I'm looking forward to this because it has real potential. Unlike other adaptions there is no single protagonist or canon story to draw from so they have the freedom to write completely original stories. However it can either be a hit or really poo. I think all they need to do is capture the vibe and that's 75% of the job done. IMO the most important ingredient is going to be the dots of dark humour. It can't be too cheesy or take itself too seriously.

Looks like a solid cast, and sets look to be pulled from the game. As long as they get the tone right, should be fun. Trailers can be deceptive but it was a good start.

Walton Goggins and Michael Emerson are exactly the kinds of casting I would expect for a Fallout universe, so that's a start.

I'm not expecting much but yeah it can't be overly serious. The series has always bordered on dark comedy.

Now watch the COD devs get their revenge by making their next campaign 90 minutes.

89 minutes longer than the average CoD player's attention span.

Here is a really good look into indie dev if anyone is interested in this sort of thing. It's really fascinating as it goes into a lot of the tools used and stuff, as well as created vs store assets which is a hot topic at the moment due to notorious asset flipping scams.

I've been "involved" in indie dev for around the last 5 or 6 years. By involved I mean active in indie communities sharing ideas with people, helping others work out stuff in their games as well as help with things myself and getting advice. Gavin is pretty known in indie circles. I've bought a few UE lighting courses from him on Udemy over the years and it's so good to see after all these years he has finally brought his idea to life. It's what we all want to achieve but it's a long journey with lots of failure and false starts that for anyone to reach the finish line is an achievement itself, not to mention the success he is having with Choo Choo Charles

I love that he mentioned the GDD. This is SO important. Too many beginners try to start making their game blindly. Mine is still a single almost blank page. It was great to see his approach even if my current project is different. He produced a concept trailer first then spent two years working on the game. Where as I'm still working in a mostly blank sandbox just getting my proof of concepts sorted first. All of my logic is built into modular components so realistically once that is done my game will be infinitely scalable in very little time.

This is such a fun subject that I love talking about with people so if anyone wants to know more to get into it themselves then just hit me up. It's an awesome time to be an indie dev as there are some really good tools to make quality products. It's not just about 2D games with sprites in Unity anymore.

I'll likely never part ways with C64, NES, Mega Drive related tech/games......

But I've been slowly reducing the clutter that is my 360/ps3 collection. Excess controllers, accessories (Kinect, Rock Band/Guitar Hero items etc) and some unwanted games. Cleared a lot of space, and made some extra $$$ (sold another full Rock Band band kit recently).

Lol some of this is absolutely gold. There are some lines that are completely redundant and you can just imagine the programmer sitting there, pulling their hair out for probably days to get one thing working and just trying things. When it finally works you don't care why or how, it just does and don't touch it just in case it breaks.

Also at 1:24 the boolean bPoliceDontReallyCare. The different wanted states in the game must return a bool that turns on/off (true/false) different police behaviours. Somebody has just decided that the lowest wanted level is "Police don't really care" lol.

Quick question. If Sony or Microsoft went digital only and decided to no longer do physical releases, would there be job losses in the retail industry as far as specialised game stores go (like EB, etc). Got into a heated debate with someone over this and curious to know what people here think.

EB have Zing and while they would probably close stores they'd linger around selling merch and hardware. Still need to buy the consoles, peripherals and stuff somewhere. No dramas for places like JB as they sell other stuff. Keep an eye on what happens with Best Buy and Walmart in the US. Best Buy are phasing out physical media (except for games) starting this year and Walmart are doing the same but extending it to Xbox games too.

This is purely anecdotal and I have nothing to back it up with but I feel like retail in general though is in a downward decline. We hear about record sales but whenever I go to my local Westfield it feels like it has never really recovered since the pandemic. Same day and next day delivery has probably fuelled that too.

EB has been dying a slow death for a while. However, as dwwaino said, they do have Zing, which is basically what they make money from these days. As has been known for a while, EB don't make money from new sales (they do, but not "profit" like they want) and the second hand market is where they really make bank and have for years. However, obviously if they don't have physical sales to go off then I think EB as a concept would definitely die. Same goes for any store that predominantly makes their market from physical sales.

It'd purely be up to these retailers to pivot to be able to stay alive, which again, is why EB have really ramped up on the Zing side of things.

The good...ish? Side to this, is I don't think we're heading to digital as fast as it seemed just yet. Any share and stakeholders in this being the future need to see consistency, proof and a solid base for heading all in. Right now it's just not absolutely proven. And while, it definitely will head there eventually, I still think we're a while off.

A lot of people think too insular when it comes to these things, as much as there's predominant markets that will set the trend, you still have to think about smaller markets that keep the bottom line held up. And I think those bottom markets aren't stable enough to stand behind digital only just yet.
