Geelong vs pies final should not be at the mcg.

Lol, you're talking s**t. The AFL members will have far more non-Collingwood supporters than Collingwood supporters.

The number who actually get a ticket to the game will be a totally random distribution. You just hope it will be all Collingwood, but for all you know they will be all Carlton supporters.

Like I said, not so good at maths, huh?

The AFL members is like sitting in the Pies cheersquad for their finals that don't involve another big4 club.
Last lot of figures published they had 12K members compared with 4k for the Cats.

The MCG and Victorian Government have an iron clad contract to host the AFL Grand Final each year until 2059. This contract is worth upwards of $500 million. How do you propose to reimburse or compensate those parties if the contract is broken?
That's up to the Victorian government to figure out.

2059-2021 = 38 grand finals, so they'd get a guarantee of the GF every 2nd year until 2098. Still get what they paid for.

Contracts are only agreements on paper that can be changed/amended/terminated by the parties in mutual agreement.

No it's not, the contract has been signed. If the AFL and other parties (other stadiums/states) want to vary the contract it's up to them to reimburse or compensate the MCG and Victorian Government.
Nah, like I said - it doesn't have to go that way.

My preference is a breakaway comp, administered by representatives from each state. Leave the Melbourne clubs and Victoria to enjoy local league games at the MCG.

For the MCG and Victorian Government to agree to amend the contract one would assume they would want to be compensated accordingly for the resultant loss of revenue.

OK, now given the AFL owns the IP to all of the clubs and has exclusive contracts with most of the major stadiums, who is going to play in this league and where would matches be held? Who would fund the league? What sponsors/broadcasters would be on board knowing that none of the existing teams names, mascots, jumpers etc can be used?

The AFL can own all the IP it wants. They don't own the clubs. And I would love to see how well they fared if they tried to. We are fans and members of our club, not lawyers at AFL headquarters.

Daresay the contract gets a revamp when the Shane Warne Stand redevelopment gets organised. Would be a chance for other states to get a foot in, also a chance to extend the existing arrangement well into the future.

Won't stop your club trying to benefit from their supporter base merchandising at the next showdown.

Won't stop Collingwood preventing you from making a profit from that merchandising, just because they have so many precious members.

I'm actually all for you retaining a connection to your history and culture, and giving your long term fans a chance to wear the traditional colours in a game that has zero impact on Collingwood. Just pointing out that the AFL is really still the Melbourne FL.
You know what, you're spot on and I appreciate your support of Port Adelaides plight.
Still piss funny that you play at the G though, sucked in.

Nah, I'm used to it. We will prop them up - I just love sticking it to the entitled sooks from Melbourne. They have a stranglehold on the game but they are still so insecure.

I honestly think it would have been a bad situation for the locals of Geelong if this one was scheduled at Kardinia.
Our ground currently fits 22k, let's say 15,000 are Cats supporters. That would have left 70,000 Collingwood supporters at the local pubs and that would have been a recipe for disaster.

If you Geelong supporters are fair dinkum and really want it changed so you get a home ground final instead of home state final, lobby your club to threaten a boycott of the AFL unless they change the rules.

Tell them you won't be playing another game until the rules are changed, let's see what the AFL do.

For the MCG and Victorian Government to agree to amend the contract one would assume they would want to be compensated accordingly for the resultant loss of revenue.

Parties typically included terms for variations to a base agreement in the event of change of circumstances, unless it was a circumstance that could not have been reasonably foreseen (such as the covid impact). That would likely include compensation for the AFL not meeting its minimum finals matches obligations.
