Fourth Test team

I’m neither here nor there or Langer but he has a good coaching record, has inherited a colossal mess and is five ******* Tests in. People are raging like he’s responsible for this mess and not the one brought in to fix it. He needs an actual amount of time to see what he can do.

As for selections, as I’ve said, treatment of guys like Maxwell and Burns predate him, he doesn’t have carte blanche over the team (as much as we’d like our cricket boss to be the boss); some of his rationales sound iffy but we don’t know if he’s explaining away decisions he can’t control.
Does he have a good coaching record?

Based on the article langer's perception of your work ethic and ability fit into a team is still driving selection decisions. I don't necessarily think that is a bad thing, however work ethic is sometimes hard to judge and diversity is not always a bad thing.
I know finch has recently given up smoking and has much lower skin folds, do those things really equate to better cricket performances? I don't know the answer to that.
I do know that langer over looked players in the WACA comp whose stats looked far superior to other players selected. Those players were perceived to consumed too much alcohol and had poor fitness levels. I also know young players would leave clubs like Gosnells for Subiaco Floreat or Scarborough, not to get more opportunities but because everyone knew Langer had mates at those clubs and preferred picking players with similar personalities.

That sounds dreadful

At the end of the day though if Langer wants to play his favourites he must own the decision

Is Sydney really going to be a dry turner as it is said or is Australia trying to bluff India to mess up their team selection?;)

You ever played any other club sport????? That sounds like the MO in hockey or at least it was when I played. Politics and nepotism rife in most clubs.

In most businesses too, really.

It’s extremely hot in Sydney so you assume the pitch will take turn

In any case, Rohit has flown to Mumbai for the birth of his daughter and will miss the final test. Congratulations to RohitSharma :)

I read reports of one of Shami or Ishant being replaced by Pandya and Ashwin or Kuldeep being brought into the team depending upon the surface. In that case, the playing XI would be

Mayank
Vihari
Pujara
Kohli (c)
Rahane
Pant (wk)
Pandya
Jadeja
Ashwin/Kuldeep
Shami
Bumrah

I don't like the idea of weakening the batting when you just need a draw to win the series, but anything can happen with Kohli/Shastri. Be interesting to see if they announce their XI a day before like they did at Melbourne.

No need to change a winning formula imo - 3 seamers, one spinner. With Rohit gone I would prefer Parthiv to be the makeshift opener and Vihari back down to 6. Ashwin back if he’s fit for Jadeja. But yeah who knows what’s going to happen. Rohit going back is a plus though. Even if they swap him for Pandya I don’t mind that...won’t lose too much by way of runs and having an extra bowling option won’t be so bad.

Congrats by the way Park cricketer on the result in Melbourne.
Tip my hat to your grace in victory rather than being the boorish winner

Yeah I don't like the team composition being changed but with Rohit departing, I'm okay with Pandya replacing him. But I get the feeling Kohli is very keen to play Ashwin at Sydney going by his post match press conference and media reports of SCG being a dry turner. I think one spinner + Vihari is enough and we need 3 pacers but yeah can't predict anything about what Kohli and Shastri wants.

Thanks, I very well know the result can easily go the other way at Sydney depending upon the flip of a coin. Having watched countless defeats in Australia since 2000, I'm just enjoying the feeling of India leading the series with one match to go even if it's only for 3 days. Usually Sydney has always been a dead rubber or when we're chasing a win to draw the series.

A 3-1 win would put the exclamation mark on it though. Plenty to play for.

2-2 id imagine be a tad disappointing

An absolute disgrace the non selection of Maxwell,to the Australian selectors hang your head in shame. He has the ability to play test cricket and struggle to understand why he was dropped after the tour of India.Let him play the play longer version of the game in the lead up to the test matches and not confine him to shit cricket like the T20 1 day crap,Finch in a similar situation."HE WANTS TO PLAY TEST CRICKET FOR AUSTRALIA IN THE ASHES SERIES' and well done to him in giving the 1 day stuff away in India and playing county cricket in England next season.

Marsh averages 25 in Tests and opts out of the IPL = the devil

Maxwell averages 25 in Tests and opts out of the IPL = hero

Perception is a fine thing :) FWIW I’m not against Maxwell getting another shot in the whites.

I don't know if we have enough plane capacity to take all 4 million Australians who want to play test cricket for Australia in the Ashes series.

With Maxwell I feel a huge talent and if coached right could be the real thing in test cricket but just about gone now seeing his 30 years of age.We have lost him to test cricket because of the shorter version of the game and I feel that is sad as I rate test cricket as No.1.

Maxwell averaged 37 over his last 4 tests and was dropped

Marsh has averaged 7.4 over his last 10 innings and is vice captain
