Geelong rorting the system

I keep hearing stuff about the farms being a big motivator. To be honest I think it's more the lifestyle geelong offers. Who wouldn't want to live the easy going country lifestyle only being 1 hr from town.
Perhaps a 'reverse COLA' policy needs to be in place for these circumstances.

Interesting observation
Marshall apparently wants to look into getting more money from Saints.
If not will consider to go to Geelong who are famous for underpaying players.
Especially ruckman according to their supporters.
How will they make that work 🤔
Marshall's current deal has been frontloaded and is now on the back half of his deal (assume 400k to 600k)

That's quite affordable, hell Stanley would probaby be on a similar wage.

Yeah but paying 3x first round draft picks for free agents such as Cameron and Dangerfield is a little bit like receiving a priority pick for tanking. If you really think hard about it.
You didn't trade a lot to get Patrick Dangerfield. Pick 10, pick 28 and Dean Gore for Patrick Dangerfield.

Had Dangerfield been a free agent a year later in 2016, crows would of demanded 2 of those 1st round picks.

You got a fair bit for Tim Kelly though

We did. We made out like bandits from it. Two firsts, two seconds in exchange for Kelly and a third.

So we’ve got:

- Richmond getting Lynch for nothing

- Richmond receiving not one, but TWO priority picks: Brett Deledio, who a) helped them return to the finals, and b) was then traded to GWS which was turned into the trade for Josh Caddy who played a key role in the Tigers flags.

- The second priority pick of Alex Rance helping helping win flags - which came only a year after the Tigers finished 9th with 11-11 record. Oh yeah they really needed that.

- obvious tanking

- ex-player going to AFL rules committee back to running his club

- rarely leaving the MCG

- getting the equivalent for Shai Bolton that was given for Gary Ablett Jr: extortion, essentially

Is it too late to change the thread title?
I don't defend Richmond often but come on.... This is a bit steep even for you.

But for the stuff you mentioned..

- Richmond got Tom Lynch for nothing. Fair enough. He is a Victorian and a free agent. I mean other Victorian clubs that were decent such as hawks, cats or magpies could of got him "for free".

- Richmond priority picks. Brett Deledio. Solid player. But could of gotten someone like Buddy Franklin. Wasn't Richard Tambling chosen over buddy Franklin?

I thought Richmond trading picks 6 and 24 to get Josh caddy and Dion Prestia was the actual trade?

The other priority pick you mentioned was Alex Rance. That was a priority pick but not an early 1st. It was an early 2nd rounder. Pick 18 or 19.

Alex Rance played in one Richmond flag. That was 2017. He didn't play In 2019, he did his knee and was out of the whole 2019 season. He retired at the end of 2019. He didn't play In the 2020 flag.

- we can definitely argue about the tigers 2019 flag. Last 6 or 7 games in a row before the 2019 finals, they played at the MCG and won all of those games. One loss in that period means no top 4 or Double chance. If the advantage is there, you take it.

It’s called facetiousness mate. Given some of the wild theories being perpetuated about how this means this means this means this means this means that Freemasons are controlling Geelong controlling the AFL, I’m just showing how easy it is to paint the same picture even if you have to go the long way around to do it.

And in doing so it is actually funny how Tigers fans - some at least - don’t think that anything ever fell their way to help them. Who cares where Rance was drafted. He came at 17 - 12 months after they had an 11-11 season - and they got him for free. He didn’t win them the other two flags but he helped turn them into a powerhouse. Deledio was a priority pick. He helped take them from a basket case to a team that made finals each year in the lead up to 2017. His trade allowed Prestia to arrive, and the raft of picks (24 and 64 were what they used for Caddy and 56 in return) etc that were swapped with GWS, Carlton and Richmond and Geelong ultimately led to Caddy joining Prestia at Richmond where the two were reunited - it was no secret the two wanted to play together again. The rorting Tigers played the long game with the Deledio priority pick there….

Not sure how controversial that would be.

They front loaded the contract so he's not getting much on current dollars. Asking for more money is likely just matching the extra money we'd give him to move.

The crows were free to demand our future first in 2015. We traded it for Lachie Henderson that year. First ones to do it!

History made as Blues send Henderson to Cats for future draft pick - https://www.afl.com.au/news/201838

Moving players around during games?? #rort

A year of planning to adapt two Irish no-names to tagging + tagging/defender roles? It wouldn't surprise me if the directive came straight from AFL house, and the Irishmen are probably cyborgs developed by tagging and funded by Stanley's underground farm activities.

You never went to bay 13 back in the day didn't you?

While your club was winning flags between 2007 to 2011, there was this massive poo fight on bay 13 in debating on David Mundy vs Brett Deledio on who was the better player.

No one knew Richmond was going to use pick 17 on Alex Rance.

There was a sliding doors moment. Richmond was originally gonna trade picks 2 , 18 and 19 for Chris Judd.

Pick 2 ended up as Trent Cotchin and pick 18 was Alex Rance.

Talk about a sliding doors moment there.

Brett Deledio wasn't the reason tigers made 3 Elim finals from 2013 to 2015.

Next thing you will tell me that Port Adelaide legend in Troy Chaplin turned Richmond into a power house when he was on Richmonds list from 2013 to 2016, after leaving Port as a free agent in 2012.

Chaplin was a free agent at the end of 2012.

Deledio was All Australian in 2015 so he played his part and was second in the best and fairest for Richmond that year…. But no I agree he wasn’t the reason. But this is the logic we are dealing with here from the cooker demographic.

And the stand rule isn’t the reason the team with a winning percentage of 63 during 2017-20 has a winning percentage of 67 after it. Wow. What a difference. And almost all of that difference comes down to one 16 match win streak we went on in 2022.

Two players owning farms (remembering even Richmond themselves had one player living on a farm - Dylan Grimes) doesn’t equal a concerted property rort. Every geographical place in the world has some sort of real estate market, not just Geelong. What’s stopping Collingwood offering high rise apartments on the cheap to lure Dan Houston from Adelaide? Oh right - nothing.

Again this is the level of logic being refuted so I’m just happy to try and dredge up equally absurd things

Can't argue with the facts presented in this thread. Geelong is the only club not rorting the system. Case closed, feel free to wrap this one up

Hmm they want us to wrap up our investigations. They’re feeling the heat. The end is nigh.

When we were winning flags there were so many geelong threads on the bay that we would never have time to read richmond and freemantle threads.
