WARNING TO ALL VISITORS TO THE GEELONG BOARD. You are - for the most part - welcome to discuss the current list management & trading situation at Geelong. However, this is our board, so be respectful of the home board posters & don't inflame arguments (make your points succinctly and move on). And if you're just here to troll, then don't bother or you will be enjoying a holiday

If I was Wells I would be telling Cameron that the only way he gets to us is via the PSD. We do our best to make the deal as hard to match as possible but acknowledge that there is risk that he could end up anywhere for 2 years. Just cannot see any club being in a position to match when this strategy become clear at the very end of the trade period. It's then his call to stay at GWS on current package or find another home or back the PSD approach in. If it doesn't work we can bring another player after seeing them over the summer and Cameron at least gets 2 years on very big money. And yes, hope it makes life even more challenging for GWS who should have done a deal and not thrown away the comp pick.

Name me one game that Miers has delivered in a final or a big home and away game, he's the opposite of chappy and Stevie j

Are you seriously comparing a 46 game, 21 year old to the likes of Chappy & Johnson?

Entering 2007 and the start of our premiership run, Chappy turned 26, had been playing for 7 seasons with 117 games under his belt, while Johnson turned 24 has 5 seasons & 67 games under his belt

Also important to remember that both Chappy & Johnson were 2nd round picks & Miers a 4th round pick

Not a good comparison

James Hird was a sixth round, where does it matter where you were drafted.

I've never seen either of those guys pull out of a contest any time in their career, go back to when we played port in a final at Adelaide oval where Stevie J in my opinion took as good as mark as Nick Riewoldt, flying back putting his body on the line, yes they both kicked miraculous goals but they also both knew when to put their bodies on the line and take a bit for the team, gryan picks and chooses, you can't have that in a team, sorry it's a non-negoitable. He's got still value to trade use it now if we want ccameron

There's 2 requirements for a player to have trade value:
1 - the player has to actually be open to be traded
2 - the team trading for the player has to actually want the player

Please show where there's been any indication that Miers is open to a trade, AND that another team (in this case GWS) has actually enquired about his services

Hate to tell you but Miers isn't going anywhere and looks to have a long career in the hoops ahead of him

I agree with you in regards to his softness but he's as good as we have right now in a position that's behind a lot of other clubs. I'd prefer he stayed a lot closer to home mind you because he has an inate goal sense and a bit of class. I still have high hope for Taheny too but we're lacking in a pure small goal scorer so there's no chance he is traded. I guess the positives far outweigh the negatives in this situation.

Identifying talent is the easy part, knowing if they will cope with the lifestyle and attention and system within the club/AFL is the hard bit.

Then throw in physical development and injuries and it gets harder....
Very true but you can pick some you know will make it....And after the championships last year i picked SDK i think Colbert was the last kid i said would be very good

Agree he's got to stay closer to home - I know he's got a good tank & he's ability to get involved up the ground is probably appreciated, but it's probably appreciated even more by the opposition

I'd rather see him stay closer to goal, have less possessions but get his possessions in a more dangerous are, as that's when he'll be of most value

We can not pull out in getting Cameron as we already have Smith and we have Higgins lined up...Higgins and Smith would be a waste of time with out Cameron

Actually disagree, as Higgins is still a quality mid if need be. Can just go with what was probably our original contingency getting Brouch and playing Danger as a perma forward. Move Duncan to Higgins' position as the inside 50 deliverer, Higgins into the guts and Danger up forward. Bring in Rata or Kreuger and play them for a full year. Could even still pick up another quality mid if the Cameron deal goes pear-shaped - as we'll have a ton of collateral and cash. Could see Treloar liking a fresh start with us, having another crack at Brouch, Dunkley, or Fiorinini/Brodie from GC etc.

Would certainly make trade period much more fun if we just did all this instead!

People that want to pick on young Miers for being a bit chicken at times.....Give this kid time he is a smart footballer and in time he won't chicken out at all...go watch Joel Corey in first few years he pulled out. and have a look how hard he was in the end

No they wouldnt.

Exactly. For us Tom Stewart and Jack Henry come to mind. Get the opportunity and thrive.

I've always harped on about how soft he is, however, in the game against the Tigers, he tried his heart and laid a few tackles on much bigger players.

We needed miers working back to defence as his and menegola and blicavs running power helps cover our lack of pace in defence..smith is an excellent 2 way runner and can push back into that hole which should let us keep miers inside 50 more.

What, his youth football footage has been doctored?
I'm pretty sure I've seen him more than anyone on this board and I'm confident in that. His hands are anything but fumbly. Not sure what you've been watching. He is a deadset gun.

And every single player in the history of footy has fumbled at times. It's the game. This kid has clean hands.

He was good against Richmond I agree but he had a fair few moments in 2020 where he wasn't as hard as he needed to be. That's ok though he's still young and learning. He needs to stay close to goal for mine ... it's where he is at his best and most dangerous.

could I dare to add just a tad to 2.0 .... the team has to have expendable collateral to trade for the player. Lets say atm ..Id say WC would love to trade for Clark if he was interested in going back, they may have difficulty satisfying our demands. Much like Kelly in Y1 I guess.

Not sure why the questions on Miers?

I like sports movies. In Draft Day there is a quote from the Costner character about selecting a player despite his known negatives. Can you live with the negatives to benefit from the positives. There is no such thing as a perfect player. I can remember a well publised head duck from Josh Hunt but so what...anyone who has played has been under the ball with time time thing at some stage. Gees I found it hard enough to learn how to put contacts in without blinking ..let alone 100kegs of muscle about to steam roll you...

Miers can and will get better as he matures. He is still learning. My bet is he learned from the play on as well.
