BTW, anyone interested in taking over from me in the BigFooty phantom draft????? Anyone is welcome to partner DaveW in drafting a couple of young guns:D

The draft is on Monday 17th November at 7pm Adelaide time (From memory)

Cheers

I don't know too much about the draft and who has entered, but if Nick Prokopek entered, would we be interested in him at all?

He's a strong foward who won the joint magarey medal as a Centrals player.

Ive got a bit of interest in him because he was an old scholar at my school. Quite a talented player who could have a good AFl career.

He probably hasnt entered the draft (dont remember seeing his name), however i wish he had because it'd be interesting to se where he goes.

I doubt he would attract a lot of attention. I think he was eligible last year and was not drafted (not 100% on this one).

Mark Mickan was on 5AA today and he said that we generally go for the best available player with our 1st pick and he thinks we will go the same way this year.

The feeling I got from his interview is that we will get a ruckman thats ready to play straight away and rookie list 1-2 to develop over the next 3 years.

I can't say I am impressed with this recruiting strategy. If a ruckman is any good what so ever he will not last until rookie draft. Are we after another Ben Marsh??????

Jamar and Jolly were both rookie selections, and Simmonds was the pre-season draft.

Wash your mouth out with soap young Stiffmeister for even saying those words!! :D

I think the Mickan philosophy is spot on. The first round pick must alays be used for the best available player.

There's just half a chance Fergus Watts could slide to our first pick. I'd be very surprised if our first pick wasn't used on one of Watts, Morrison or Gayfer, in that order, whichever is still available when our first choice comes up. All 3 of these are KPP's who can actually take contested marks, and god knows that we aren't too endowed in that area.

Whether we take a ruckman at #31 with our second pick would depend on what is around. If Hall slipped through then they would probably take him, but they have certainly played their cards close to their chest as to how they will handle the ruckman situation.

It makes you wonder whether they have done a deal with Ricky Mott that they will pick him up if possible.

I think you're right that they might rookie list 2 ruckmen as well. I disagree with you though about them not being any good. They've been working on this for some time and hopefully they'll have a pleasant surprise or two for us.

I wouldn't mind picking up Tim Schmidt from West Adelaide as a future in and under midfielder as Westies have big wraps on him.

I think a lot of people here uderrate Hall. I have heard all good things about him from a few AFL scouts. Certainly James Fantasia rates him highly. A 17 year old ruckman who is athletic, works his guts out, has great pace and is good below his knees. I don't see any reason why we wouldn't select him. He is worth an early 2nd round. There is not much difference between late 1st and early 2nd round. I would be disappointed if we don't get the bloke. If we don't I am certain Brisbane (18), Freo (19) or WC (20) would get him. He will not last until pick 31 IMHO. If he does I would be STOKED.

I have no problem with Watts, Morrison or Gayfer but our most pressing need at the moment is a young ruckman. Hall id physically better developed than any other ruckman and by the time he turns 20, he should be a regular AFL player. One scout actually compard him to Michael Gardiner type. THats a pretty big wrap in my book.

When it comes to this draft, we need, ruckman and KPP in that order.

I think I can handle it by myself now.

I've got a fair idea about what I might do with the first couple of picks.

The third pick (or fourth if we're going beyond the fourth round) will be the trickiest one.

If anyone is really keen to have an input, PM or me or get me on MSN. taciturn_boy@hotmail.com

If for some reason I don't show up for the roll call tomorrow, anyone here is welcome take my place as our draft rep.

As long as its not Ben Marsh:eek:

Triggy was on the radio today and he said we will select a ruckman with one of our 3 picks. He also said that we would have as many as 3 ruckman on our rookie list. Hopefully at least one of them turn out to be good.

I was impressed with a write up on draft this morning in the paper. James Fantasia said that we are going in with a plan of using 3 picks but we will reasses that if there is something that we really like when our 4th pick comes along. Same sort of scenario happened in 2000 when we got Johncock with our last pick.

Another interesting bit from the article is that ideally we would get a player with AFL experience with our 3rd pick. I might be reading too much into this but I wonder if we are hinting at Mott.

It will interesting to see how we go in the draft.

Just remember Dave, that anyone drafting Ben Marsh gets banned from the Crows Board for the pre-season! :p

You get the feeling we will go for the best tall player available with our 1st pick - be it a KPP or a ruckman. It would appear that the Crows are confident of picking up a ready made (AFL experienced) ruckman with their last pick - wouldn't surprise me if it were Mott. Good to hear that we are going to rookie at least 1 ruckman - 2 is reasonable - but 3 is over-kill!

Adam Grocke?

Someone compared him to Jonathan Brown.[/B]

Stiffy, earlier in the year you were really keen on this bloke. But I don't think he's rated a mention in the numerous phantom drafts I've seen.

I understand he got injured. But I don't see why that should massively harm his draft prospects.

What's the story?

I am sort of glad you are the doing the selections for us tonight because he would have been one of my smokies for the last pick:D

Adam has started the season really well and is a raw talent. He has a real crack but he was overlooked last year because he played very little footy due to Chronic Fatigue. This year before his injury his confidence was pretty much destroyed by Hart:rolleyes: . He then got injured and I thik CFS came back and his year was over. Depending how we go with our earlier picks (whether we pick up KPP or not) I would use a late pick on him.

Because he had a bad year injury wise he could get overlooked all together. Thats when we can Rookie list him:D.

Bottom Line: Really worth a gamble.;)
