i think i've played the last of fifa 12, i can't go 5 minutes without getting frustrated, rolling my eyes and putting the controller down. i don't even care that much about getting the platinum trophy anymore.

getting excited for 13 now, hopefully this will be the first time since the 2007 release where i can happily play the same fifa game for a year straight

FIFA for me just feels more like a complete game.

I still can't get over how shitty the PES UI has been for the last 10 years and that they just don't want to update it, ever! It's extremely unintuitive and confusing for a first time user and I'm flabbergasted they just don't seem to want to streamline it at all.

While FIFA doesn't have the greatest AI going around, it's still pretty damn tough to play against and I am always finding myself challenged. Nothing in the PES demo is really screaming out incredible AI to me either, I've seen just as many dumb things in PES with their AI as I have with FIFA. They make offensive runs better sure, but surely that's not all there is to it to say PES AI>FIFA AI?

I agree with NGF on most of his other points too, I don't like how the ball floats about the pitch in PES. Ball physics are a huge thing in a game where you're kicking that thing around for 100% of the game, and PES just doesn't do it right. Corners are clunky, free kicks are clunky and shooting imo is clunky too because of this reason (why are all the shots hitting the bar?!! 8 shots in the one game hit the bar, from both sides...massive WTF).

FIFA also has the copious amount of modes that are generally on a very high level. Maybe save for the Be-A-Pro, but Pro Clubs is very fun. It just means that there's far more variety that I can jump through if I'm feeling like something different, or just go the traditional manager mode if need be.

You can also say what you want about animations and graphics not having a huge affect on the game, but they can often be the difference between one piece of clunk in a game to another. Player control is really stiff and clunky due to the animation. I'm also getting incredible slowdown in framerate on the PES 2013 demo, don't know if that's something just due to it being a demo version, but it's horrible to look at and instantly off-putting.

Every year I play the PES demo and every year I'm still left unimpressed and with a number of issues that just don't work. And I just get that feeling of overall clunk, as I've mentioned with various things.

I'm not a huge fan of where FIFA has headed since the best FIFA of all time imo in FIFA 2010 World Cup, it's gotten a lot slower and just in general the variety of attacking options are becoming far too set to similar paths. But overall FIFA does way more that impresses me than PES does.
They both have good and bad things.

I love PES. I think scoring feels much more realistic. When you score a screamer, it feels like you have earned it but it doesn't feel ridiculously hard like in FIFA. The AI is pretty good for me making overlapping runs etc. I play on the hardest difficulty and it feels like the AI is intelligent but not impenetrable either whereas FIFA does feel like that (You have all mentioned this as well).

Fifa definitely has better visuals and cinematics although I love in Pro Evo it feels like the stadium is shaking and sometimes the replays show the players reactions to celebrating which they do in real life.

It would be great if they just teamed up to make the ultimate game.

I'm a massive fan of Be a Pro and My Player modes on just about all sports games I play, so very glad to hear some work is going into it this year with Fifa 13. Only recently re-purchased Fifa 12, this time on PC, and have nearly finished my first year as a LB in the A-League for Melbourne Heart.

I even take it a step further and turn down the volume for commentary, while turning it up for player chatter, crowd noise/chants, PA announcer, and sound effects. Seeing how any game's commentary is repetitive after a while, I don't miss it, plus the player chatter and noisy crowd make for a much more realistic Be a Pro experience IMO.

I also really like the way that your player's game rating seems to be calculated - It doesn't penalise you too much if your out of position for a while and seems to recognize "good" and "bad" play reasonably well IMO.

Very much looking forward to checking out how Fifa 13 builds upon these things.

Oh, and I saw earlier in the thread some people complaining about the AI being too perfect with passing and other things. A quick fiddle with the AI game sliders fixed this for me.

I'm looking forward to this years game. I haven't bought one since '10 :p

Is it worth preordering to get the 6 months gold packs for UT?

Short answer, no. With the money you save from buying without the pre-order bonuses at EB, you could use to buy your own, better packs at your own leisure. Fwoy and mcuzzy would agree :thumbsu:

Yep, save the $30 and buy a PS3 card instead, and get 6 packs straight away (if jumbos are available). Jag a goodish player, sell whilst value is overly high and start the ball rolling...

For those that want UT packs pre-order the standard edition from JB for $89 and you get 24 gold packs.

JB will probably drop the price to $79 on release so you'll be getting the best price and 24 gold packs for free (if a store has the game for cheaper you wont be able to price match and keep the dlc, last year dick smith had it for $69 so it was either save $10 or keep 24 gold packs)

One thing that I would love added but never will be.

I generally go through the season modes with a few of my brothers. At the end of each match a genuine discussion will happen (we're brothers so not always calm) about who the best player for the match was, it doesn't mean much but we will rib the worst player. Things like red and yellows cards, hogging, assists, goals scored, great tackles, penalty saves come up. I would love if FIFA could rate each user like they do with each player.

Would settle quite a few arguments.

I just pre-ordered this on jbhifionline.com.au for $79 delivered.

That's odd.

I just logged back into my order screen and its definitely $79.16 (incl delivery). So then I went to the game screen, added it to my cart and its at $89.

Funny thing is, I also pre-ordered the James Bond Blu Ray collection for $149 and now its showing as $199 on the main site.

Maybe they are presupposing their prices? Or maybe I broke their server. Who knows? I ordered it at 1.40pm for those interested, maybe they are doing little spot sales around that time, happy hour-ish.

Will JB deliver on release date or do they send it on release date and than you have to wait a day or two?

Whenever I've preordered on JB I either get my order day of release but no later than the day after.

A mid week game release doesn't bother me, I'd just want it for that weeks end.
