If it was our decision I'm sure we would. The AFL are all about maximising profits so Victorian finals are always going to be at the dome or the 'g.

The only way we would have any chance of playing a home final is if we finished top but even then I doubt they would let us :(

It seems so stupid to forfeit the home ground advantage, and it was something we had to contest with for years, at no say of our own. It works out that in some cases we are the home team playing at the away team’s home ground.

1997 Qualifying Final is a prime example. Geelong finished second on the ladder, but yet had to play the 7th placed Kangaroos under lights on Sunday night at the MCG. There is absolutely no advantage to Geelong; in fact it works at our disadvantage for finishing second.

The fact of the matter is, regardless of where we finish, we will always be banished up to Melbourne to play home finals. Forget the redevelopment that has no bearing on where finals are played.

If there is one thing every Geelong supporter knows it is that Geelong will never play a proper home final. the only way this would ever happen would be if every other ground was destroyed. honestly dinga head you are a dumbass

He makes a good point Jacko   ( Feel your own Forehead first)

Skilled Stadium is our HOME ground, therefore when we get our home final we may choose where we play it because it our home game. But the fact is the AFL wont let us play 1 down here. If we earn the home final is there anyway to protest to the afl???

St Kilda will be forced to shift its finals games to the MCG, don't worry about that.

Geelong will probably get the same treatment.

We'll be pushed to the MCG for the bigger capacity and Geelong will get the Telstra Dome, I'd think.

Given the AFL sets the draw with little or no input from the clubs, this is how I'd see they'd like to maximise attendances.

If Skilled could hold...maybe...50k (?) it might be considered, but it's a bit far from Melbourne really, and there'd be heaps of wrangling to get finals away from there.

The ‘GABBA hosted a final in 1996, albeit before its major upgrade, and it’s capacity was less than Skilled’s will be after the redevelopment.

Crowd figures: Qualifying Final Vs Essendon - 22,003 and Semi Final Vs Carlton – 21,767.

Yes, I know that because they earned their home ground advantage, they deserved to play in their home state, but Geelong deserves their home ground advantage as much.

But, let's just cross that bridge when we get to it, shall we.

States have the right to host finals when finishing higher, not clubs. The only way it could happen is if all opening weekend matches are to be played in Vic and we are playing a poor drawing interstate club and the redevelopment is finished. And even then I can't see it happening.
