I don't thing Geelong as a club is arrogant, but any club that plays finals 8 years in a row and wins 3 premierships is entitled to be a little arrogant. Fremantle may experience it one day.
Yep a long way in the future.;)

Rivalries tend to bring out the worst in all clubs' supporters. Can't say I don't notice a rise in poor behaviour from my fellow Cat fans when we play sides such as Freo and Hawthorn, as opposed to clubs we have little history with (e.g. Adelaide, Melbourne, Richmond, you get the picture). It's the same story with Freo fans and West Coast/ourselves.

The Fremantle relationship is an interesting one. I reckon if Hawthorn had been wearing blue and white hoops yesterday (or if Fremantle had lost, or both), the bile over the Hodge 50m penalties, the Fyfe frees against etc. would have gone on for several pages. Instead, Hawthorn and Fremantle supporters were doing everything short of exchanging phone numbers on here after the game (might have happened via PM).

Perhaps you were correct about the time of the incident, however since I have not seen it nor heard any Cat fan "trot" about it in nearly twenty years it seems more important to your view of the world than it does to we Geelong fans.
No, this is complete bullshit.

The Colbert "mark" of 1997 is part of Geelong folklore (and football folklore, in general.) Probably because it was a knockout final and it was such a great, cleanly-taken mark. One of the all time umpiring howlers which reinforced the cliche about white maggots needing to get their eyesight tested.

It has been referenced many, many times on these boards by various Geelong fans

OK, so here's my theory (I know everyone was waiting for it...)

I really don't care at all about what Brisbane, Doggies, St Kilda and Melbourne Supporters are like. Could not give a shit. That's probably because our teams aren't in the same stratosphere at the moment. I dislike Hawthorn and Freo supporters who, coincidentally, support teams that are up and about. My dislike of Collingwood is fading.

Geelong has been at the top a long time. And it seems that the supporters that most dislike us are the Hawks (I do find their board amusing reading), Fero, more recently Port, and to a lesser extent Sydney. Carlton seem to increasingly dislike us but to be honest I'm not too fussed by them.

I don't want to call it tall poppy syndrome, but when you're at the top for a long time there's a lot of people who want a shot at the title. Can't help but think that's all this is.

But if you come at the king, you best not miss. ;)

Well, even though it's been seventeen years and for some inexplicable and unrelated reason the hype has died down, I have heard it, and had a good laugh each time. You've forgotten the pain - maybe you're just not a hardcore fan...
Yeah seventeen years ago it was an incident. Perhaps that is when you heard it and had a good laugh, nothing funnier than seeing a shocking umpire's decision - whatever gets you off - apparently.

Tall poppy syndrome.

Look at this umpiring decision on Friday night. Troy Menzel took a dive in front of goal and the EXACT same thing happened as Christensen's, the non-officiating umpire from 50m called it a free, which turned into a shot on goal. I haven't heard the Menzel one mentioned once post match, yet the uproar over Christensen's is enormous.

What's the difference? Only timing. Those who get roped by media idiots in believing that 1 free kick (of 46 paid on the night) has such a huge impact on 2 hours of football are just gullible idiots who don't know a thing about the sport.

Once again, Geelong won and the masses didn't get to see an underdog win. Oh. Didums. Poor old pathetic Carlton fail again... Sad, so sad.

Most people I know don't have an issue with Hawthorn or Sydney winning the flag only Geelong

Ouch...touched a nerve...sorry...maybe you should get those repressed memories seen to...

Anyway, I'm signing off guys. It's been fun getting stuck into Cats supporters, but the last couple have been a bit grizzly (and missed my first post which was very complimentary to the Cats), so we're probably done here. Enjoy Saturday.

honestly, how bitter are you about 2011 and what has transpired since that grand final?
I know I am still bitter about Hawthorn winning the 2008 flag, fortunately we had more success after that day which helped over time but I have no doubt you and many other Collingwood people forever hold a grudge because of 2011.

Not bitter, we couldn't beat you guys 3 times you deserved it. I saw a flag and I'm very lucky and grateful.

What I didn't like is leaving with a minute to go, and having Geelong supporters abuse me saying some disgusting things for no reason, you had it won just be gracious.

Never had any issues with any supporters even at Carlton games, I cheer and that's about it, I know a few Geelong supporters there is one bloke who isn't cocky and arrogant, and he has stopped going to games because the Geelong supporters do his head in.

Bigfooty has not changed my opinion on majority of Geelong supporters.

I think it is the way Chris Scott carries on from the coaches box. I sometimes feel like I want to get into the TV and punch the loser in the nose. I am not a violent person and I don't like violence. But it drives me nuts when he carries on like that. I hate them just for this reason alone. I must say I admired them when a humble Bomber was coaching (with a sandwich in his hand).

I call bullshit, sorry. There is just no way this is true.

I don't think its fair to judge a coach when they're in the box.

You don't sound like a reasonable person and your 'hate' is simply not justified

Have you heard Scott speak? Makes a hell of a lot more sense than Bomber.

Haha -yep pretty good reason to hate the team.
But my personal favorite so far is Geelong are hateable because they were 'lucky to beat Freo'.

Lol no way it could be true it's about Geelong supporters the most respectful classy supporters in the league

This isn't 2007 any more
