Fourth Test team

Jake Lehmann averages 41 in First Class cricket and is in form. Had an ordinary season last year, but off to a very good start this year. It's not unreasonable to be discussing him as a possibility.

I feel like he'd be better off being Jake Smith rather than Jake Lehmann, people don't seem to take him seriously because he's boofs son. His record should certainly put him in the conversation for the middle order, not saying it will happen but he's put together a reasonable body of work.

He averaged 28 last season...

What body of work do you speak of? The 2 Shield games this year? He has started well, how about he does it for a year.

The 41 he averages in FC cricket. More than most batsmen out there.

Not last season he didn't, he had a fairly average 2017, there is no need to rush Lehmann, he'll get his chance in 12 months time.

Mitch marsh was always going to play so glad he made some runs, he is likely going to to struggle in england when jimmy and co get it moving but right now all that matters is finding a way not to lose india when we will likely be without our three senior batsmen so his tons last summer were always going to see him in.

In saying all that outside of that one big ashes marsh has been a poor test batsmen and the credit he got for that ashes is all but used up by the start of the test series, he needs runs and lot of runs in the first few tests or his spot should be up for grabs.

Shaun should be no where near the side. Proven flat track bully/minnow basher. He's also 35.

Mitch's development has been stunted big-time by the selectors. Anytime he gets remotely in to form, they select him.He played very well last summer against a horrific team (even more so away from home) that had just lost to the WI at home but that's about it. Let him score runs (and bowl) consistently for at least a season so he can work out his game. He's only 27, so he still has time to redeem himself and more.

Actually, your argument with regard to Shaun falls flat with those statistics because he averages 44 in home Test matches, therefore he should be picked. Whether he should be picked for an away series is a different matter.

So if I'm guessing what a 13 man squad may look like a couple of weeks time...

Renshaw
Finch
Harris
Khawaja
Head
S Marsh
M Marsh
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Hazelwood
Lyon
Tremain
Just had a flashback of the 17 man squad for the first Ashes test in 2010-11.

Wouldn't surprise me if they did it again.

I would much rather see us get beat with a bunch of youngsters than get beat by the same old tried and true players who dont preform when the pressure is on. But the selectors will go back to the Marsh's. Hopefully the young blokes like Edwards, Sangha, Pocovski (I know he's not playing at the minute) and Phillipe keep making runs

Finch
Renshaw
Khawaja
Head
5-6 Pick a couple of youngsters

I wouldn’t be upset with either Handscomb or Burns ahead of Head.
You could really throw a blanket over half a dozen, but it's pretty certain Marnus will be dropped and Head wasn't too bad over there so I think they will look for stability.

Both Marsh boys will be under a huge amount of pressure and rightly so. Both have extremely poor records for batsmen that have played so much test cricket and it is only a matter of time before the selectors finally lose their patience.

Handscomb is an interesting one. His technique is always going to be a worry. He does have a test average of 43 and a couple of hundreds though.

SA are a barometer atm. The mere fact some of their batsmen are in and around test calculations makes it plainly obvious our talent stocks are rather thin.

That, and the fact Victoria are top of the Sheffield Shield table.
oooooooooh nice comeback :P
We just have a great attack that has no trouble dispensing with the shit batsmen all the states are producing is all.

Bowling depth is actually ridiculous for Victoria.

Wouldn't say it's ridiculous. Frontline attack is obviously very good but who would be next in line, Coleman? Who's never really done that well and then there's a few unproven youngsters.

Tremain
Pattinson
Boland
Siddle
Fekete
Coleman/Gulbis

Holland
Ahmed
O'Connell (unproven but had a good JLT Cup)
Grimwade (also unproven but has been the best spinner in the FL the past 2 years)
