We need to get one of those blokes into the team this year and use him as a winger, at the moment we have exactly 0 players with speed. Just one bloke in the team with a bit of pace on the wing/through the centre would give us a couple of goals a game. I think our ball movement into the 50 and our effective clearances were the two main reasons why Melbourne got so close.

Priddis and Cockie in the centre is going to help us out with clearances, I hope both are in the team next weekend. As for the delivery to the forwards Im not sure how we can fix that one, off the top of my head id say we need to be super quick in moving the ball forward not leg speed but quick disposal. Quicker disposal + Priddis and Cockie clearing should help us tighten up those areas and be more efficient in the forward 50.

Wouldn't worry about speed, houlihan, nick nat, smith, swift all waiting to be unleashed sometime in the future.
Yeah, but does that mean we are playing a team half filled with placeholders?

In that topic, one guy I definitely consider a placeholder is Hunter. Although his form has been decent enough, one of the main reasons that we used to use him as a pinch-hitting forward was that he was a pretty good mark.
Playing now after his shoulder injury, he's got no confidence in it. He is trying to 'pick' his marking contests to avoid reinjuring it.

He's not been our worst forward... but for a team that is struggling to take a mark inside 50, it's the last thing we need.

Absolutely. We are only playing Priddis and Rosa because they are the best we have right now. If we want to compete for the flag we need to have at the very least, the 3rd best midfield unit in the comp. if our young guns are in fact guns, these players will most likely be replaced in the coming years.

I think our stocks around the ground have plenty of potential, it's just whether or not our midfield can develop to elite.

I dont see it as a bad thing.
I know we didnt shoot that well, but we got 30 scoring shots.
If we had kicked straight we would be laughing...we didnt..
But we got the 4 points, and sometimes a win is a win.

I dont know you could claim to have both eyes open with that statement.

Both sides played pretty ordinary football, but at the end of the day we had 30 scoring shots to 17. Fifty five inside 50's to 41, and most importantly, we finished in front at the final siren.

See you later in the year.:thumbsu:
ahh the stats man, always the easiest to disprove...some of your fellow board members could see it so I think its reasonable to say I had both eyes open wouldn't you?

If you like stats we had 43 rebound 50s to your 28 making your 55 entries look pretty bleak all of a sudden. My assessment of the game was we broke down along half forward, which didn't result in enough inside 50's from our time in possession. We also had 4 more marks inside 50. But I'm not much of a stats man you'll often find a case for both sides and I'd rather make my own assessment.

Good Luck next week.

Sometimes a team will need a scrappy hard fought win against a cellar dweller (No Offence to the Dees) to get there SH!T together.

We were poor on Sunday but will that point out our problems more to the coaches and selection commitee.

For instance:
Say Kerr is ruled out for 2 weeks, We bring Swift in for him and plays great footy when he returns will he take the spot of Swift, Who could be playing super footy or replace Rosa who is playing average footy.

I think sometimes certain injuries can be useful and then sometimes the can completly stuff ya.
This might be 1 of those useful injuries cause players Like Swift, McNamara, Scooter, McGinnity and Houlihan will get another go.

I think you are right. Gives a great opportunity to the 3rd and 4th round draft picks in particular to get a run, and you might just unearth a gem. I think we have in Bennell, who basically took an injured Whelans role. I like the look of McNamara, could be a player.

Yeh exactly not all draftees are going to be guns some are going to be spuds and some just good back ups.
Injuries gives everyone a chance to see maybe a small glimps of things to come.
Bennell will be a good player for you guys, as will Jetta, Blease, Watts, Grimes, Morton and Maric.
So you've got a good core group to work with and like us you guys wont struggle when the new teams enter the AFL.
Good luck for the rest of the year.:thumbsu:

Congrats on the win guys. I'm sure all West Coast supporters would be as proud as punch with that win!

Both teams come away as winners in my book. West Coast obviously get the 4 pts while the Dees finally put up a repectable effort interstate and more importantly keep the Scully-Butcher draft selection duo alive.

Quick Q. Masten or Morton. Which one would you prefer at the moment? They're both going to be gems IMO.

Ahh, you lost, so no. That is the ultimate proof of who played better I think. If you are happy with a narrow loss, then good for you.

Personally, I am pissed that we didn't smash you because of our inaccuracy in front of goal, but that is just me. Same as I take no comfort from the fact we lost to Brisbane by 9 nine points after winning three out of four quarters at the GABBA. Nor any solace out of a 17 point loss to the Hawks in Tassie, despite having more scoring shots than they did.

You would expect to have plenty of rebound 50's when we kick 18 points and you kick five. Our piss poor kicking at goal kept you in the game, however you were not good enough to take advantage of that. If you were a better team than us you would have won the game, just as Brisbane and Hawthorn did.

Rebounds could have been caused by our bad kicking, not making the 55 entries bleak.

what stood out to me was our inability to lay tackles, melb seemed to be able to slip our tackles.we cant afford to play like that against a top side

I think the main thing about this game is that Woosha was outcoached by Bailey.

He kept the zone going despite the fact that the Dees exploited the gaps every time they went forward and flooded to block our avenue to goal.

The fact that we had a large amount of changes merely compounded that.

Very pleased with the efforts of Kennedy, Masten, McNamara and Cockie.

I think a lot of people arnt giving melbourne much credit. They seriously came to play. They constantly went down the guts and didnt back off from that policy all day, something the eagles heirarchy could take note of.They were hard at it all day.ok it was sloppy at times but the pressure was on all day and lets face it the Ds have had enough draft picks to start looking up.I agree hunter and rosa can go.I also agree that ball skills are probably more important than speed.of course both would be better.Lets face it st kilda have cloned geelong and its built on big bodies, hard running ,hard hitting direct footy. There is a smattering of genuine speed but its not the be all and end all.
