Fevola: I could have helped Collingwood win last year's flag

Yeah I agree with all you have said, and well said too.
Just we need something big to happen up forward and currently we are being killed. Our 2 big's have killed our season. As you said with all the hard work our mids and defenders have done is just not paying off with these 2 big geese. I read Cloke's interview from last week saying that he does what is asked of him every week. BULLSHIT!
Those 2 have seriously cost us this year! ;(
I feel your pain jaiboy, it's horrible to see our forward line become so dysfunctional, think of how our running half backs, mids and onballers feel when they pump it up there, only to see it come flashing back.

I know there have been a lot of Cloke bashing threads but to a certain degree they are right, an out of form Cloke SERIOUSLY unbalances our forward line, add to that a Dawes that seems seriously down on confidence and you have a recipe for disaster.

There really are no viable options at this stage of the year, so we sink or swim with what we have. Either the playing group finds something or we won't go deep into September.

One of the underlying problems with the team has been the lack of an EFFECTIVE 2nd ruck/forward option which has become even more crucial with the advent of the sub rule. Wood certainly doesn't fill our needs and our young trainees are still not up to it - especially full time. I would consider giving Cegs some serious AFL game time next year, but not enough to destroy a promising career and possibly give Wittsy a few games against the smaller bodied teams to give him a taste.

Like it or not we are in a transitional stage, if we hadn't had the injury run from hell and the Cloke's hadn't decided to cut up rough over their contract negotiations things would probably have worked out far differently, however that's all water under the bridge now.

It is what it is

Love what you have said. Thanks for your sensible imput mate.
What about bringing in Wits?????
Been seeing him lurking around the concourse and the bloke is a absolute monster. Cant wait to see him upset the ruck.
How many drops did bloody Dawes have on Saturday????? GRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrr.........
;(

I too like what I see from young Wittsy but to be honest I'm scared of pushing him too far, too fast. Jolly is a fair sized bloke himself and very experienced however he could barely hobble off the ground after the Sydney game where their rucks literally jumped into him at every opportunity. Have no illusions about the Sydney rucks they quite literally went about physically punishing Jolly at every opportunity to wear him down. I shudder to think what could happen to young Wittsy if he gets a caning like that - and if we play him in the ruck next year it WILL happen. Footy is a ruthless proposition and if the opposition see's a young bodied, inexperienced player being thrown into the ruck they will go the man hammer and tongs YOU CAN BET MONEY ON IT. Wittsy is going to be a monster but he isn't yet hard enough, needs at LEAST another pre-season after this coming one and some serious coaching.

Speaking of coaching this brings up my one criticism of our coaching stocks, we NEED specialist ruck and goal kicking coaches - they are specialist positions and NEED serious, targeted and talented coaching.

Dawes should have been playing in the magoo's long ago, but unfortunately we just don't have the soldiers uninjured at present to effectively replace him - Paine isn't ready and the best prospect Keefe is also injured.

like your comments. thought John Barnes was ruck coach this year? Not sure ruck coaching is the issue tho. Jolly will make a great ruck coach down the track ...

there has been abject failure at the pies to attract/develop ruck talen over the past decades (Witts/Ceglar will hopefully change this but jury still out). Blind freddie could have forseen Jolly ageing and Brown retiring last year - where was plan B?? (Dawes being plan A).

Agreed but this has been the case for a long time really. Thompson won the Brownlow then there was a gap with no real ruck until Moore and similarly another gap to Monkey and again to Jols.

I know that's ignoring Josh but its hardly his fault that rucks were thought to be downsizing to a lighter, more mobile player at the time of his recruitment. He was No1 draft pick but the ruck theorists got it all wrong. Fraser was put into first ruck duties and got monstered his entire career.

The thing is rucking has always been slightly neglected at the Pies.

jai Fev is washed up and has been for some time. Carmen was a ratbag of a slightly different flavour to Fev but both were poison, let it go man.
You wrote a few sentences to reply to my 3 words........ I think you need to let it go. Washed up footy players cant kick 8 goals plus every week for Yarrawonga! And if everyone let it go, there would be no BigFooty.

100 goals! He could be better than Cloke. No doubt

100 goals in a bullshit competition - I could probably kick 25 in that comp and I'm 5 foot 6 inches and 58 years old.

Get some perspective.
Of course you could of, cause you are a absolute champion! Maybe we should recruit you! TOSSER
Tell me how the Murray league is bullshit again?

I think the whole Fev argument comes down to whether he deserves a spot on our rookie list compared to the other options out there. Forget whether you like him or not.

What do we want to achieve from the rookie list? Its really up to Hine & what he sees out there as decent options. The rookie list has always been a punt to give a rough diamond a shot, an overlooked mature age player, an overlooked national draftee, an injury plagued guy coming good.

For some perspective on what we have had on the rookie list we just delisted Shae McNamarra - an American basketballer, Paul Cribbin an irish recruit, plus a couple of others who never got close to an AFL game.

If Hine sees some great smokie rookie prospects out there who could be 10 year players they get priority - guys like Mooney for example. However, if he finds himself scratching his head and taking a long shot then Fev would be in the frame. If nothing else he makes our VFL side a bit more potent. I hate the fact that our VFL side is finished already & not playing finals. If he can manage to play our style in the VFL (which is exactly the same as our senior side) then he is a viable option if not, he will keep us competitive in VFL and draw some nice crowds through the gate.

I am not saying recruit him at all costs Fev is a massive punt but so is every other rookie. If Cloke goes we will need to cast the net wide and have a plan A, B, C & D. Fev may be plan D but its better than no plan at all.
