I'm curious to know who freo would be willing to pick up with their #4 pick?

There has been talk that the eagles will pick up Judd at #3, leaving Polak available to freo. My rationale is that freo will not take him because they already have Pavlich, Longmuir, Waterhouse, McPharlin and Croad up front. Instead they will opt for a midfielder as Bell is their only "class" midfielder.

Thats my opinion at least, i wanted to know what freo supporters would do if Polak was still available at #4 and who would freo be likely to attempt to draft, ie a midfielder, a forward, etc.

I would suggest that if polak is available we will take him.
I have almost come to terms with the fact Pavlich will go home next year so Polak would be a nice replace ment and wont be getting home sick.

My order is
Polak
Judd
Sampi

What about Freo's ruck situation? There won't be any decent rucks around by the time you have your second pick at 52. Why wouldn't you go for Hale or Brooks who could ruck or cover a key position?

The maxim 'always take the best player available' whilst being tempered with the sides meeds, for mine rings very true.

Regardless of who is in the squad, IF Polak was judged to be the best player available at #4, he would be taken - as with the Croad trade this year, if he proves expendable in 2-3 years, you can trade him for high picks, or targeted players.

Now, as for who Freo will take - I find it hard to believe that the Wet Toast would actually pass on him, especially given the shortage of quality talls they have, so for mine this is a moot point.

Personally, I see Judd/Ball going #1, the other not taken at #2, Polak at 3, then leaving most likely Sampi #4 - but we shall have to see.

As for Pavlich leaving Sabre - is this another of your unfounded flights of fancy, or can you back that up with any sort of facts - just because South Aussie media and supporters discuss, almost expect it, doesnt measn it will occur - look at Chad Morrison this year, or previous years - always the gossip he is leaving, and where has he stayed?

But please, I know you aren't the type to just make something up, and pass it off as fact, so please share why Pavlich will leave! ;)

Brooks is also an option, but once again for mine - you take the best player available.

As muich as it has been ridiculed on the main board, a side with J-lo playing in the forward 1/2, Simmonds in the back 1/2 and Eastaugh selected as a ruckman gives you 3 options to pinch hit against different teams - I don't think this supposed 'ruck emergency' is anywhere near as bad as it is made out.

That said, Barry Brookes is _very_ impressive, have seen 5-7 minutes of highly edited footage at a draft discussion at the club a few months back, and he sure looks the goods - for mine, from what I have seen, he was more impressive than Polak the way he can stamp himself on a game.

I honestly think that WC will take Polak with their thrid pick, if he hasn't gone already. Why would they not, when it is their forward line that is the most suspect?

The whole "take the best player available" leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, I'd prefer "take the best player available that the club needs"...and, let's face it, we need someone with pace that can play in the midfield...

I agree, kuepper, that we don't *need* Brooks, as such, but I have a feeling that we might get torn apart a few times in the ruck next year, without Clem.

IMHO, I reckon Sampi is the one to go for.

I wouldn't be surprised if St Kilda upset the applecart a bit and took Polak at no.2. They've lost Hall and Loewe hasn't much left. With plenty of quality midfielders still around by the time they have picks 5, 13 and 21 why wouldn't they go for the best key position prospect.

Unfortunately thats a reality a lot of eagle supporters have been trying to avoid and even ignore. If St.Kilda were to take Polak it would put the eagles into a very awkward position, where they will probably pick up 2 midfielders with their picks #3 and #6.

I certainly hope it doesn't happen, but you never know.

I never said that He was going.
Nor did I argue that he was going.

Its my opinion that Pavlich is going , this comes from Media reports and speaking to people that know him.

I would definitely take Polak if he was available.
I think that sampi is our next best option.
Yes we need a ruckman but we also need a skilled speedy midfielder just as bad to make up for hte loss of Heath Black.

Sampi is the one for me

You stated, in the quote above, the FACT he was leaving - thats all I was asking - your opinion, and FACTS are 2 very very different things my man ;)

Scal: I do hear what you are saying, however if a quality tall is a 30% better player then the best small going (I know that is very hard to actually quantify, but I hope you know what I mean) then for mine, we are stupid not to grab the best player - as I say, they can always be ontraded in future years - just to do anything else is to cut ourselves short IMHO.

Shall be very very interestting to see which way the cards fall, thats for sure!

Kuepper - Why have a go at Sabre when he is being a realist about the Pavlich situation. It is a FACT that Pavlich wishes to return home. As you know he wished to be traded to play for the Crows in 2002, but will honour the LAST YEAR of the Freo contact. He is refusing to extend his contract with Freo & will leave next year, regardless of whether Schwab chooses to trade him or not. However, I'm sure Freo will be keen to get a good player or pick in return. Similarly, the Crows will find it hard to hold onto Kane Johnson who is keen to head back to Melbourne next year (once his contract is up). Players do get homesick, just some more than others. Pavlich has close ties with his Adelaide family & his dream is to play for the Crows. You can't blame the guy for that!

