Just need someone to give Cameron's knee a whack with a hammer each game to keep him rooted in the F50. No roaming Jerry, bonk! :hammer:

Oh! You said knee.

The issue against the giants was that we were missing jhenry AND kolo plus Stewart AND Lawson. Plus no Stanley meant we couldn’t use blitz in defence.

We have a lot of flexibility down back, and can cover a lot, but having all those guys out meant that we were paper thin and relying on COS and Guthrie to do jobs that they aren’t best suited to. And also asking SDK to lead a defence which he is not quite up to at this point in his career.

Just getting jhenry and Lawson back this week meant our structure was far better in defence because everyone else (SDK, COS and Zuthrie) were able to play in their preferred roles. When Stewart and Kolo come back it will be even more solid and at that point we will likely start resting the blokes who have carried a heavy load to date (particularly COS and SDK).

Agree we were missing most of the backline but add just JackH in that game…with all the others missing ..and I think its enough to change the result.

I believe so.
Dangerfield doesn't finish off his work like Cameron does from full forward. Will never be a consistent set shot for goal. He creates carnage like no other forward in the game but that doesn't necessarily equate to net positive.

Perhaps Dangerfield may need to take a backward step and realize this is Cameron's team and he's not the main man?
I think Danger’s set shots this year have been a lot better. I haven’t seen any stats on it.

I thought Neale was good. Lots of influence in a number of roles and positions on the ground. OH at least made position which he has not been doing, and nearly took a few hangers

He is still developing , 30 games in and just short of 23 and when he does contribute I think its generally good but he can and will get better and eventually I think will be more consistent in his contribution.

I agree.

I guess my point was if either jhenry or kolo or Stanley (or maybe even Stewart) was available against the giants we would have won.

I heard somewhere that Lawson's sister designed that guernsey. I think it looked good. Maybe a bit too much red- Geelong are not really a "red" kind of team- but nice and crisp with plenty of detail without looking too cluttered.
Yes, nice design. Like the red on it.

For me, though I kept thinking they all were wearing wireless battery packs on the backs of their shorts. :)

It is a beautifully designed jumper that , with cultural significance attached to it and very easy on the eye
- and why dont they make it the official Geelong clash jumper . it would be simply great . For example when Geel play Collingwood then it would be a good clash jumper to wear

Geelong have had some horrid clash jumpers , tacky designs , cheaper versions Carlton looking things

You could make a strong argument for Blicavs being Wells best ever draft call.
Will be a 300 gamer. 2x BnF winner and around the ground Mr. Fixit. As a steeplechaser.
I've been wondering if, at the end, his career and its impact on the game itself would be HoF worthy.
The club's obviously, but the game itself?

I thought he was a liability going into the season but he has really given our team impact in a tagging role.

Huge credit to him and the coaching team. He has a huge edge as a tagged in that he has power and explosive traits that can have him go with powerful midfielders and nullify them. Most taggers don’t have explosive traits like mullin does and end up in that role due to athletic limitations, where as mullin is the opposite, he is in that role due to a lack of footy nous but has the athletic skills

That was evident with his kick into the forward line where we had two forwards split to choose from, and he pops it to Poort defenders. He can kick a country mile, and more accuracy will come with experience, and less panic when he obtains the ball through speed at midfield- so that's exciting.

Different era, much less defence being played back then.

I doubt mick was seen as much deep in defence as Dempsey is.

Not to disparage mick, who was an all time great player of the cats.

Dempsey is something special.
Remember this hypothetical from #D BRIDGE, March 2024? Some interesting perspectives back then.

After reading + understanding the concept of Meeza + Lawson’s creation of Geelong’s Aboriginal guernsey + their family affinity, Lawson’s pride in his goal celebration summoned pure joy.

In addition to Lawson’s natural talent, we have a young, Aboriginal man who shares pride in diversity. He engenders + I think inspires acceptance + recognition of all.

So proud of Geelong’s Aboriginal players
🖤♥️💛
Good post kitty. Btw bring back your Marie the cat image! Me and my wife are Disney nuts

I think he'll coach this coming week against Freo and then be done

They have the bye in round 12, so making the change after next Saturday will give Carr 2 weeks until his first match as coach

Koch won't sack hinkley and port won't sack Koch. So no chance ken goes before the end of the year unless he quits on his own.

I actually would love to see Neale get up the ground and run around more and keep Cameron deeper for longer periods.

Neale has the tank to do it and generally uses it well.

Let Cameron loose up the ground for 5 mins per quarter as that will make it harder to predict when he will do it.
Exactly
Neale at CHF for periods of the game is high on my list.
Has all the attributes to be a Stoneham type IMHO

Ken ain't the problem. He's been herculean carrying shit lists to finals.
Top 4 last year with Lord, Georgiades up forward and Ratugolea down back. Shit at both bookends.

Perhaps true but after that long at the club the list is as much his responsibility as anyone's.

Bit of a hot take here, but does our forward line operate better when danger isn't forward ?
I think it just might. Before there was Hawkins drawing most kicks, but he and JC, and OH gelled well. Dangerfield is a huge entity there, creating a lot of gravity around him and drawing attention of the kickers. I think JC will be the main target, but Neale and OH will have a chance to cook a bit more. And please, MF kick to the 'launch' area or to leading forwards. Just make it a rule for a quarter at least.
Dangerfield will be more missed I feel when we need the beast at stoppages or around the ground, rather than in general play.

At the end of the day Port had given up and we were dominating them. If Dangerfield was 1 out in forward 50 in such circumstances he likely would've kicked a last quarter bag too.

Despite his erratic form, we should remember Cameron had kicked 4 goals in 3 other games this season. He's 2nd in the Coleman now. He is prolific under any circumstances.

The argument that Dangerfield is taking some of Henry's limelight makes sense (like-for-like role even if Danger plays it very differently), but not that he is responsible for other forwards having off seasons. I'm certain each of those forwards would say exactly the same and mean it.

Stengle for instance is still finding plenty of it inside 50 but has simply hit a rut with finishing off his work. Henry's set shot kicking has fallen off a cliff. And so on.

They have to take up the slack, go for their marks, and not worry about getting in his way. Saw Brownless kick bags in the absence of Snr. Danger has been brilliant, but maybe as early as 2026, or likely 2027, they will be without him.
Long winded reply but the answer is hopefully, yes.

Why would there be apologies?

He played in the one position that makes him AFL standard. Playing anywhere else (like last week) and he's a headless chicken.

If we give him a tag role every week then go for your life. Send him to Richards next week.
Taggers deserve their own thread, really.

Lingy hinted on Front Bar this week that they sent him into the tagging role to teach him about AFL footy, as he was a FF before coming to the club.

We've sent Corey, Blitz, Bartel, O'Connor, Atkins and now Mullin into the tagging role and they all improved their game and moved on to other roles afterward. It's what this club does, and it does well. We're basically treating Mullin like we did Atkins- who started defensive forward, then back, then tagger, now the heart and soul of the club in the midfield.

Mullin is clean with the ball, tough as nails, fast, has a big tank and doesn't stop trying. Give him a year in the role, and see what happens. I think it will work, because it seems to have worked for others and then some. He's doing his apprenticeship in the back line and tagging- but he's cut out to be a midfielder I think. Give it time.

Not really..
2021. 7g 8b
2022. 21g 15b
2023. 41g 20b
2024. 37g 18b
2025. 8g 4b

And gws can take a hike. Why do they show up against us and then this?
And what really s***s me about this as a Canberra supporter is next year will be five in a row when the AFL schedules us to play GWS at Geelong, meaning just this year as one of five when we play GWS in Sydney.
