list.

Zane Leonard is being kept on the rookie list out of convenience more than anything. He'd be put on the senior list if necessary, but if we could save the senior spot, why not?

David Fanning will have the next year to prove he's worth keeping around, and worthy of a senior spot, no doubt.

1st pick we will get a project tall key position player.
Kirby or Grundy who were 2004 All-Australians would be ideal but if their both gone I suspect we will draft Barling or Lawry.

2nd pick we will get a midfielder with Mullins to be re-drafted (unless he's gone before) as my preferred pick. If not than either Betts, Bain, Sharp or Jarrad would be a good choice.
