i would take fyfe, because of his versatility

he is very much a classy mid in the hird mold imo

i watch a lot of him and think he doesn't get anywhere near the coverage deserved in the victorian media

it's really hard to say.

you'd say fyfe is pretty far from his physical peak, where martin only just has some tuning up to do in terms of his physical capacity.

martin is having a little bit more impact on games at the moment, but they're both having awesome seasons for 2nd year players.

i'd take martin, he just has that ability to break tackles and kick long with accuracy. i can see fyfe kicking 40+ goals and averaging 20+ disposals a season when he develops completely though.

Prolific ball winner, can kick goals and has amazing overhead abilities. Also a larger ceiling in terms of physical development.

That said I expect Martin to be recognised as one of the games better mids within the next couple of seasons.

Martin will probably be better, but sick of all these Martin threads. I'm happy with Fyfe and the pick where we got him. Based on what pick we got him and some Freo bias, chose Fyfe. Would not trade him, loves freo.

tough one, but it strikes me as a similar comparison to if someone asked you who you'd have taken out of Hird or Cousins early in their careers.

You wouldn't be shattered with either, but given that, I'm going for Fyfe

Close so far for sure. Both could be anything and are fantastic players at such a young age. Fyfe appears to have more upside, but who knows. Both are very damaging. Fyfe does remind me of Hird though..

Wish we had Fyfe too but Griffiths could be very special. If he stays injury free and gets anywhere near his potential we have a beauty.

The two stand out 2nd year players this year. Wouldn't be disappointed with either. Though when you watch Martin play live, it's "special". Martin for me.

If you'd troubled yourself to actually watch Martin play you might be a little less confused yourself. Your use of the careful phrase "one of the better mids" interests me. I'm sure you'd assess Matt Priddis as "one of the better mids" and it's obvious to 99% of the footy world that Martin is already a better player than him.

I wouldn't swap Fyfe for anyone but if I had to then it would be Martin.Big,strong and will be the player to lead the Tiges up the ladder..
