Gameday: Essendon vs Geelong

Atleast we found out how far away we are from the top, and boy is it a long way!

Hope their confidence doesnt suffer too much! Our game plan relies on some risk taking which we got smashed in today. Hope they don't go back into their defensive shell in response.

Thats the key. Believe in the plan and just stick at it and the rewards will come.

So you think very thing is just dandy at Bomberland after a 99 point thumping, I'm so proud of that score line?

Get real! only the coaches name has changed.

Geelong are easily a 10 goal better side than Essendon. To add to that they played well and kicked fairly straight. Plus we played poorly and kicked terribly. 99 points seems like a logical outcome given the performances.

Its a new start for the bombers. With so many young players we should expect some erratic performances for a while.

Remember the Grand Final last year.

Port are in Trouble. Sack Williams! Trade Cornes! Trade Westhoff! They're all shit.

We did go up against the top side didnt we?
ur a sore loser mate. put a sock in it

Not a sore loser mate, just tired of losing by massive scores with no end in sight, try taking the sock of your head and see how bad we lost and played, as I've said before denial is our worst enemy.

Err?

Our last 5 games:

Lost by 99
Won by 55
Lost by 8
Lost by 27
Won by 10

Where are these consecutive massive scores we've lost to?

Sure you're not confused which team you're supporting?

I couldn't agree more. The minute we were under the pressure the kicking turned to shit (Lloydy not even managing goals he would normally get with ease)...but at the same time, a lot of the younger players still managed to hold their own for lots of the match.

It's always disappointing to lose, particularly by such a large amount, but I go away thinking what a great side Geelong are, not what a shit side we are. Hopefully the bomber lads will feel the same, and bounce back next week. (And FFS it's Carlton...if we can't beat them I may start to worry :p)

We were smashed today and it showed us how far away we are from the best. Younger, smaller bodies couldnt contend with the matured bodies of the Cats. Dempsey got injured, hamstring again it seems, which is bloody frustrating. Ryder was good. Favourite player and it was pleasing to see him beat Mooney. Im sure the players learnt a lot from today and it will hold them in good stead for the future. No point on dwelling on the game. Bring on Carlton.

How good was Ryder's contested mark vs Mooney towards the end of the first. I rekon he should of had a run up forward at some point today. Our forward line didn't function well at all today and he could of been the needed spark.

Mcphee needs to hold onto the ball and stop getting kicks which have no effect on the outcome of the game

He always looks to kick laterally when he should be kicking it forward. He needs to play on more quickly instead of stuffing around.

What you said is a fair call, I know it take time to build up a team, the problem is we have been saying this for 3 + years now and we still have the same problem, when we lose, we wrap up our players in cotton wool, blame it on rebuilding, my fear is we will become the Collingwood of modern day football, they had this same approach for 20+ years, we are building up a team well done boys you gave your best, maybe next week.

If this culb is to get back to it's best it and the members/supporters have to realize that it has a problem, it's it overall stock from the board to the players, just making money is not enough, a football club is about winning games manly and we are not winning enough of them.

Believe me I appreciate your frustration. We have been hearing the old cliches of team rebuilding etc. Sheedy was bringing some youth and pace to the club but without giving them real game time, giving them junk time isn't rebuilding so from that regard we really weren't rebuilding, this year is our first year of actually rebuilding. We lost 3-4 years by drafting top-up players or hasbeens and playing them instead of putting 10-15 games into players like Andrew Lee, Jay Neagle, Tom Hislop etc.

I think KP aren't really our big problem as we have gumby and Neagle in the wings (doesn't help that they are both injured atm). Also I thought Laycock was average today up forward dropped alot of easy marks, Hille should be the one up forward with Laycock dropping back.

100% agree. I don't rate Hille as a tap ruckman and I don't rate Laycock as a forward... swap their roles!

If you've been an Essendon supporter for 50 years then you should remember round 20, 1992 versus Hawthorn, 160 points... 27 matches later what happened?!?!

I honestly can't believe that Knights tried to take Geelong's midfield on and try and beat them with pace. How can you not at least man up on guys like Bartel and Ablett. I know its good to give young players the experience but c'mon, you have to watch out for your opponent on the rebound.
The amount of times i saw Geelong players run free and have a paddock of space was not good at all. How about when Bartel had no one around him and just casually strolled in as if it was training and slotted one through from 50.
Accountability was a big emphasis with Knights and Essendon showed none yesterday. We have to make sure that we play accountable football, especially through the middle.

Bombers overawed by Geelong

Many Bombers were overawed by the Cats and lost their focus.
Guys the Cats are only human .

Not to be intimidated by them again you must :
Run hard and straight at the ball and dont give up front spot to them.

You are just as good as them but your nerves got the better of you and you lost your ability to work hard and play as a team .
Too many of you didnt give 120% when going for the ball and the pressure on the Cats was non existent and they did what they liked .
I am sure you will be more accountable next time.

Dont be bluffed by them again.:thumbsu:

Stop believing everything you read about yourselves in the media stating how good you are .
