60,000 people at a game that means nothing but tradition.

Carlton Vs Collingwood playing for pride and bragging rights and we pack the MCG out. Honestly I think the crowd was 50/50 divided and the atmosphere was electric.

This is the number one AFL Blockbuster game, Pies Vs Blues 1st, Pies Vs Dons second, Blues Vs Dons 3rd, Pies vs whoever 4th, then the WA and SA pretend grudge games.

So? Essendon regulary got 60,000+ at the MCG back in 1997 (the last time we missed the finals).

Coll/Carl Blockbuster? Perhaps once upon a time ... but now? Hah!

So?

Ever thought the reason for the large crowd last night was due to it being the last opportunity for supporters to see their club play in 2004.

LMFAO!!

This game should have been played on a Sunday afternoon. Two bottom teams fighting for nothing but pride (I use the term loosely). Friday nights should be reserved for the premier teams.

But their fans should be used to meaningless games after this season. Neither team has looked likely as a final contender since round 1. No decent draft picks, TPP looking already full, better get used to it cause 2005 aint going to be any better.

But at least Carlton supporters can see their team on the way up. Might take some time but the graph is at least positive. Collingwood though are headed towards the bottom – with a bullet.

While these teams wallow for the next couple of seasons though, at least the fans of both clubs can rejoice in their bi-annual blockbluster for "bragging" rights and reminisce about days long gone. The morons will turn out in their masses and console themselves with the fact they beat another bottom eight team.

Meanwhile, the decent teams will get on with September.

Collingwood, Carlton ; YEAR OVER

Darling when St Blunda can draw a crowd call the AFL and ask for a Friday Night game.... Thats right you did and you couldn't fill Tesltra Dome against Essendon could you.

Now enjoy the Finals liltle blunderas we just needed to take stock and re-load don't get comfy, you don't belong there remember your just visiting. The big two will be back next year.

Pretend? Showing your true ignorance here! Have you ever been to a showdown? or been in Adelaide in the week of a showdown? Although they may not have the history as the big victorian clubs do let me assure you the rivalry is there as was evident in the bust up at the Ramsgate.
I suggest you go to a showdown with Footy Park jumping and the crowd going nuts and then tell me that its pretend!

That is what a true rivalry is, even when the teams have arguably nothing to play for the crowd still turns up and the teams still play like it's for a spot in the Grand Final. I wouldn't expect the supporters of other clubs bar Essendon to understand the feeling going into these games.

Please don't call me darling. My stomach's not that strong.

We haven't had trouble filling stadiums. We've filled TD against an interstate team. Sold it out in fact in record time. Filled the GABBA is record time too. And if you hadn't noticed, your mob has been bumped from the season opener against the Lions in favour of a team that may give a contest.

Now enjoy the Finals liltle blunderas we just needed to take stock and re-load don't get comfy, you don't belong there remember your just visiting. The big two will be back next year.
Yeah and I might start wearing a skirt. Big Two - LMFAO

Read it and weep!

Saints join 'blockbuster' club

I especially like this part :

The Saints will also receive a huge financial boost by playing the Magpies twice next year. Lowly Richmond have had their blockbuster status diminished as they will only play Collingwood once in 2005.

The Tigers have played Collingwood in round one for the past three years, but will open next season against Geelong.

Hope you enjoy Kadinia Park and footy on Sundays! :D

I hope also the AFL still schedule us for the two byes against the Tigers!

Carlton and Collingwood have had the greatest rivalry in the VFL for more than 100 years. St Kilda only rival for the past 40 years has been bankruptcy

You mustn’t have been there. It was a warm, dry night, the last Friday night of the season. The bars at the ground were full. There were lots there who are not supporters of either club. If the game was played on a Sunday afternoon there would have been less than half that number present. It was a poor standard game, the endeavour by players from both sides lacked desperation. The crowd was quiet by the standards of matches where the result matters. Most of the players were already in the pubs for mad monday. To say that those two teams played like ”it's for a spot in the Grand Final” is just rubbish – unless you work in the marketing department of the AFL.

Christ you guys crack me up.

Question :1. Out of Collingwood, StKilda and Carlton, which one will turn (another) loss this year?

Question :2. Which of these three clubs is about to receive a hand out from the AFL?

Question :3. Which of these three clubs last went to their supporters with a tin rattle?

Q1. Not one of those 3 clubs will turnover a loss
Q2. We have cashflow problems. Any fast growing or reboundig 'business' has trouble with it
Q3. St Kilda. Save Our Souls campaign. Thankgod my $2 kept your club alive

Wrong, wrong and wrong.

Not very bright are you? No wonder you place so much importance on beating Collingwood.

from that Sun Herald article

The league's biggest crowd-drawing club this season, the Saints have been rewarded for their new-found form and attraction in next year's fixture list, which is set to be released in about five weeks.

Yep, Im sure all the bandwagon remarks will come out etc, etc.. but at least the AFL is paying attention for the first time in years..

For the first time in a damn long time you are in the September action and you have the temerity to get all sanctimonious & god almighty.

Heaven help you if your poop are disposed of in straight sets, there will be a queue a mile long reminding you of this sm@art@rse comment.

And what's the chances of you adding to that solitary premiership cup anyway ???
