with the pies all over the cats like flies on shit i cant help but feel geelong is going to end up a better team. to be honest they have been plodding along and just relying on their occasional brilliance (and what brilliance!) to get over the line. now that they're getting a reality check i think they'll have a serious think about themselves and really turn it on for the rest of season.

next week we are going to have a bloody hard time unless the boys really turn it on and hopefully draw on the confidence on a win over freo. geelong will be hungry and out there to prove their worth (which is A LOT).

they'll also have ottens back! this could get ugly very easily!

:(

yeah it had to be the week before they play us!! and it had to be collingwood to beat them.... sweeeeeeeeeet

I was thinking exactly the same thing.......Geelong on the re-bound..... who wants that?????

But on the other hand, when you really think about it..... Geelong have not been at their best the last couple of weeks at least......average indeed.

There are 2 teams going to play & at this stage, Carlton have a 50/50 chance

NIKE...... JUST BRING IT! :thumbsu:

nice plug ;)

...Or the boys could take some confidence into the game knowing that Collingwood destroyed Geelong and we beat Collingwood...

funny game is football.

Geelong were shyte tonight, and they have quite a few players who are nowhere near 100%. Guys like Ling, Johnson and Hunt are not fit at all. I'm not expecting us to win next week, but if Geelong play anything like they did tonight, we won't get smashed. In fact, we might even push them.

Hopefully all listed Carlton players were watching tonight.

Listening on the radio, it wasn't that Collingwood were better skilled, they were harder at it, they wanted it more and they were willing to throw their body on the line.

If we had the same desire and attack Collingwood had tonight we will make Geelong's life very hard as they play the free running softer football and the hardness tonight exposed them.

Geelong IMO have been very average this year, 3 of their wins have came against 3 of last years bottom 4 in RFC, Ess & Melb. They only fell over the line against Freo who are very poor this year, they only beat PA by 9. The other wins against StKilda who are average and Brisbane and Sydney both of which were at Skilled Stadium.

So they haven't been impressive.

In saying that, if we got a flogging i would hope the boys responded.

Certainly the boys could take some confidence from the fact that it wasn't spectacular football Collingwood played today. It was all about man-on-man contests, constant pressure & working for each other. In other words it was hard working football, that any team can play if they are prepared to 'roll up their sleeves & get their hands dirty".

The talent in Geelong's team far exceeded that of Collingwood, but most of the Collingwood players were prepared to do the hard things, which bridged the talent gap. Sure Geelong are going to be stinging after tonight's loss & you would expect them to bounce back, but the fact is this loss has been coming for a number of weeks & now might be a good time to come up against them, with a slight chink showing in their 'armour'

i'm not 100% certain but if i recall correctly, the last time the cats got done by a decent margin (so not the port loss) was against the roos early last year. again, if i recall correctly they came out the next week and beat the tigers by a few thousand. oh dear.

If we bring our "A" game i nterms of pressure around the stoppages then we could push them.......and should smash Freo.

If we bring our B game which was on display last week then both Freo and the Cats will boost % against us.

Goes to show - if you put he pressure on and tackle hard; any team can beat any other team on the day. I think the cats loss is a positive for us, especially if we can have a confidence boost against freo tomorrow. I will be there. Carn the bluebaggers!

Surely, with BigFooty logic, if Collingwood are a 14+ goal better side than Geelong, and we're a 4 goal better side than Collingwood, we'll beat Geelong by 18 goals? Isn't that how BigFooty works?

Geelong are still a very good side. Chapman was out tonight and BOttens is close to returning (Thompson said he was 50/50 for the Coll game). Two very good players who I can seeing playing next week. I won't be tipping Carlton next week regardless of how well we play tomorrow. We are a young side and thus will be inconsistent. A win against Geelong would be beyond awesome, but a competitve defeat will be disappointing but nothing to be too upset about.

A thumping....

Well I don't want to think about that, but seeing as I am, it will probably effectively end our chances of making the finals. We would be below break even by at least 2 games and %.

But lets focus on beating Freo tomorrow. Beating sh*t teams when we should is what will earn us repect.

I'm very scared about next week. Could be a fair thumping. But then again you never know. Let's just measure ourselves by the ones we should win. Like tomorrow. Go blues.

+ Like us, Collingwood prefer to dispose of the ball by foot
? Collingwood went from averaging 51 tackles to having 85
* I think Bentick, Judd and Russell are our only players who average over 3 tackles so everybody is going to have to start getting in the habit this week

Gibbsy doesn't seem to have maintained the same ferociousness at the ball since his steller game against the Pies unfortunately. We need consistent efforts right across the ground.

it can be done
just watch our game and learn from it
obviously pressure and tackling is the key
we had 15 guys get 3 or more tackles tonight with 6 of them getting over 6 tackles so thats where u have to lift

obiously if the geelong we all no come out after this belting then i apologise on behalf of collingwood for waking up a sleeping giant

Yeah, thanks a bunch for that! :(

Interesting fact that could happen again.

1995, Carlton drop 2 games mid season, both were big wins for Swans and StKilda...the only two games lost for that year.

Maybe (ones hoping) that sort of thing could repeat...
