I wonder how much our contract offer to him has come down over the last 6 months or so. I would have gladly paid him $6m for 5 years then, not sure he's worth that now.

His own fault really. If you're going to delay contract talks then you're taking the risk that you hold your form.

If his form doesn't improve by the end of the year and a Vic club offers him big money, we should seriously consider letting him go. If we can get two first round draft picks, it's pretty tempting.

Crazy talk from everyone here.
Fyfe was immense during the first month of the season. Was easily in the best players in all of the first 5 matches, particularly huge in lifting the team to its first win against WB, but equally in the big losses to Geelong and Port.

He needs a break, and to be honest an extra week off before the bye isn't a bad idea, but in terms of his effort and application, his footy smarts, and his leadership, he remains unrivalled in the team, and is still a massive contributor. 7 tackles, 5 clearances, 14 contested possessions today in-and-under. A terrific goal on the run and some nice link-up play on the outside.

The club has had enough trade stuff-ups over the years - are we seriously thinking of letting a Brownlow Medallist who has consistently been in the top 5 players each week go?

But pay isn't just on 'current form'. Previous form, leadership credentials, future prospect, how important they are to the team etc all matter too. And Fyfe delivers all of those.

Ask the person who ask for two first round pick to put his post in the main board now and make it bold and see the reaction from other club bf opinion .Kelly and Martin value is way higher than fyfe now ( if I were fyfe I will stayed at freo for what the club offer)

Some teams would back there medical staff in to get the best of Fyfe. If he were to leave, even on current form he'd still get at least 1 mil.

Is not what freo believe , but what other club believe , i don't think another club will do a O'Meara if fyfe form dont pick up . Fyfe need a rest to refresh .

In that case you are in a win win situation . Keeping fyfe at freo is the priority not getting the BiG If two first round pick .

Course it matters, but he's currently playing like a 600k a year midfielder. Good but not elite. The reason he'll end up with more is all of the things you mentioned. But to command well north of $1m a year you need to be elite all of the time.

If true, there is 0% chance of him leaving on exposed form.
