I was at the presser. Lyon was referring to the question posed by the journo as being disrespectful, not Geelong resting players.

Yeah i wasn't quite sure who he was directing his reply to. It seems more valid that he's referring to the journos than the geelong football club.

Lyon has been taken out of context in the print media ..... at no stage did he say Geelong were disrespectful.

He said that what Geelong does has no relevance to Stk ..... then followed up by saying that anyone who did purposely rest players was disrespectful. There's a big difference.

that quote will be posted on the Geelong bulletin board in the rooms...no doubt..

Will be purely used as motivation for the cats...just about the dumbest thing lyon could say...but hey if he wants to win his premiership in July thats fine, we'll take ours in September when we're cherry ripe

You can't read can you??

Read up and you will see that the comment wasn't related to the Cats.

FWIW, teams that need to use something like that as motivation have little to no chance of succeeding.

Totally disagree - you could argue about mis-interpreted, or that it just came out wrong, but not the context. That he didn't clarify his comments about mis-interpretation suggests that he meant exactly what everyone is inferring.

Unless you were there Jim Boy, which I'm sure you weren't, you have no idea as to what he was referring to. I can guarantee he was referring to the question posed by the journo and thus saw no need to clarify what he had said.

To see exactly how quotes and comments are taken out of context you should head over to a Bomber Thompson presser, film the entire thing then watch the news to see which bits they play and how they cut it up to achieve an angle. Its interesting stuff. Will change your outlook entirely.

Who gives a toss what Ross "I'm as boring as bat sh1t watching grass grow" Lyon says.

In the words of Tom Harley "WE ARE GEELONG", and we'll do whatever the f#%k we want, including disrespect the rest of the comp by "resting" players.

The Cats know what there doing, we've learnt from last year. Let's just sit back and watch the saints make the mistakes this year

The Saints didn't have a six day turnaround like the Cats.

Time will tell whether Bomber's strategy is a master stroke. Let's face it there wouldn't be too many AFL players without injury at this stage of the season, so the week off for Ablett, Scarlett & Co could just be the difference come 09 finals.

Quote taken out of context, though I'd doubt Ross and the boys would give a shit either way.

If anything this thread shows the cracks within the Geelong supporter ranks are alive and gaping.

Yet your signature proves your fascination with our club. I'd change it, your going to look very stupid

Isnt it good to get St Kilda supporters fired up.
They may think the pressure is on us this year to win the flag but with one flag spanning a pathetic history and a list full of high draft picks, knowing what their supporters are like there is going to be mounting pressure on this side come September.
We will wait and see if they can maintain the pressure on the open surrounds of the MCG.

Absolutely they are carrying a similar pressure to what we were in 2007. Whether they can cope with the pressure is debateable. So far they have had a dream run with injuries, the draw and the fact that they have played so many of their home games at Etihad.

Their depth is very questionable so it would only take a couple of injuries for them to really feel it. That and the question of whether they can reproduce their game plan to the MCG leave more than a few worries for Saints fans. You can feel their anxiety already. "Is this finally going to be our year?". Can they finally shake off the miseries of their past?

yep - how did you go that year?

so you're hoping (praying) we have injuries?

oh, now it's the MCG prayer!

Fact is the pressure is on you - we don't 'expect' a flag - we're just enjoying the run. We're confident we can give it a shake, as can the doggies and the cats, heck maybe even the pies. So like you, we're about a 1 in 4 chance! Good luck!

Would never hope anyone got injured. Just my opinion of you're list. You don't bat deep in my opnion.

Ah you may not "expect" a flag, but you sure as hell are praying for one!! I know because I was in 2007 and I'm not even religous. Good luck to you too son.

mick horan anything to sell a paper and you bunny.s fished in . what was said , are you going to rest players for the sake of it he replied no we need to improve and it would be disrespectful to our up coming teams crows hawks dogs and dons . nothing was said about the cats although they tried to push it

i agree with ross that it would be hugely disrespectful to the opposition if any team were to rest up fit players.

but since your guys were genuinely injured you can hardly take offence, can you. can you?

Read this quote again.

"What Geelong is doing is irrelevant to us. It is disrespectful to other teams and the competition. You've got to understand if you're off two or three per cent in any game you are going to lose that game."

What's that second word? Wouldn't be "Geelong" would it? But nah, nothing was said about the Cats.
