Smith has been getting away without criticism for his kicking for a few years now. He is inconsistent (has some horrible patches) and rarely nails the tough sideline kicks. In today's game, almost every team has a kicker who can hit those. Smith has avoided the heat because the Storm generally score enough tries anyway and 'But he's the Great Cameron Smith!'. He is definitely one of the poorest regular goal kickers in the comp.
