Both great past players - stats are fairly similar:

Fevola - ave disposals 11, marks 5, tackles 1.4, goals 3.1, games 204
Modra - ave disposals 9, marks 4.3, tackles 0.4, goals 3.6, games 165

Ones career ended by injury the others lunacy - who do you rate better?

good comparison.

Would say Fev by a little bit but I remember a night game at football park in the nineties where modra kicked like 12? goals on SOS (the only other time I can remember him being dominated like that was once against plugger, so he is in good company). was absolutley unstoppable and would almost put them on level pegging on that alone.

I think a lot of people are voting Modra as Fev getting so much bad press of late. Fev was pretty bloody good, I think if we remeber him as just Fev the footballer rather than Fev the bloke the poll may be a little closer...

Modra was one of my absolute favourite non Essendon players to watch during the 90's, up there with Peter Matera and Wayne Carey. He was just spectacular when he was on. Its funny though looking at his tackles stat i think in the modern era his coach would have demanded more from him in this era but still an absolute gun of the highest order, on his day he could do anything and crowds loved to watch him.

Fevola was a very talented almost classical style full forward, had all the attributes, the pace, the accurate and long kick at goal, strong mark, just what any full forward would want.

That said Modra had a lot more presence and was a better match-winner for mine, Fevola's stats were also somewhat inflated due to never having any other half decent key forwards taking any goals off him at Carlton (you could argue that he got doubled team more as well because of this though).

Modra by an unmeasurable margin.

His status as a dominant aerialist too often eclipses his freakish ground level skills which bordered on Daicoslike.

^Think he gets remembered too much for his marking entertainment than his ability to pretty much do anything on the foootball field. All you have to do is watch his youtube highligh package to remember how freakish he was at soccering goals, not to mention snaps.

Case in point, the goal of the year where he ran and ran and ran, buttered up for multiple contests, skinned Wigney and finally snapped truly from a tight angle @ 3:42.

Maybe people are voting Modra because we were old enough to have seen all of his career. Freakish, was an amazing footballer.

was an ablett snr/daicos hybrid with those endless speccies and soccer goals.

Modra easily, hes in the top 5 most talented footballer i have ever seen. His ability was up there in the Ablett region.

Too true. He debut at about 24 and career over by about 30 at the most. Throw in 2 knee injuries. He was amazing had that freakish ability like Ablett did, and was a dead eye'd dick in front of the sticks as well.

Was such a shame that he missed both GF's for the Crows, he deserved a premiership medal more then any other Crow IMO. He put the team on the map in Australia and brought more people through the gates of Crow Park then other has or will.

Modra on football ability.

Also, as far as I'm aware no AFL player has reached the heights of celebrity in a city as which Mods did in Adelaide from about 93 to 97. He was like the Beatles or Elvis here, at levels unheard of for any domestic celebrity.