That's funny - I have never seen, nor heard Pavlich say this, and I support the club he plays for - can you show me where these 'facts' occur by chance? Or are these facts merely a figment/hope in your imagination?

He is refusing to extend his contract with Freo & will leave next year, regardless of whether Schwab chooses to trade him or not.
Yes, he has said he will await the end of the year to make a decision, of which I am well aware - and no, he definately did not ask to be traded this year - once again, show me where?

Players do get homesick, just some more than others.
Agreed, no doubt there.

Well personally I can - the crows? ouch! Anyway, I am sure the last game of the year maybe helped Freo's cause - as I say, please show me where all these facts you speak of are - as I have definately not seen them...

Kuepper - Pavlich has never hiden his desire to come home to play for the Crows. This is a FACT & it has been mentioned in interviews. It's just a matter of time (ie. next year) when he plays for the team he grew up baracking for as a kid. I can understand you do not wish to loose a player of his calabre, but the FACT is he is homesick. As I mentioned previously I would also hate to loose Kane Johnson, but it is more than likely he will get his wish at the end of 2002 to return to Melbourne. No doubt Pavlich has enjoyed his time at Freo, as he was playing with his teenage idiol in Mods. Beating us in last game of the year is pretty insignificant in the scheme of things, as the Crows are far more likely to see finals action. Any way, only time will tell, but I know which outcome I would put my house on!

you little ripper!! Im glad Port got him then!! And at #15 too!! Bargain! Acording to what ive heard he is like a Fraser/Lade - is good in the ruck and can go up forward and kick 3-4 goals too.

Im sure Freo will be happy with Polak..but now they have seemingly an excess of forwards.

As for Pavlich....whats changed your tune Sabre??? 3 months ago you were "there is no way Pavlich will go home, he loves it here, he hatest the crows he doesnt want to leave"....now you are saying its a given he is gone??

It is a fact Kuepper that Pavlich's dream is to play for the Crows. I think its a given that by the end of his career he would of ended up at the Crows...but whether thats this year or in 5 years time who knows.

I really do like the way you write FACT in caps, as if it makes it more important. :)

Annyhow, I know for a FACT (see it is catching) as I heard it with my own ears, at the after match funtion after we flogged the Camry's in the last game of the year Pavlich say he was looking forward to the team improving in the next few years with him being a part, etc etc.

He sure didnt say 'im out iof here in a year' nor has he EVER said in an interview, he shall be leaving - I challenge you to show me once where he has said he will leave at the end of the next year - just once.

Yes, he may well go back to SA - but it is not a 'FACT' he is homesick, once again, credit your source please - I have spoken to him personally 2-3 times in the last year, at after match functions, am friends with people around the club, and I have never, ever heard this - whilst it may be accepted becauze the SA media beats it up to be, I really would liek to see where HE has said it.
Any way, only time will tell, but I know which outcome I would put my house on!
Willing to put your house on it? great, I'll take you up on that - decent place is it? Never mind, ill just rent it anyway - so do we have a dfeal, your house against wwhether Pav will play for the Camry's in 2003? ;)

Yep, you killed the pig with that deal Macca, got a gem at 15 - well done.

This is true, but whilst I disagree, I do admit there is a chance Pavlich could leave - so there is insurance there, but for mine you have to take the best player available - and that we did.

Now that is some common sense there Macca, nice one. I agree, with any interstate player (Josh Carr for example, or Tyson Steiglein as another) you run the risk of them wanting tio leave - and this is the same here - he may well leave one day sure, but I am seriously doubting it will happen end of 2002 - we shall have to see!

nah when freo drafted the guy he said his dream was to play along side childhood hero tony modra now he has done that
whether he goes back to adelaide will pretty much depend on the next season and whether he is loyal or not just like leigh brown was loyal

*cough*

just got home from a night on the turps, and i must say I find myself quite the fking nostadamus - heard the news while out and had a fair few beverages to celebrate.

Choke on that SA fans - and you too Sabre.

BTW Kane, PM me for the title to your house - glad to receive it young man.

Sabre must be getting tired of always being wrong.

All I've heard from him over the past couple of months is how Pav was already gone, followed by a multitude of pretend trade deals he cooked up with Port supporters.

Good to see some loyalty from an interstater, btw. Hopefully Judd follows suit when his contract comes up for renewal.
