First test of the aussie summer

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

So much has happened since Australia last played a test match on July 8th , 2022 this year. (in a loss against Sri Lanka too)

Crowd expectations for Perth? Imagine, with the game starting on Wednesday and probably going to last around 3 days, expecting crowds to be really down for this one.

Will have a stab: 7k on Wed, 5k on Thursday, 3k on a Friday. 10:30am starts dont help it as well.

All tests that aren’t Boxing Day should try to start Friday

West Indies Test Squad (from Cricinfo 1st Nov 2022): Kraigg Brathwaite (C), Blackwood (VC), Bonner, Shamarh Brooks, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Roston Chase, Joshua Da Silva (Wicket keeper), Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers, Anderson Phillip, Raymon Reifer, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales, Devon Thomas

West Indies squad will do well to push any of the test matches to 4 days (weather permitting). Joseph the obvious danger and he will have to carry the load. Can see him being a danger against the Aussie top order.

Not sure if the Windies batsman have got the technique to bat out around 95+ overs against this Aussie attack.

Head hasn't made a run, did nothing in Pakistan or Sri Lanka....back on Aust pitches and still no runs....doesn't give much hope to those scoring runs TBH....I guess given enough chances, Head will score that 50 to secure his spot for the summer.

Surely time for Green to go to 5 now....let Head thrash away with the tail.....that's all he is good for.

Sure, if you're forgetting Kemar Roach, who has 48 wickets at 23 over the last 2 years. Guy is still a world class bowler.

Joseph might not even get in to the side. Holder, Roach and Seales have all been in front of him in Test cricket. Joseph has now played 22 Tests and is still yet to have an innings where he's taken more than 3 wickets. He's improving but he won't be carrying the load for this bowling attack.

The interesting note I made when I first observed that squad, was no Jason Holder. Joseph has bowled well of late, recent T20 World Cup, a couple of T20 games in QLD against the Aussies and CPL. I know the formats are different but just feel with that extra height and the bounce of Perth Stadium, it will suit him very well.

Holder was in the squad they announced and I can't see anywhere where it says he's been removed. Cricinfo seem to have it wrong.

I think we all think that about Joseph but he's not carrying the load for the West Indies bowling attack.

I"m going the first two days
Well lucky you but stay out of that scorching sun Westie or you'll crisp like my brother and I last time we sat in sun for a test at the SCG. Dead set we must've gotten thru a full tube of sun block.

We may see the emergence this summer of Jayden Seales. Just turned 21.

Labuschagne averages 54 from 28 tests and you want him dropped for 3 quiet shield games? Lmao.
Agree on Marnus.. Head tho on the back of a couple of swashbuckling knocks against the Poms last year. Selectors oblivious that in one match their attack was down two quicks, the deck had settled down and Leach was bowling nudies. An open invitation for a hitter such as Travis. He is averaging about @22 in state cricket this season.

What do you guys want? Marcus Harris won't play he'll be running drinks all series. If it was someone else you'd complain that they should go back to the Shield and have games under their belt.

Handscomb and Renshaw are stiff but at the moment they won't be getting a game in our best XI

If someone rolls their ankle in the warm-up, wakes up with COVID, etc, he plays. And he's proven to be a huge runscorer at FC level, and an abject failure at test cricket. He shouldn't be near a test squad again.

Beating up on weak teams is what he does best.
He wont be beating up on the pacey Windies attack on the decks chosen for this series.. the bouncy Perth Stadium plus the swinging conditions on dusk/evening tracks at Adelaide Oval. You need a solid technique for that.

Disappointing that Warner keeps his spot despite performing like ass, and same as head but oh well hopefully we lose against WI and RSA put some heat on the selectors and captain woke

Braithwaite definitely can

I can understand the argument re. Heads Shield form and subcontinent tours but diminishing his hundreds in the Ashes is nonsense. They were hundreds of high quality. The one in Hobart we usually see an Australian side make double figures as a collective on a pitch like that.
