Five Players Delisted

I'm sure we will all cheer on whoever gets picked up by another club in any of the drafts. I will be rapt if all of them are given another chance either with us or elsewhere. I am shattered that Ed's, Whitey's and Rossy's career were ruined by injury.
Scott and Norris are young and hopefully they tear it up in the VFL finals and find themselves a new AFL home. It's a brutal business the AFL.

Thanks for bleeding blue and white guys!
Respect :thumbsu:

Well said TC. I couldn't have expressed my own feelings better than that. I've had a bit to do with some of these lads, Whitey in particular this year with our common shoulder operations. This would be alot easier if we had a bunch of knobs infecting the list. The fact is there's not a bad bloke among them.

I wish all of them well, and still hope one or two can be retained as rookies if possible.

Worst birthday news ever :( might go shed a quiet tear now, going to miss Sex Ed especially
I wish all the boys the very best wherever they end up or whatever they decide to persue. Always hate this time of year but its gotta be done.

News from the inner scrotum suggests that Ed's knee is completely shot. The club was planning on having him on the list for next year, but his knee did not respond to treatment and it was determined that is was degenerative, hence why it took him so long to recover from the intial injury.

Ben Ross was definately stiff, was consistent in the VFL. worked very hard to improve his skills and endurance and from what I have seen he done an excellent job. Took him time to get a big enough body to compete at AFL level. with another pre-season im sure he could cut it at the top level. Could do worse in the rookie draft?

Norris...first round last year in his first year he was an emergency..wtf happened? elite runner, who just never came on as expected. still has a very slight frame, and never featured in the bests for north ballarat. Bit unlucky...but its a cutthroat buisness. Maybe a rookie?

Scott imo was a plodder. A good footballer, but a plodder. Excelled in the inside stuff but didnt have the frame to compete there at AFL level. Hope the knee heals and he ends up on a list in the future.

White. last year on the rookie list, obviously didnt do enough to get a spot on the senior list so he had to be cut. I think if the talent pool is as small as it is suggested I could see us picking him with a 4th or 5th round pick. Depending on trades ect.

Can anyone give me a bit more on Norris? Seems to be the only kid we've gotten under Lice Brewis that hasn't kicked on?

Would love some info as well, was hoping we'd at least get a look at him.

He's still only 19.

Well worth remembering. I mean, one of the phantom drafts has us using our first pick on a guy called Luke Brown, who is 19. Then you have guys like Richo, Pedo, LA who were no where near AFL standard at that age.

All that considering, it seems rough. But ultimately I think he falls victim to the talent on the rookie list. Daw, Pedo, Mullett and Delaney (probably White and Scott too) are better options for the senior side as of right now. Hard to justify having this sort of talent on the rookie list earning less than Chuck.

I hope we rookie him and give the 4-5 years that the likes of Ross, Warren and Urquhart all got to prove themselves. He could just be a late bloomer.

There are 3 things I really like about him; his foot skills, his endurance/athleticism and his size is good for a midfielder if he can add a few kegs. Just needs to find more of it.

He has never really played as a mid though, always has seemed to play as a wingman, lead up half forward for nth Ballarat. For a half forward he very rarely kicks goals, and for a wingman he very rarely get over 20 touches. Had the highest beep test in his year at draft camp, and is very capable overhead. My guess is he will be rookied.

Re: Lower lovers look away now

Like Vader after hearing Padme had died

Me hearing Ross is gone, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!

Re: Lower lovers look away now

It's a tough time for the fans but I think the club has made the correct decision and the de-listings don't leave the club short. The lads who have been de-listed have the best chance of any generation to get re-drafted with GC and GWS looking for good mature age players. If they are good enough they will make it elsewhere.

I really hope Hawthorn has a look at Ben Ross. Very surprised he was delisted especially in the current climate of GWS hogging the draft picks. He's still young.

Blokes who can play midfield/wing/half forward:

Adams, Harper, Atley, Wright, Speight, Cunnington, Greenwood, Ziebell, Mullett, Macmillan, Anthony, Wells, Campbell, Thomas, Bastinac, Swallow, Harvey.

Unfortunately for Benny Ross (and Norris) it can be argued that most, if not all, of these guys are ahead of him. He is in the unfortunate position of being off contract when others that we could get rid of before him are still on contract for 2012. This leads me to think that the club does not believe that they will get any interest in the likes of Urqs or McKinley during trade period and will keep them on the list for next year before cutting them loose if they don't perform a miracle next year.

Agree, it is always hard to hear players you hoped would get up get belisted " Ross & Lower " but the club needs to keep improving on the list and I think Pedo, Mullet, majak, make it hard to hold on to mids when we have a great list now.

I hope all the boys do well at their new clubs...........but not against North!

The archetypal beneficiary of the "footskills" mantra.

Urquart needs to write letters of apology to about 15 blokes that have been delisted during his tenure.

Pratt wouldn't play Thommo's role so not sure why we wouldn't move Pratt on. I don't mind Pratt, he just doesn't fit well with our current back six.

If we were to make a decision on Pratt and Firrito based on some of their one on one work against Dustin Martin this season, we'd have to delist them both without hesitation. On balance however, they still have plenty to offer a young side like ours, so I'd expect at least one of them to remain, and wouldn't be surprised if one of them was offered a contract by Sheedy.

Now that youve said that Urquharts really starting to bug me.
He needs to put up or piss off on his own accord.
Hes got himself a nice ride and i get the feeling hes taking the club and us for fools.

Yeah, I have no issue with any of our defenders individually, if you were to make a number of different back sixes you could find a role for them all but it is our particular back six and all of them playing together which doesn't work that well because we can't cover smalls well and we can't cover the big tall players well either.

We don't have enough quick, clean rebounding skill in the back six which is compounded by the fact our midfield struggle to receive and clear the ball out of a quality press which is why we have resorted to kicking long to the pocket at a contest in the hope the ball goes over the boundary for a stoppage.

Other than McMahon we currently have no senior defender I want to be anywhere near the footy when it comes to coming out of the backline through a press and that is the crux of our problem and a problem with the guys we have accumulated in defence. They were much better players pre-presses.

Lower is a good player, albeit dont know how his body is holding up. GWS could certainly do worse than pick him up.

The word I hear is that Ed is a retirement, not a delisting.

I guess we'll see if that comes out in the wash.

I would think that there'd be no chance at all of Spud being delisted. Holding his spot in he team may be another matter entirely.

If that's true that's shattering. Poor bastard, I hope that sends a message to the players that need to get off their arse and stop wasting the club's time. Part of me hopes he doesn't go elsewhere and become a success, but part of me, the better part, hopes he kicks arse in whatever he does. Hopefully the club can find a role for him.

:thumbsu: +1 here, all the best ed

 That is a bizarre post.

Should've explained myself better.

If those in charge already had their minds made up in delisting Ross, despite his form warranting a game, they didn't play him. If he had have played extremely well, there would be a large uproar when he was delisted, so thus they didn't give him the chance.

Just my $0.02.
